| Top 20 Sophomores (2004) |
| 1. Patton, Troy |
LHP/1B |
6'1 |
170 |
Magnolia,TX |
| Patton had some of the nastiest stuff on the mound in any age bracket. He is a good lefty with a lightening fast arm and showed 2 plus pitches. He had a high 80's fastball that topped out at 90 mph. It has plus life and comes from a low ¾ arm slot with a whip arm action. His slurve is also a plus pitch with a big break that we saw called for strikes to lefties jumping out of the box. He is one of the top 2004 prospects in the Nation. |
| 2. Hargrove, Ricky |
RHP/OF |
6'0 |
160 |
Katy, TX |
| Hargrove was another young pitcher with more than one plus pitch. He had an 86-88 mph fastball with excellent life, a plus slider that went untouched and a commanding change-up with plus life. He threw nothing straight and his slider was the best of all, topping out at 80 mph. His arm was loose and fast and he showed a good pick-off move on one of very few base runners. |
| 3. Macias, David |
SS |
5'8 |
149 |
Woodlands, TX |
| Macias was one of many outstanding shortstops in Ft Myers. He is a switch hitter who hit well from both sides of the plate and is very good defensively. He showed us a strong arm and had good quick actions. He ran a laser timed 6.94 in the 60 and was quick out of the box. He hit some of the best pitchers there. Every time we turned around he was on base again. |
| 4. Garcia, Chris |
C |
6'3 |
175 |
Miami, FL |
| Garcia is a switch-hitting catcher who showed good arm strength, a projectable body and hitting ability. He popped a 2.0 flat to 2B with soft hands and has a good exchange. He handled some of the toughest pitchers without difficulty. At the plate he had nice mechanics and quick hands. |
| 5. Lalor, John |
RHP |
6'6 |
195 |
Germantown, TN |
| Lalor is a big 6 foot 6 pitcher with a lean body that projects in all the right ways. He commanded a mid 80's fastball that had good life. His change-up was also a good one at 75 mph. He had the beginnings of a soft curve and all three pitches come out of his hand easy. We have seen him in the upper 80's before and we expect that he will develop into a high prospect like his brother (Conor) is now. |
| 6. Glass, John |
P/3B |
6'0 |
185 |
Clermont, FL |
| Glass had an impressive one-two punch on the mound in Ft Myers. We saw him throw a tough 84-86 mph fastball with plus life and a real good change-up. His arm is loose and works easy with a quick whip action. He had the makings of a curve and if he generated a tighter spin it would be a good one. |
| 7. Hanks, Parker |
C/OF |
6'1 |
200 |
Danville, CA |
| Hanks is a good size catcher for his age. He showed us some excellent hitting and catching ability to go along with it. We liked his swing and watched him hit some deep drives with good bat speed. He popped a 2.06 to 2B and has good catch and throw ability. He projects to get better both defensively and with his power. Keep an eye on this prospect. |
| 8. Mark, David |
P/SS |
6'0 |
165 |
Houston, TX |
| David Mark is a talented pitcher with some ability in the field in addition to the mound. We liked him especially as a pitcher. He showed an 84 mph fastball with life and flashed a cut fastball at times. He used a change-up sparingly but when he did, it was close to a plus pitch, with good movement and location. He ran a 6.94 in the 60 and displayed his speed and glove when he made a difficult catch on a foul ball, as a pitcher. 2-way prospect. |
| 9. Bignall, Drew |
P/1B |
6'0 |
183 |
Wayzata, MN |
| Bignall is a good looking player that showed us he has 2-way potential. He pitched well showing an 82-84 mph fastball with fairly good life, a good change-up and the makings of an effective 12-6 curve. In BP he hit some lasers and showed us some very good power. His swing was quick and he finished in a good, high position. |
| 10. Jordan, Daniel |
1B/3B |
6'1 |
180 |
Miami, FL |
| Jordan is listed as a primary first-baseman but we saw some nice defensive infield tools out of him at 3B to go along with a good bat, from both sides of the plate. He had soft hands and a good smooth arm action with 80 mph velocity across the diamond. He also moved well and had quick feet. He made a very good play running in and throwing across his body. |
