The Dallas Yankees defeated Marucci's Elite by a score of 11-3 in 6 innings to claim the 16U BCS National Championship. The Yankees got a strong start from Billy Waltrip (2010, Ft. Gibson HS, OK) and scored 5 runs in the 4th inning on thier way to the win.

Waltrip worked all 6 innings for the Yankees and gave up one earned run while scattering 5 hits. He also added 6 strikeouts and issued 3 walks. Tournament MVP Matt Dean (2011, The Colony HS, TX) led the way for the Yankees going 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI's, and a run scored.

Marucci's jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Jacob Knox (2011, Catholic HS, LA) doubled in two runs with two outs. But, the Yankees would quickly answer in the bottom of the frame when Mark McCants (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX) grounded out to first base to plate the run. Two batters later Sklyer Ewing (2011, Arlington HS, TX) lined a single into right to tie the score at 2-2.

The Yankees would pull away in the bottom of the 4th inning when they rallied to score five runs. Dean would plate two runs with single, followed by a bases loaded walk by Michael Gill (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX). Dean would strike again in the bottom of the 5th to seal the deal for Dallas when he doubled in two runs, making the score 9-3. The Yankees would tack on a couple more to win by a score of 11-3 in 6 innings.

The Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament was Michael Gill. Gill got two wins today as he worked both the 2nd round and semifinal games that led the Yankees to the championship. For the tournament, Gill went 3-0 as he worked 13 2/3 innings and gave up just one earned run and 6 hits. He also added 17 strikeouts while walking just two batters.

The MVP of the tournament was Matt Dean who capped a stellar tournament by going 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI's, a walk, and a run scored.

Marucci's Elite took the early 2-0 lead thanks to a two out, two RBI double from Jacob Knox (2011, Catholic HS, Fla). But in the bottom of the frame, the Yankees battled back to tie the score thanks in part to the a defensive mistake. The Yankees put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs because of a throwing error before Mark McCants (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX) hit an RBI ground out to the first baseman to cut the lead to 2-1. Then, Skyler Ewing (2011, Arlington HS, TX) roped a single to right field to tie the score.

The Marucci's Elite defeated the Palm Beach PAL by a score of 9-6 to set up a date with the Dallas Yankees in the 15U BCS Finals. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in the stadium at Terry Park. The Yankees defeat the Columbia Angels White by a score of 10-2 to advance to the finals.

Michael Gill (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX) pitched another 5 inning complete game as the Dallas Yankees Knocked off the Columbia Angels White by a score of 10-2. Gill worked all 5 innings for the second time today and gave up just one earned run on only 2 hits. He also added 6 strikeouts and and didn't walk anyone. He topped out at 89 mph on his fastball while keeping it in the mid 80's.

Matthew Dean (2011, The Colony HS, TX) led the way at the plate for the Yankees going 1-for-2 with a double, walk, 3 RBI's, and 2 runs scored.

Aaron Nola (2011, Catholic HS, LA) pitched a complete game 2 hitter as Marucci's Elite knocked off FTB Bat Clap by a score of 5-1 to advance to the semifinals. Nola went all 7 innings and only allowed one run on 2 hits. He struckout 10 batters and didn't walk a batter. He's got a low 3/4 delivery and get's movement on about all his pitches. He topped at 88 mph on his fastball that consistanly ran in the mid 80's. He's got a pretty effortless delivery and the ball comes out of his hand smooth and easy. He's fastball curveball combo is above average.

The Angels White scored 4 runs in the 6th inning as they defeated the Angels Red by a score of 6-1. White recored 4 hits and saw six batters reach base during the game changing rally. White got a strong pitching performance from Andrew Godail (2011, The Woodlands HS, TX) who went all 7 innings and gave up just one unearned run on 4 hits. He also added 8 strikeouts and didn't walk anyone. He threw in the mid 80's while getting good arm side run on his pitches. He also attacks the hitters and showcases great control.

The Dallas Yankees rode a strong pitching performance from Michael Gill (2011, Flower Mound HS, TX) to an 8-0 win over Cyclones Baseball and a birth into the semifinals. Gill went all 5 innings and didn't allow a run as he gave up just 3 hits and 2 walks, while adding 6 strikeouts. He pitched in the mid to high 80's and topped out at 88 mph. Gill has a live arm to go along with plus command. He's minimal effort and has a great attitude and mound presence.

