Top Freshman (2005)
TIE 1. McCutchen, Andrew OF 5'11 160 Fort Meade, FL
McCutchen was a huge surprise for a player his age. He showed us 5 tool potential with plus athleticism. He ran a blazing 6.43 with low effort and swung possibly the fastest bat in the event. He showed us power, hitting ability and good base-running. In the field he glides to the ball, showed good smooth actions and threw with low 80's velocity with seemingly no effort. There is more in his arm and he is a Top Prospect in the '05 class. Kind of reminds us of a younger Lastings Milledge, who is the #1 ranked "03" in the country.
TIE 1. Mitchell, Ryan P/1B 6'4 215 Magnolia, TX
Mitchell is another '05 anomaly. He is equally as impressive and interesting a prospect as McCutchen. He has a very big solid body and amazing arm strength for a pitcher his age. He had a powerful arm stroke that comes from a high ¾ arm angle and threw in a good downward plane with consistent upper 80's velocity, topping out at 91 mph. And hitting 90 mph a dozen times. He also had a sharp curve and mixed it in well. Another of the very best identified prospects in the '05 class.
3. Gunn, Donald 3B 6'1 185 West Palm Beach, FL
Gunn was one of the top hitters in the event in any class. In fact, he has to be ranked one of the top hitting prospects in the country. He showed us power from a good, fast swing. We liked his approach at the plate and he showed good balance throughout his swing. He has quick hands and a late trigger. We saw playable 3B actions with a good arm and he even threw 80-83 mph on the hill with a good curve. He can really hit and many were for extra bases.
4. Cherry, William OF 5'10 162 Lakeland, FL
Cherry looked like a high school veteran on the diamond. He had a mature approach at the plate, showed a good swing and hit to all parts of the field with authority. His body is slim and strong and he projects real well. In the field he took good routes to the ball and showed some arm strength. His quick hands and hitting ability are advanced for a freshman and he ran the bases even better than his 6.84 time in the 60 indicates.
5. Cho, Ernie P 5'10 170 Hacienda Heights, CA
Cho is a small but super effective pitcher that showed us excellent stuff mentally and physically on the mound. He had a consistent 83-84 mph fastball with plus command and already has a plus change-up. His curve was a good one, but he had pin-point control of his fastball/change combo all day and chose to take advantage of it. He had a fast arm with both pitches and maintained a consistent release point out front of his body.
6. Keill, Shawn 1B/P 5'8 145 Largo, FL
Keill is a left handed first baseman with a good fluid swing from the left side of the plate. He showed a good arm and looked sharp defensively which made us think there is the possibility of him in the outfield as he grows and gets stronger. He showed good baseball actions all around and threw strikes on the mound.
7. Neer, Cody C/3B 6'2 184 Orlando, FL
Neer has a big strong body for his age and showed some hitting ability with strength and bat-speed to handle some of the faster pitchers in Ft Myers. He has good arm strength, popping a 2+ to second base and it projects to get better with age. He showed a genuine enthusiasm for the game.
8. Ortega, Mark SS/3B 6'2 170 Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Ortega is a projectable infielder with some good defensive actions now and potential to improve. He showed a decent arm from SS but on the mound we saw him use his body better and throw in the upper 70's. He has a tall, thin frame and should grow into it nicely and get stronger in every aspect of his game. He showed good hitting ability and proved he can swing it.
9. Arnett, Chase SS 5'10 150 Lakeland FL
Arnet is a young infielder with a lot of potential. He showed line drive hitting ability and still has mechanical areas to improve on at the plate. He also showed some infield instincts and a decent infield arm that was even stronger on the mound. He has a good lean frame to grow into and we expect that he will get a lot stronger.
10. Johnson, Charles P/OF 6'2 175 Smyrna Beach, FL
Johnson is a good young prospect that plays the game in a natural and controlled manner. He showed potential in several areas. On the mound, he threw an 80-81 mph fastball and 70 mph curve and change. His mechanics were good and he showed body control and command. He showed good outfield actions and hitting ability.
11. Jones, Darrell OF/P 6'1 155 Houston, TX
Jones is a good outfielder who can hit. He showed nice actions defensively, had a playable outfield arm that projects to get stronger and he runs well. He has a plus body and good frame to grow into. He showed good bat-speed and his athleticism coupled with his good baseball actions make him very projectable. He laid down a nice bunt and ran a 4.1 from the left side.
