Midwest Top Prospect/Underclass Showcase

 



Maroon vs. Crimson  >>
The Maroon bats continued to impress in the final game of the Midwest Underclass Showcase.

2012 C Jacob Henson(St. Peters, MO, Francis Howell Central HS) continued to standout as he wrapped up a great showcase for him by going 2-2 with 2 doubles. He needs to be watched very closely.

2012 Cody Prantner (Hampton, IA, Hampton Dumont HS) had a very hot bat at the plate today finishing a perfect 4-4 after going 2-2 in his first game of the day, he went 2-2 in the final game with a double.


2012  Adam Recksiedler (Coon Rapids, MN, Blaine HS) continued his hot hitting with a double in this game.

2012 Caleb Wilkerson (Festus, MO, Festus HS) showed well with the bat at this showcase and had a double in his final game.

2012 Michael Caraway (Walker, IA, Center Point Urbana HS) went 2-2 for the Crimson team.
Maroon vs. Gold >>
2012  Adam Recksiedler (Coon Rapids, MN, Blaine HS) is a very interesting, projectable left handed hitter. He showed good pop and went 2-2 with a double in the game.

2013 Tyler Votroubek (Ely,IA, Prairie HS) showed a nice approach and smoked a double in the game.

2012 Jake Henson (St. Peters, MO, Francis Howell Central HS) is an outstanding defensive catcher and showed good hitting ability as well as he laced a double in the game.

2012 Cody Prantner (Hampton, IA, Hampton Dumont HS) made solid contact going 2-2 in the game.

2012 RHP Bobby Boynton (Decatur, IL, St. Theresa HS) showed a loose arm action and was up to 84 mph.
Crimson vs. Green Highlights  >>
2012 Dakota Miller (Cedar Rapids, IA, Kennedy HS) showed good arm speed with his fastball reaching 87 mph today and complimented it with a tight breaking ball.

2012 Nick Weeks (Andover, MN, Andover HS)showed a quick bat smoking a double to the gap in the game.

2012 MIchael Collins (Ottumwa, IA, Ottumwa HS) showed good pop ripping a double off the left field wall.

2012 Alex Crowl (Council Bluffs, IA, Abraham Lincoln HS) showed a nice approach also ripping a double in the game.

2014 Keaton McKinney (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) impressed with the bat in an earlier game and stepped up on the mound and looked very projectable with his fastball already topping out at 84 mph.

2012 Ryan Forne (Omaha, NE, Millard West HS) and Chad Nelson (Edmond, OK, Heritage HS) each collected their second hit of the day in the game.
Navy vs. White >>
Several pitchers had nice outings during the final Midwest Top Prospect Showcase game at Kirkwood Community College.

RHP Joe Goodman (2011 Gilbert HS, Iowa) touched 85 mph and sat between 82-84 through three innings. He struck out five of nine batters faced and attacked hitters well, working quickly and mixed in his 76-mph curve and 76-mph change-up for strikes.

RHP Dustin Spaw (2011 Prairie HS, Iowa) topped out at 84 and sat between 80-83. Spaw allowed no hits and struck out two through three innings, showing good leg drive, solid arm speed, and aggressiveness on the mound.

RHP David Yancey (2011 Kennedy HS, Iowa) also hit 84 during his three innings of work. Yancey has a loose arm, an online, repeatable delivery, and a 75-mph slider with solid spin.

RHP Choctaw Taylor (2011 Proviso West HS, Ill.) sat between 80-84. He worked downhill well at times and showed nice arm strength.

Meanwhile, OF/IF Anthony Gagliardi (2011 Prairie HS, Iowa) went 2-for-3 with a single and a triple. He has good bat speed, an athletic swing, and solid physical tools.

MIF Brett Carlson (2011 Riley HS, Ind.) went 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI sigle, and a stolen base, showing good reactions in the box, as well as a polished, balanced swing and solid defensive actions at shortstop.

OF/3B Kyle Richardson (2012 Maine South HS, Ill._ went 3-for-4 with three singles. Richardson has quick hands and waits on off-speed pitches well.
Day 2 BP Highlights >>
The Columbia Blue and Crimson teams hit BP on Day 2. These are the guys that stood out the most.

Thomas Kinsella (North Branch, MN, North Branch HS) took a nice BP making good barrel contact.

Sam Kortes (Prior Lake, MN, Prior Lake HS) showed good hitting hands and is a bat to watch.