Andrew Istler (2011, Wellington HS, Fla) out dueled Taylor Layner (2011, Osceola HS, Fla) as the Palm Beach PAL pulled the 1-0 upset of the top seeded West Florida Shockers. Istler pitched 5 shutout innings as he struckout 6, walked 3, and scattered 4 hits. He pitched his fastball in the mid 80's and added a curve at 69-72 mph and a change at 75-76 mph. He's a slender, athletic guy with quick feet. His curve is sharp and his fastball has some late movement.

Layner took the hard luck lose of the Shockers going 5 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run as he gave up just 2 hits while adding 9 k's. He pitched in the mid 80's and topped at 87 mph. Layner's got a solid lower half and his fastball has a lot of life.

PAL scored the lone run of the game as Richard Perez (2011, Douglas HS, Fla) reached base on an error, got to 3rd on a stolen base, and scored on a pass ball.

The Columbia Angels got a strong pitching performance from Jordan Stephens and Michael Davis had a strong outing at the plate as the Angels defeated the All American Prospects by a score of 4-3 to move on to tomorrow mornings 2nd round. Davis went 3-for-4 with 3 doubles and 2 runs scored as he showed speed and the ability to hit to all fields. Stephens looked strong on the mound as he worked 4 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 5 hits. He worked in the low to mid 80's on his fastball while topping out at 88 mph.

South Florida Elite Squad's Nick Travieso (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla) lite up the radar guns this evening as his fastball was clocked at 96 mph. He only featured a fastball as he threw just a 1/3 of an inning in a losing effort for the Elite Squad as they fell to Marucci's Elite by a score of 8-7. This isn't a suprise for Travieso as he also impressed 2 weeks ago in the 15U tournament throwing in the 90's.

The #12 FTB Clap Bat pulled the first upset of the tournament as the knock off the #12 seed SE Texas Sun Devils by a score of 11-3. Clap rode a 5 run 4th inning and built an 8-3 lead heading to the 5th inning. Bat Clap will face Marucci's Elite tommorrow morning in the 2nd round of the playoffs. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. Kenny Diaz (2011, Puerto Rico Baseball Academy, Fla) paced Clap Bat by going 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI's and a run scored.

The #3 Columiba Angels Red knocked off the #14 seeded Georgia Chiefs by a score of 9-1 to advance to tomorrow 2nd round. The Angels were led by Cody Glenn (2011, Westbury Christian HS, TX) who went 1-for-3 with a triple, 3 RBI's and a run scored. The Angels also got a strong pitching performance from Brock Hartson (2011, Pearland HS, TX) who went all 5 innings and allowed only one run on 6 hits. He pitched in the low 80's and was able to locate well, as he also mixed in a curve and a change. The Angels face the winner of the All American Prospects and the Angels White game tommorow morning at 9 a.m.

After a 2 hour rain delay and a change of fields, the Georgia Chiefs defeated Cyclones Baseball by a score of 6-2. The Chiefs led 4-2 before the delay and plated 2 more after the break. The Cyclones had their chances, with a bases loaded and nobody out situation but were unable to capitalize. Alex Ridge (2011, Ridgeland HS, GA) got the win going 4 innings and allowed just 2 unearned runs on 4 hits. He also added 3 strikeouts and didn't allows a walk. Ridge pitched in the mid 80's while topping at 87 mph. He also featured a curve and slider in the mid 70's.

The SE Texas Sun Devils defeated the Columbia Cobras by a score of 10-5. The win earns them a #5 seed in the playoffs and date with the #12 FTB Bat Clap. Catcher Stryker Trahan (2012, Acadiana HS, Fla) led the way for the Sun Devils going 1-for-1 with a double, 2 RBI's, a run scored, walk, and steal. The game went final after 5 innings due to time limit. The game was tied heading to the 5th inning before the Sun Devils rallied for 5 runs.

Trahan has looked good behind the plate as well this week as he's shown an above average throwing arm and has quick mechanics getting the ball to 2nd base. He's also projectable with his size at 6'0" and 195 pounds.

Alex Santana (2012, Mariner HS, Fla) hit a 2-run home run in the top of the 7th inning to give SWFL a 10-9 lead. SWFL would add another and win by a score of 11-9. Santana, who played with the 18U SWFL team last week, went 3-for-4 with two singles, a home run, 4 RBI's, and 3 runs scored.