12. Morales, Matt P/OF 5'11 190 Winter Springs, FL
Morales is a commanding pitcher with more in him than what we saw. In his first game situation back from being injured, he showed 80-81 mph velocity, command of 2 pitches and nice sinking action on his fastball. He comes from ¾ and showed a strong lower half. His pitch count was low but he showed enough to prove that he has some serious ability on the mound.
13. Allen, Raymond IF 6'0 162 Longwood, FL
Allen is an athletic infielder that showed a good glove and some good hitting actions in Ft Myers. He has a good body and ran a 7.09 in the 60. In the field he was very good to his backhand side and projects to throw harder as his body gains strength. He showed good bat-speed and hit a few line drives using the middle of the field. He is another one of the young projectable players.
14. Railsback, Cody 2B/P 6'0 145 Rockwall, TX
Railsback is a tall, thin infielder with potential on the mound. He showed a good glove and a playable arm. On the mound he showed a long and loose delivery with a fastball that touched 80 mph, a soft but commanding curve and a good looking change-up in the low 70's. He has potential as he grows to gain strength and be a real good one.
15. Garcia, Kris 2B/OF 5'7 160 Miami, FL
Garcia is a sure-handed second baseman with solid fielding actions. He showed the ability to play both offensively and defensively with bigger and older players. He has enough arm strength to get the job done throwing 75 mph across the infield. At the plate he showed a short swing for his size that looked like a good adjustment to using wood. We saw him take an 89 mph fastball to the opposite field.

Top 2006 players
1. Saade, Gabriel SS 5'10 155 Miami, FL
Saade is very advanced for an 8th grader and showed us some of the top SS tools in the event, that was loaded with good infielders. He has a good baseball body and is very athletic. He's smooth defensively with good instincts and actions. At the plate, Saade was short to the ball, drove the ball hard and showed extremely quick hands. He projects well and can already play the game at a very high level.
2. Cardenas, Adrian SS/IF 5'10 150 Miami Lakes, FL
Cardenas is another top SS that showed ultra smooth actions in the field. He has good mobility and makes all the plays with natural fielding actions. He has a young and projectable body. He handled the wood very well. As a hitter he showed very quick hands. He does a lot of things good right now and as he grows and gets stronger he should improve in all areas. Both Saade and Cardenas are the REAL DEAL!
3. Miller, Aaron P/OF/1B 6'2 178 Channelview, TX
Miller is a smooth lefty with a good body for his age and lots of room to get stronger. He showed nice mechanics and his arm worked easy. He was throwing an 80-81 mph fastball and had a consistent 61-64 mph curve that he threw for strikes. He had a good approach and might be one of the top prospects in his class if he progresses the way we think he will.
4. Wirnsberger, A.J. C/3B/OF 6'0 160 Northport, AL
Wirnsberger is a solid, switch-hitting catcher with a good young projectable body to grow into. He showed us good hitting ability with a little better swing from the right side and some power potential. He has good receiving ability and a good arm for his age that will only get stronger. He popped a 2.2 and his ball had good carry to the bag.
5. Sapp, Max C/P/3B 6'0 205 Windermere, FL
Sapp is big and very strong for his age. He swung the bat well and hit the ball hard in Ft Myers. He had a lot of deep drives and showed nice hitting mechanics throughout the weekend event. His bat speed and his arm strength are his best tools. He showed good catch and throw ability with a 2.1 pop time and 75 mph velocity to 2B. He picked off 2 runners in the All-Star game!
6. Klein, Tyler C/3B/P 6'1 175 Conroe, TX
Klein is a big kid for his age and has potential to get stronger as a catcher. He showed good defensive ability and quick feet popping a 2+ to second base. His arm strength was better utilized on the mound where he showed 80 mph velocity and a potentially good curve. At the plate he showed some wood power potential and a good swing. He already has quick hands and we think he could be a good switch hitting catcher at the next level.
7. Watson, Ross 1B/OF/P 6'1 170 Woodlands, TX
Watson is another young player with a good projectable body. He showed good hitting ability with wood producing line drives from a level swing. He also showed a lot of potential on the mound with command of a lively fastball, curveball and change-up. His mechanics looked smooth and he threw lots of strikes.
