Sims has a good frame (6'1" 175) and one can hope that he can build off that and add even more velocity to his fastball.

His off-speed stuff is his strong point, as he has kept hitters off balance with an above average change up and breaking ball.

The DBAT's have the 2-1 lead in the 4th inning.

Homeplate Chilidogs vs NTBL Stars >>
This game is crusing right along as the Stars have a 3-1 lead in the 4th inning. A player we've been watching this week is Alex Liquori (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) of the Chilidogs. Though Liquori is 0-for-2 in this game he's had some tough luck, as he's hit the ball well in both at bats. He also had the game-winning hit in yesterdays game. He caught the attention early in the week after he was runner up in both the Rawlings Home Run Challenge and the Verve! Fastest Man Competition. Simply, Liquori looks like a baseball player. He should get better as he gets bigger and stronger. He's a got a real good approach at the plate, sees the ball well, and has a quite swing that is short and compact.
South Florida Elite vs Team Georgia >>
The Elite get the win by a score of 10-0 in 6 innings. Nick Baker (2011, Highlands Christian, Fla) got the win for the Elite throwing 6 innings, while striking out 10 batters. It was a no doubt line drive shot that Klement just crushed. Klement, who has played both left field and second base in this tournament, is at his natural position of catcher this morning. He looks comfortable behind the plate and moves well, and throws to second base in the low 2's. Klement also passes the eye test as he's listed at a solid 6'1" and 180 pounds.

He has played three different positions this week and played well. He's got a compact swing and quick hands from the left side of the plate. He's got a great arm and runs very well. Though he caught today, he looks to be an outfielder by trade.

Alabama slugged there way to an early 2-0 lead over Connecticut through the first few frames. Home run champ Nick Masonia (2011, Brooks HS, AL) tripled to left center field, flying around the bases. Fastest man champ Ryan Smith followed with a home run to right field.

Masonia has looked very impressive this week both at the plate and in the field. He's quick and athletic, and will only get better as he gets older and stronger. He also showcased a great arm throwing a runner out at first from deep in the hole at short.

Smith showed some power as he hit he opposite field home run with the wind blowing in. He has a good approach at the plate and takes what the pitcher gives him. He's a speed guy with gap power, and is real athletic.
Diamond Devils vs Team Gwinnett >>
Diamond Devils ahead early in this one by a score of 2-1. Team Gwinnett's Christin Stewart (2012, Providence Chria HS, GA) continues to impress as he singled and scored in his firs at-ba. Stewart, who is catching today, it a line drive to right field , spoiling a solid curveball.
Naples Rays vs Team Alabama  >>
This one was all Alabama as they win 12-0 over Naples in 4 innings. Alabama was led my Fastest Man Competition winner Ryan Smith went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double, three steals, and two runs scored.

Nick Masonia (2011, Brooks HS, AL) who won the Rawlings Home Run Challenge went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored but hit the ball hard in his first two at bats. Masonia hit out of the lead off spot showed quick hands annd quickness. He's got an athletic body with an open stance.
Team Conn vs Team Gwinnett >>
This one just went final as Gwinnett took care of Connecticut by a score of 9-1 in 5 inning. The game took just over an hour and a half to complete. The offensive attatck was led by Kyler Berrett (2012, Buford High School, GA) who went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and a run scored. Berrett showed a good approach at the plate as he took the ball up the middle and to the opposite side.

Troy Herterick got the win going all 5 inning while allowing only 3 hits and one earned run. He also had 3 K's and face just two batters over the minimium. Herterick has a good delivery and a decent change. He likes to work the ball away, while keeping hitters off balance by changing speeds.
All American Prospects vs Diamond Devils >>
The Prospects lead this one by a score of 4-2 in the 3rd inning. But, it was the Devils that got on the board first when Hunter Lambert (2011, Aynor HS, SC) took the third pitch of the game over the left field wall for the early home run. This is pretty impressive seeing that Lambert is only 5'9" and 145 pounds. The Propsect would string together rallies in the first two frames to grab the lead.
Team Conn vs Team Gwinnett >>
Gwinnett has an early 2-0 lead in this one. The early rally was capped by a lead off triple by Troy Herperer (2012, Buford HS, GA) who is also the lefty starter for Gwinnett. He didn't show great speed, but ran the bases well. The next batter was Mason Gentry (2013, Buford HS, GA) who stroked a double down the right field line to get the run in. Gentry is a very interesting player as he is listed at 6'6" and 208 pounds and has yet to set foot on a high school campus. He begins his freshman year at Burford this fall. He's also a right handed pitcher, but we've yet to see him pitch (As soon as he does we will update).

Another player that is being noticed around here is Gwinnett's Christin Stewart (2012, Providence Chria HS, GA). Stewart is one of the more athletic guy's we've seen around with a good combination of speed and arm strength (He took part in the Verve! Fastest Man Competition and finished 4th with a time of 6.88). He's also impressed at the plate with a very fluid and compact swing. We also find it very interesting that he's listed as a catcher and a first baseman in our porgams. We saw him in the outfield yesterday and he looked right at home. Playing first base today, he made a great play to tag out a runner as the ball was thrown up the first base line.
Chain Baseball Black vs Homeplate Chilidogs >>
Late inning heroics were the story in this one as the Chilidogs score 5 runs in the 7th inning to defeat Chain Baseball by a score of 8-7. Alex Liquori (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) continues to impress this week as he had the game winning hit with two outs in the 7th inning. Liquori went 1-for-4 with the RBI. This week Liquori has shown a big swing and he hits all over. As I've said in previous posts, he's a descent sized (6'0" 180 pounds) kid who is very projectable.