After building a 8-2 lead after 4 innings, SWFL saw there lead disappear as the Angels came storming back with 6 runs in the 5th and another in the 6th to take a 9-8 lead. But with a runner on 1st base and nobody out, Santana sent a fastball over the leftfield fence to put SWFL out and front for good. Santana is a big kid, with good range at 3rd base with a quick, smooth swing.

The St. Louis Pirates hit 3 home runs on their way to a 10-4 win over the Orlando Scorpions. Garrett Schlecht (2011, Belleville West HS, IL) hit a 3-run home run, while Dalton Bray (2011, Lutheran South HS, MO) and Ryan Simmons (2011, Oakville HS, MO) had solo homers.

The Columbia Angels knocked off the The All Ameican Propsects by a score of 9-1. The Angels powered their way to the victory as Blake Goodwine (2011, Fort Bend Baptist HS, TX) went 3-for-3 two singles, a double, 3 RBI's, and two runs scored.

Michael Bonner (2011 Fort Bend Baptist HS, TX) look strong in his outing for the Angels, going 4 2/3 innings and gave up just 1 run on 3 hits, while adding 5 k's and 2 walks. He worked his fastball in the mid 80's while topping at 87 mph. Bonner is effotless and hits his spots. He's got good movement on his pitches while keeping hitters off balance.

The Apopka Black Sox rode a 6 run 1st inning to a 10-2 win over the Palm Beach Select. Brandon Bonilla (2010, Lake Weir HS, Fla) led the way for the Black Sox going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBI's. Bonilla put the game out of reach with his 3-run homer in the top of the 2nd inning.

The Sox also got solid pitching performances from Nicholas Molina (2011, Sarasota HS, Fla) and Galvin Gallardo (2010, Freedom HS, Fla). Molina worked 3 innings and gave up just 2 runs on 2 hits. He also added 2 strikeouts as he worked his fastball in the mid 80's while topping out at 88 mph. He also mixes in a change at 74 mph while getting good run on his 2-seam fastball. Gallardo worked 3 shutout innings and didn't allow a hit. The lefty struckout 5 while working his fastball at 81-82 mph and a plus curve at 75 mph.

The Cape Coral Cannons defeated Marucci's Elite by a score of 10-2. The game went final in 5 innings and took about an hour and 20 minutes to complete. Brian Mackin (2011, Ft. Myers HS, Fla) led the way for the Cannons going 2-for-2 with a couple of singles, 2 RBI's and a run scored.

Branden Guiterezz (2012, IDA Baker HS, Fla) went all 5 innings for the Cannons and he allowed only 2 run on 2 hits while striking out one batter. He only pitched in the 70 mph range but had good location and mixed up his pitches well.

Andres Sanchez (2012, Belen Jesuit HS, Fla) pitched a complete game as the Miami Wolverines defeated the So Cal Elite by a score of 10-2. Danny De la Calle (2011, Broddock HS, Fla) led the way for the Heat going 2-for-3 with a double, single, three RBI's, and a run scored. Sanchez pitched 6 IP, gave up 6 hits and struckout 5 and walked 1.

Caleb Kellogg (2010, Bridge City HS, TX) pitched a complete game as the SE Texas Sun Devils defeated the Dulins Dodgers by a score of 7-1. Kellogg only allowed only one hit, while giving up just an unearned run. He struckout 12 and walked just one, as his fastball was clocked as high as 88 mph. He's got good arm speed and compact mechanics. He's confident in his approach and has a competitive presence.

Ryan Leffel (2011, Dublin Coffman HS, OH) went 3-for-4 with three doubles three RBI's as the Columbus Cobras defeated the All American Prospects by a score of 5-3. Leffel has a quick bat, good power, and likes to use all fields as all three of his hits went to left center, dead center, and down the rightfield line. Trevor Burch (2011, Dublin Jerome HS, OH) went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

The St. Louis Pirates scored 4 runs in the 1st and 3 more in the 2nd as they knocked off the New England Ruffnecks by a score of 8-4. The 1st inning rally was capped by a 2 run double by Tyler Detmer (2011, Breese Mater HS, IL). Along with the double, Demter walked and scored twice. Khalfani Mar'Na (2011, Lafayette HS, MO) went 2-for-3 with a single, double, and two runs scored.