Mike Hadden (Prior Lake, MN, Prior Lake HS) showed good hitting tools and ball comes off his bat well.

Josh Crosby (Iowa City, IA, City HS) took a good batting practice with the ball jumping off his bat showing good power potential.

Columbia Blue vs. Gold Highlights >>
2012 C/RHP Jonah Lakatos (Grand Rapids, MI, Forest Hills Central HS) smoked a triple to right field showing good strength in his swing and also threw two quick innings on the mound with his fastball topping at 83 mph.

2012 SS Tyler Wolfe (Maple Plain, MN, Delano HS) show good actions in the infield.

2012 RHP Mike Hadden (Prior Lake, MN, Prior Lake HS) was up to 85 mph on the mound today after throwing 89 mph from the outfield in the workout yesterday.
Columbia Blue vs. Green >>
2014 Keaton McKinney (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) continued to impress with the bat lacing a hard hit single. He will need to be watched closely over the next four years.

2012 Brian Read (Independence, MO, Truman HS) has had multiple hits and has shown good in game hitting ability.

2012 Austin Wulff (Omaha, NE, Millard West HS) had a hit in the game and showed a nice accurate arm from right field.

Texas Orange vs. Royal >>
OF/1B Ricky Alfonso (2011 Barrington HS, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with a triple and a single Sunday morning during the first Midwest Top Prospect Showcase game at Kirkwood Community College. Alfonso is a good hitter who made solid contact and proved to be a tough out.

Meanwhile, RHP Dakota Freese (2011 Washington HS, Iowa) pitched three outstanding innings, striking out seven and allowing only a one-out triple to Alfonso, who ripped an inside fastball to right field. Freese topped out at 88 mph and sat between 85-87. He threw downhill, and showed command of all three of his pitches — including a 74-mph curve and 80-mph change-up.

C Justin Gonzalez (2011 Nazareth Academy, Ill.) impressed on defense. He showed a quick transfer, quick feet, a good arm, and framed nicely. Gonzalez also boasts a nice catcher's body at 5-11, 190 pounds and is a solid overall player.

MIF Ben Guilfoyle (2o11 Plainfield East HS, Ill.) only went 1-for-2 with a single but displayed good leg strength, good hands, and solid offensive abilities. He has a good swing and shifts his weight well in the box.

C/1B Jack Goihl (2011 Armstrong HS, Minn.) went 2-for-3 with a RBI single and a double, showing some bat speed, hard contact, and an ability to hit to the opposite field.

OF/1B Bailey Hollingsworth (2011 Jefferson HS, Iowa) went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. He has great body strength and boasts a 6-3, 105-pound frame.

IF/OF Michael William (2011 Armstrong HS, Minn.) went 2-for-4 with a RBI single and a RBI double, hitting a hard line drive over shortstop and scorching another hit to center field.

SS Brandon Gignac (2011 St. Thomas of Villanova HS, Ontario) went 2-for-3 with a singe and a RBI double, showing a level swing and some bat control as well.

SS Trevor Jaunich (2011 Delano HS, Minn.) went 2-for-3 with two singles — one for a RBI. Jaunich is a solid right-handed hitter who possesses good bat speed and a hard swing.

OF Alec Mitchell (2011 Westminster Christian Academy, Mo.) went 2-for-3 with two singles as well, hitting two line drives — one to right field and one to left. He is a heads up runner on the base paths as well.
Maroon vs. Green >>
2012 Cameron Engberg (Mt. Pleasant, IA HS) had a clean and quick arm action and worked his fastball between 83-85 mph. He also showed the potential for a nice change up as well.

2012 David Stevens (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) had a loose arm and his fastball topped out at 84 mph.

2012 Caleb Wilkerson (Festus, MO, Festus HS) continued an impressive day going 2-2 with two runs scored.

2012 Chad Nelson (Edmond, OK, Heritage HS) arm worked well and his fastball was up to 84 mph.

White vs. Texas Orange (Top Prospect) >>
2011 LHP Andrew Hedrick (Polk City, IA, Ankeny HS) was lights out pitching three hitless innings with 7 punchouts. He has a very loose arm and pitched 86-88 mph with more to come. He also compliments his fastball well with good offspeed offerings.