| 11. Wynn, Tommy |
RHP |
6'3 |
180 |
Ft. Lauderdale, FL |
| Wynn is a big right-hander with a loose arm action. He showed 83-85 mph velocity on his fastball and a tight curve. He showed good leverage with a high ¾ arm slot and we even saw a grip slider with some downward action. He has the ability to spin the ball fast and his curve has potential to be a plus pitch. |
| 12. Todd, Jesse |
SS/P |
6'0 |
200 |
Kilgore, TX |
| J. Todd is a strong player with an athletic-muscular body. He showed good infield actions and a strong arm at 84 mph from the hole. We liked him even more on the mound. He maintained 85-87 mph velocity with a sharp slider and sinking change-up. He lands on a firm front side and has a quick powerful delivery. |
| 13. Hollander, Michael |
SS |
5'11 |
180 |
New Orleans, LA |
| Hollander was a hitting machine in Ft Myers. He has a compact, fast-twitch body and demonstrated excellent bat-speed at the plate. He is short to the ball, has fast hands and showed middle-of-the-field power. He ran the bases well and played aggressively in the field. He has the right mentality and intensity to succeed in this game. |
| 14. Juhl, Brian |
C |
6'1 |
190 |
Katy, TX |
| Juhl is another of the big, strong catchers in Ft Myers. He showed enough arm strength to pop under 2.0 to 2B. At the plate, he made consistent contact and we saw him sit back on off-speed pitches and drive them. He also has some power potential showing a good overall swing. |
| 15. Oye, Matt |
OF/P |
6'4 |
191 |
Spokane, WA |
| Oye has a big body with good baseball instincts and hitting ability. His most impressive aspect is his power potential at the plate. He showed a lot of power with a slight uppercut swing. His foot-speed might eventually make him a corner infielder. On the mound he was also impressive throwing an 84 mph fastball and the makings of a plus change-up. |
| 16. Bishop, Drew |
RHP |
5'11 |
175 |
Rockwall, TX |
| Bishop is a good 2-pitch hurler. He threw a consistent 86 mph fastball that topped out as high as 88. The fastball showed a natural cutting action that ran from right handed batters. His curveball was tight and commanding 12-6. He showed signs of sink with a change-up but could not find the plate with it. If he learns where to release that pitch, he will have 3 good ones. |
| 17. McGonigle, Mark |
OF/P |
6'0 |
165 |
Houston, TX |
| McGonigle is a projectable outfielder with a good lean build and lots of hitting ability. He makes contact with a line drive swing from both sides of the plate. He showed gap power to all fields and ran the bases well. His outfield actions are smooth and he already has a playable outfield arm. As he gains strength we should start seeing results from all that potential he has. |
| 18. Spiers, Joe |
SS/2B |
5'10 |
175 |
Temecula, CA |
| Spiers has several tools that make him stand out. He showed excellent infield actions with quick feet, good lateral agility, fast hands and body control. He ran a 6.67 in the 60 and swung the bat with some force. He lacks only arm strength to play SS at the next level and played at a high intensity level for 3 days. |
| 19. Sisk, Brian |
P/OF |
5'11 |
180 |
Henderson, TX |
| Sisk is an athletic player with a future on the mound. Although he showed 6.98 speed and hitting ability as an outfielder, he was even better on the hill. He showed an 84-86 mph fastball with an easy working left-handed arm. His best pitch was a plus curve that he threw around 77-78 mph. It came out of his hand fast and has a big league bite. His command of that pitch was excellent. |
| 20. Sink, C. Alex |
IF |
5'9 |
160 |
Jamestown, NC |
| Sink has a good infielders package. He showed quick actions defensively with good mobility getting to his backhand side. He can spin a double play and has enough arm. As a hitter he showed a good looking swing and his ball jumped to the gaps quickly. He ran the bases well translating his 6.71 speed in the 60 accordingly. |