James Davis (2011, Mt. Dora HS, Fla) pitched a complete game as the Orlando Scorpions Gray defeated the Cape Coral Cannons by a score of 7-1. Davis went all 7 innings, gave up just 1 run on 3 hits, and struckout 5 batters. He worked his fastball at around 80 mph, while topping out at 82 mph and mixing in a slider at 68. He's tall and muscular with a 3/4 delivery and mixes up his pitches well.

Ricky Welch (2012, Wekiva HS, Fla) went 3-for-3 with three singles and three runs scored.

Mason Robbins (2011, Geourge County, MS) led the way for Marucci's going 1-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI's, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Alex Guitreau (2011, Catholic HS, LA)was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Taylor Veillon and Austin Geer combined to shut down the Elite Squad. They only allowed 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5.

The Florida Poker and the Diamond Devils rounded out Thursday's play with a trilling 5-5 tie. The Pokers got the tying run across in the last inning, but left the bases loaded and the winning run on third as the game came to a 5-5 draw. Chucky Vasquez led the way for the Pokers going 3-for-3 with a single, triple and a home run while adding 2 RBI's.

The Miami Wolverines were all over the Georgia Chiefs by a score of 17-2. Miami put the game out of reach with 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Sheehan Planas-Artega (2011, Belen Jesuit HS, Fla) led the way for the Wolverines going 2-for-3 with 4 RBI's, two singles, and 2 runs scored.

The All American Prospects combined to no-hit the Mizuno Braves as the Prospects rolled to a 4-0 win. Jean Acevedo, Rand Boza and Randy Lopez teamed up to keep the Braves hitless. They also combined for 7 strikeouts over the 7 innings of work.

SWFL added 3 runs in the final frame but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Florida Pokers by a score of 9-8. Jordan Suarez (2011, Somerset Academy, Fla) powered the Pokers going 2-for-2 with a single, double, and 2 RBI's. SWFL had come within a run in the last inning by scoring 3 runs, but with the tying run on first base with one out, Austin Lewis (2012, St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Fla) came in and ended the SWFL rally by retiring the next 2 hitters.

Tim Holmes (2012, Woflson HS, Fla) pitched a complete game and gave up just 4 earned runs as FTB defeated the Diamond Devils by a score of 7-6. Holmes worked all 6 innings, scattering 9 hits while striking out 2 and walking one. The Devils scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning, Copper Lemonds (2011, Savannah Christian HS, GA) scored the go ahead run in the 6th inning after he singled and later scored on a Kilaman Oameal base hit.

The Florida Mustangs scored 6 runs in the 1st inning on their way to an 8-2 win over the Upstate Mavericks. The big rally was capped by back-to-back-to back RBI doubles from Kyle McDorman (2011, Nieceville HS, Fla), Brandon Horn (2011, Fort Walton Beach HS, Fla), and Brandon Mayhann (2011, Wewahitchka HS, Fla). All three hitters found the gab in right centerfield.

The Palm Beach County Grays scored 5 runs in the 5th inning on their way to an 11-5 win over the Orlando Scorpions Purple. The inning was capped by a 2-run single off the bat of Johnnie Nunez. Brett Ashely led the way for the Grays going 3-for-3 with two doubles, and RBI, 3 runs scored, and a walk.

Drew Bryan (2011, Phillipsburg-Osc HS, PA) tripled and scored in the 6th inning to salavage at tie for the Allengenny Tigers against the Orlando Scorpions Black, 6-6. Orlando was one out away from getting a victory. For the game Bryan went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and RBI, and two runs scored. For Orlando, Auston Bousfield (2011, West Orange HS, Fla) went 2-for-3 with a single, triple, and run scored.

The Columbia Angels White defeated FTB by a score of 10-5. For the Angels, Andrew Godail (2011, The Woodlands HS, TX) went 2-for-2 with a triple, 3 RBI's, 3 runs scored, and a walk. He's got a good, solid stroke, and is a strong kid. Morgan Decker (2011, The Woodlands HS, TX) went 3-for-4 with 2 singles, a triple, and 4 RBI's. Decker has plus size but can really square the ball up.

SE Texas Sun Devils righty Trae Davis (2010, Mexia HS, TX) has topped out at 88-92 mph on his fastball. He's a big, strong guy at 6'0" and 190 pounds. Also, his battering mate, Jackonville's Hayden Husrt (2012, Bolles HS, Fla) is also impressing. The 6'5" and 220 pound righty is getting his fastball clocked at 87-91 mph.