2011 LHP Will Kenny (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge HS) showed a fast arm and was up to 85 mph.

2011 SS/RHP Trevor Jaunich (Delano, MN, Delano HS) is a very interesting two way prospect showing good pop with the bat and showed an easy arm action on the mound with a 86 mph fastball that projects well.

2011 OF Nick Boehnlein (Cedarburg, WI HS) doubled for the Texas Orange team.

2011 RHP Brad Chelleen (Urbandale, IA, Dowling HS) is a very projectable 6'7 RHP who is already throwing 86 mph with good run. He needs to be watched closely.

2011 LHP Braden Shull (Mt. Pleasant, IA HS) has big projectable frame and pitched 83-86 mph.

2011 LHP Adam Poehlmann (Fort Collins, CO HS) was dominant in three innings of work not allowing a hit and striking out 7 batters. His fastball was 80-82 mph and he had a sharp breaking ball and mixed his pitches well.

2011 Anthony Gagliardi (Cedar Rapids, IA, Prairie HS) and 2011 Austin Fischer (Ankeny, IA HS) closed things out for the White team with fastballs up to 84mph and 83 mph.

2011 MIF Brett Carlson (South Bend, IN, Riley HS) showed very good range in the infield with good footwork and hands. He also hit well in the game and needs to be watched closely.

2011 MIF Spencer Mallonee (Davenport, IA, Assumption HS) continued to impress in the game after a strong workout this morning. He showed a quick bat and good speed as he laced a triple to the gap.

2011 C Raymond McLagan (Columbia, MO, Christian Fellowship HS) had an outstanding day at the plate showing a quick bat and going 2-2 with two doubles.

2011 OF Zach Powell (Reeds, MO, Cathage HS) also doubled for the White team.
Gold vs. Crimson >>
RHP Tyler Wolfe (2012 Delano HS, Minn.) touched 85 mph and sat between 81-84 through one inning of work Saturday afternoon at Kirkwood Community College. Wolfe (5-10, 165 pounds) showed a clean delivery with medium effort an some arm-side run on his 2-seam fastball. He also flashed a 65-mph curve with nice spin and break.

OF Taylor Oltmann (2013 Kennedy HS, Iowa) and 1B/OF Brent Strong (2012 Andover HS, Minn.) both doubled. Oltman went 1-for-2 in the five-inning contest, while Strong went 1-for-1.
Navy vs. Royal Highlights (Top Prospect) >>
2012 RHP Mitchell Brown(Rochester, MN, Century HS) was very impressive for the Royal team. His arm works very well and his fastball was up to 89 mph. He also showed a nice curveball and change up to complete his three pitch arsenal.

2011 LHP David Stagg (west Des Moines, IA, Valley HS) can really pitch. He mixes his pitches well and dominated hitters in his three innings of work allowing only one hit and striking out 5. His fastball was up to 83 mph.

2011 RHP Brad Lombard (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge HS) was also very good striking out 5 hitters in the 3 innings of work while allowing only 2 hits. His fastball was up to 87 mph and he also mixed in a solid breaking ball.

2011 LHP Austin Christensen (Cedar Rapids, IA, Kennedy HS) closed things out for the the Royal team as the big LHP attacked hitters with a fastball that was up to 85 mph.

2011 OF Ricky Alfonso (North Barrington, IL, Barrington HS) impressed with the bat going 2-3 with a double.

2011 C Justin Gonzalez (Cicero, IL, Nazareth Academy) has looked good today and made hard game contact including one that registered 93 mph off the bat.

2011 RHP Ethan Appleby (Shawnee, KS, Mill Valley HS) started for the Navy team and looked very good throwing 3 hitless innings with 3 strikeouts. His fastball was up to 86 mph.

2011 RHP Ryan Rumpf (North Liberty, IA, West HS) impressed with a fastball that was 86-88 mph. He has a loose arm and the ball comes out of his hand well. He also showed good off speed offerings and was very interesting.

Rumpf and Appleby looked good with the bat as well as Rumpf went 2-2 while Appleby doubled. Andrew Holden (Shell Rock, IA, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) also doubled.  
Maroon vs. Columbia Blue >>
C Jacob Tegeler (2012 Morrison HS, Ill.) went 2-for-2 with a single, a double, and two runs score Saturday afternoon during the third round of Midwest Underclass games at Kirkwood Community College. Tegeler is a good right-handed hitter who shows hard contact, a balanced swing with a good load, and good extension.