Taylor Lesch (2010, East Lake HS, Fla) pitched a complete game shutout as the Cyclones defeated the Allegheny Tigers by a score of 4-0. Lesch went all 7 innings and gave up just 2 hits, while adding 13 strikeouts and surrendering 5 walks. Lesch pitched in the mid 80's while topping out at 86 mph. He also mixed in a curveball at 71 mph and a change at 77 mph. Lesch is a tall, athletic lefty with great movement on his pitches. He's effortless, poised, and hustles on and off the field.

Also for the Cyclones, Ben Emery (2012, Dunedin HS, Fla) went 1-for-2 with a double, RBI, and a walk.

Zac Goodno (2011, Colquitt County HS, GA) hit a 1st inning grand slam as the Georgia Chiefs defeated the So Cal Elite by a score of 9-8. For the game, Goodno went 3-for-3 with the grand slam, two singles, 4 RBI's, and 2 runs scored. The Chiefs would put 6 runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st after seeing So Cal put up 4 runs of their own in the top half.

The Orlando Scorpions Black scored 6 runs in the top of the 1st inning as they knocked off the Miami Wolverines by a  score of 7-6. Orlando scored what turned out to be the winning run when Austin Leuck (2011, Lake Brantley HS, Fla.) scored in the 5th inning after a triple. The 6 run 1st inning was capped by a grand slam by Garrett Nuss (2011, Mt. Dora HS, Fla). Nuss showed his power and size (6'2" 185 pounds) as he sent the ball over the leftfield fence.

Tyler Bender (2012, Bishop Verot HS, Fla) pitched a complete game 2 hitter as the Cape Coral Cannons defeated the New England Ruffnecks by a score of 6-1. Bender went all 7 innings, gave up just 1 run on 2 hits, while adding 5 k's. Bender lost his no-hitter in the 5th inning when he gave up a single to Daniel Cellucci (2012, Lincoln-Sudbury HS, MA). Bender only pitched in the high 70's, but he good movement to go along with a plus curve. Troy Fatina (2012, Port Charlotte HS, Fla) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The All American Prospects got a strong pitching performance from Austin Perez and defeated the Apopka Black Sox by a score of 8-0. Perez worked all 5 innings for the Prospects and didn't allow a run while giving up just one hit. Perez lost his no-hitter in the 4th inning as he struckout 9 Black Sox. Perez worked his fastball in the 83-86 mph range while also addinga curve at around 74 mph. He's very consistant with his pitches, hits his spots, and is very athletic on and off the mound.

Tyler Kendall led the offensive attack for the Prospects going 2-for-2 with a single, home run, and 2 RBI's.

Four straight runners reached base to start the inning, while the rally was capped by a 2 RBI double by Dalton Bray (2011, Lutheran South HS, MO). For the game, Bray went 1-for-2 with a double, 2 RBI's, 2 runs scored and a walk.

Tyler Detmer got the win in relief for the Pirates, going 3 innings, allowed no hit and only one run. He also added 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.

The Elite Squad, fresh off their 15U BCS Championship two weeks ago, are playing with the 16U this week. Nick Travieso (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla) went 1-for-1 with 2 RBI's, and a couple of walks.

The Marucci's Elite used an 8 run 2nd inning as the Elite defeated the Orlando Scorpions Gray by a score of 11-0. The Elite used 7 hits, 3 walks, and an error to plate the 8 runs. Jacob Knox (2011, Catholic HS, LA) got the win for the Elite, throwing 4 innings, while allowing just 3 hits and 0 runs. He pitched in the low 80's and and had a slow curve at 52 mph. He also added 3 k's. 

Caleb Dugas (2011, Northwest Ranki, HS, MS) went 1-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI's, and a run scored, while Mason Robbins (2011, Geourge County HS, MS) went 2-for-3 with a couple of singles, 2 RBI's, and 2 runs scored.

Brandon Hester (2012, Northwood Academy HS, SC) pitched a complete game shutout as the Diamond Devils defeated Southwest Florida Baseball by a score of 3-0. Hester went all 7 innings and gave up just 3 hits and no runs. He also added 7 strikeouts, while allowing only 2 walks. Hester pitched in the low to mid 80's, while featuring a curve and change up. He showed good command and throws ground balls.

Shane Bussey (2012, The Kings Academy, Fla) singled and later scoored the go-ahead run in the top of the 6th inning to lead the Prosepects to a 3-2 win over the SE Texas Sun Devils. Also from the Prospects, Michael Demo (2011, Plant HS, Fla) went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

SE Texas Sun Devils catcher Stryker Trahan (2012, Acadiana HS, LA) has looked good behind the plate. He's got good, fluid mechanics to go with an above average throwing arm. He's also quick on his feet  to go along with plus size (6'0" and 195 pounds) and a left handed bat.

The Columbia Angels Red defeated the Palm Beach Select by a score of 8-4. The Angels were able to cruise ahead thanks in part to a 5 run 3rd inning. The Angels got back to back doubles from Brock Hartson (2011, Pearland HS, TX) and Cody Glenn (2011, Westbury Christian HS, TX). The doubles were followed by a triple hit Phillip Casey (2011, Clements HS, TX), capping the big inning.

The South Florida Elite Squad got a strong start from Nick Baker (2011, Highlands Christain HS, Fla) as the defeated the Orlando Scorpions by of 6-1. Baker thre 5 innings, allowed only one run on 5 hits, as he struckout 6 and walked 2. He pitched in the low 80's but was effective with his curve and change.

For the Pirates, Garrett Schlecht (2011, Belleview West HS, IL) has hit 2 home runs to power the the Pirates, but a 4th inning rally by Cape Coral has seen the Pirates trail by a score of 10-5 as the teams head to the 5th inning.

The Jacksonville Heat scored 2 runs in the 6th and another in the 7th as they defeated the Dulins Dodgers by a score fo 4-2. Elliot Warford (2011, Ponte Vedra HS, Fla) scored the winning run after he led off the inning with an double and later scored on an RBI single by Kevin Young (2011, Ponte Vedra HS, Fla).

JD Underwood (2011, Palm Beach Gardens HS, Fla) hita 3-run home run as the Palm Beach PAL defeated the Midwest Wolverines by a score of 6-0. Andrew Istler (2011, Wellington HS, Fla) threw 5 shutout innings for the PAL. He allowed only 2 hits while striking out 4 and walking one. Istler isn't an overpowering guy, but he's effective, as he also brings a curve and change to the table.

Midwest Wolverines righty Nathan Williams (2011, Valley Center HS, KS) has impressed early in his outing against Palm Beach. Williams has touched 90 mph and throws consistantly in the mid to high 80's. He also features a hard slider that has touched 80 mph. Williams is also very projectable at 6'3" and 200 pounds. Through 2 inning of work he has yet to allow a hit or a run while striking out 2.

Righty Ceser Agulair (2010, AB Miller HS, CA) looked impressive in his outing today as his fastball was clocked at 89-91 mph. He also featured a sharp slider at 77-80 mph. Agulair has good stuff and an easy arm that seems effortless as the ball flows out of his hand. He's also very projectabl at 6'4" and 248 pounds.

The Columbus Cobras rode an 8 run 1st inning as they knocked off the Naples Stingers by a score of 10-2. Russ Hogue (2011, Indian Lake HS, OH) led the way for the Cobras going 3-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Hogue also saw time on the mound as he got the start and worked the first two innings. He struckout out 4 and walked one, while allowing on earned run and 2 hits. He's got a good curve to go along with an average fastball and he picks his spots, knowing how to use his pitches.

Josh Townsend (2012, Asceola HS, Fla) went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored as the the West Florida Shockerd dominated the FTB Black Racers by a score of 14-0 in 4 innings. The Shockers also got strong pitching performances from Taylor Layner (2011, Asceola HS, Fla) and Carson Fulmer. Layner worked 3 perfect innings, while adding 9 strikeouts. Fulmer worked the 4th inning, allowing only a walk while adding 4 strikeouts.

Layner pitched in the mid 80's while topping out at 85 mph. The lefty also added a good curve at 71-72 mph. He's got good mechanics and tailing action on his 2-seam, to go along with his 3/4 arm slot. Fulmer and his high 80's fastball closed things out. The righty topped at 89 mph and added a change up at 78 mph. Fulmer likes to work quick and has a plus change. He keeps his arm action the same and adds a good 2 seam.