OF Mason Raburn (2012 Ceighton Prep, Neb.) went 2-for-2 with a single and a triple, showing fast, strong hands, bat speed, and a pull approach in the box. Raburn is also controlled at the plate and hit the ball hard.

1B/3B Nicholas Bird (2012 home schooled, Mo.) went 1-for-2 with a nice 2-RBI double. Bird hit a solid line drive to left field.

OF/1B Tyler Votroubek (2013 Prairie HS, Iowa) only got one at-bat, but made it count, hitting a double that registered 90 mph off the bat. He showed nice pop with good extension and finish for his age.

On the mound, RHO Cory Ott (2012 Kettle Moraine HS, Wis.) topped out at 84 mph and sat between 80-83 in one inning of work, showinga short, quick arm circle, some arm-side run, and arm strength.
Day 1 BP Highlights >>

Austin Wulff (Omaha, NE, Millard West HS) showed a nice swing with good pop. He has bat speed and is a 2012 to watch.

 

Adam Recksiedler (Coon Rapids, MN, Blaine HS) is a big strong left handed hitter that projects very well. Smooth swing and the ball comes off his bat well

 

Tyler Votroubek (Ely, IA, Prairie HS)  is an interesting 2013 bat to watch. Big strong player and ball comes off his bat hard.

 

Keaton McKinney (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) is a big strong 2014 hitter that projects to hit for power.

 

Ryan Rumpf (North Liberty, IA, West HS) took a nice bp with the ball jumping off his bat to all fields.

 

Ethan Appleby (Shawnee, KS, Mill Valley HS) showed good power driving the ball over the fence. Good strength and bat speed.

 

Mitchell Brown (Rochester, MN, Century HS) has a nice swing and squares the ball up well.

 

Tanner Lubach (Lincoln, NE, Southwest HS) showed a nice fluid swing with good pop and squared the ball up well.

 

Austin Christensen (Cedar Rapids, IA, Kennedy HS) is a big left-handed hitter who is coming along well with added strength and needs to be watched closely.

 

Trevor Jaunich (Delano, MN, Delano HS) showed good pop to all fields including hitting one off the foul pole.

 

Brett Carlson (South Bend, IN, Riley HS) showed nice bat speed and good all around hitting tools.

 

Anthony Gagliardi (Cedar Rapids, IA, Prairie HS) showed good bat speed and power driving the ball over the fence.

Green vs. Gold >>
RHP Brian Read (2012 Truman HS, Mo.) touched 86 mph and sat between 82-85 during his two innings on the mound at the Midwest Underclass Showcase. Read struck out two and showed good rhythm, nice arm speed, and plenty of arm strength. He also flashed a 66-mph curve.

MIF Ari Harris (2012 Lane Tech, Ill.) went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles — a solid hit to left field and a line drive to center. Harris had good hands and a balance stance in the box.

3B/OF Mitchell Bauer (2012 Maple Grove HS, Minn.) went 1-for-2 with a first-inning, lead-off triple, hitting a curve over the left fielder's head and showing he can adjust during his swing.

OF/C Austin Wulff (2-12 Millward Wes HS, Neb.) also tripled — hitting his to center field. Wulff showed some bat speed, strong hands, a strong core, and great offensive abilities.

OF Marcus Barone (2012 Benilde-St. Margaret's HS, Minn.) wen 2-for-2 with two singles and a stolen base. Barone showed a good, quiet setup, a good swing, and nice contact. Both of his hits were hard line drives to the outfield.

RHP Dakota Miller (2012 Kennedy HS, Iowa) topped out at 86 mph Saturday morning during the first round of games at Kirkwood Community College during the Midwest Underclass Showcase. Miller pitched one inning and struck out three, showing a balanced, low-effort delivery, an upright release, and sound mechanics. He also showed a 76-mph slider with some tilt — a solid "out" pitch — and a a nice straight, 67-mph change-up.

SS/3B Thomas Kinsella (2012 North Branch HS, Minn.) went 2-for-2 with a RBI single and a RBI-triple deep to the left-center field gap in the five-inning contest. Kinsella (6-0, 160 pounds) has a rotational swing and creates some nice bat speed.

3B/C Nathan Strong (2012 Andover HS, Minn.) also went 2-for-2, hitting a 2-RBI double and a single. Strong (6-1, 175 pounds) flashed hard contact, as well as good leverage, nice bat speed, good extension, and wrist strength at the plate.