In total, the Chilidogs had 5 hits, 2 walks, and 1 hit by pitch in the final frame.

Tampa Bay Warriors vs Spartanburg Phillies >>
Gm # 15 | 6/26/2005 | 12:30 PM ABD Tigers vs. Fullerton Indians
For the Phillies Matthew Teal (2011, J.F. Byrnes HS, SC) impressed at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. He's a solid contact hitter and has a great approach at the plate. He's got alertness and runs the bases aggressively.

For the Warriors Jason Carmichael (2012, Cape Coral HS, Fla) got the start and threw 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 6 batters and featured a fastball in the mid 80's, while topping at 86 mph. Carmichael is very projectable as he has time and size (6'3" 185 pounds) on his side.
Tri State Arsenal vs Excel Blue Sox  >>
Gm # 9 | 6/25/2005 | 3:00 PM PG USA Steel vs. Baseball America
Arsenal were all over the Blue Sox by a score of 11-1 as the Blue Sox struggled to throw the ball over the plate.

Michael Zolk (2011, North Catholic HS, PA) led the way for the Arsenal going 2-for-3 with a double, hit by pitch, and two runs scored. He's tall (5'11") and has a very projectable boby. He's got an open stance and is not afraid of the ball. He's got great power and good presence on the field. He also came into pitch an inning late in the game. He was touched up for 2 hits and 2 earned runs in his one inning of work, but he's got a good change up. He's a good athlete and projectable.
Tampa Bay Warriors vs Spartanburg Phillies >>
Gm # 7 | 6/25/2005 | 12:30 PM Bill Hood-Marucci Bat Co vs. Marina Vikings
The Phillies get the win over the Warriors by score of 4-3. The phillies were led by lefty Loren King (2011, East Henderson HS, NC) who threw a complete game four-hitter. King struck out 4 batters and his fastball ran between 78-81 mph, while also hitting 81 mph in the 7th inning.
South Florida Elite vs NE Ruffnecks >>
Gm # 5 | 6/25/2005 | 10:00 AM ABD Tigers vs. Marina Vikings
New England gets the win in this one by a score of 8-7 as they put together a strong hitting performance. But, the story of this one was South Florida reliever Nick Travieso (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla).

Travieso was clocked as high as 92 mph and was consistantly in the high 80's and low 90's. He hit 92 mph three stright times, while only featuring the fastball. He's got a long body with great build, and a solid delivery. The ball comes out of his hand free and easy. Travieso is not a max effort guy, so he's a future power arm with power stuff.

Esteban Puerta (2012, University School, Fla) was the offensive star for South Florida as he went 3-3 with a 3-run home run, and two runs scored.
Under Armour Heat vs DBAT Mustangs >>
Gm # 1 | 6/24/2005 | 4:00 PM California Lightning vs. Baseball America
The first final is in the books as DBAT wins a pitchers dual over the Heat by a score of 1-0. This game finished in a quick one hour and 10 minutes. Jovan Hernandez (Rockwall Heath HS, TX) got the win, throwing a complete game shutout. The righty allowed on 4 hits and didn't walk a batter, while striking out 8 in 7 innings of work. Hernandez topped out at 85 mph with a 3/4 arm slot. He kept the hitters guessing, while showcasing good command.

The lone run of the game came from Grant Bothun (2012, Rowlett HS, TX) when he hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Lefty Sam Kuniec took the hard luck lose for the Heat. He pitched well in 6 innings of work, giving up the one run, while scattering 5 hits. He struck out 9 batters and didn't allow a walk. The lefty topped out at 79 mph and mixed in a lot of good off speed stuff. Kuniec is a big guy, so one can hope he uses his frame to his advantage as he develops.
East Cobb Astros vs Indiana Prospects >>
Heading into the 4th inning of this it's the Astros leading by a score of 3-1 over Indiana. On the mound for East Cobb is lefty Mason Felt (2012, Mill Creek HS, GA). Felt is a big lefty at 6'1" and 180 pounds and mixes up his different pitches. His fastball hit as high as 85 mph and a he mixed in a good slider and change up.

Matt Gonzalez (2012, Harrison HS, GA) got the Astros on the board first with an RBI double.

South Florida Elite vs NE Ruffnecks >>

South Florida Elite catcher Michael Klement (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla) has hit a 2-run home run in his first at-bat against the Ruffnecks. Klement is a good sized kid (6'1" 180 pounds) and has shown to be a solid catcher with a great arm as he threw out a runner by about five steps trying to steal second base.

On the mound for the Elite is Ivan Pelaez (2012, Miami Sunset HS, Fla). The lefty is tall and lanky and features a fastball in the low 80's. Also in his aresnal is a late breaking slider in the low 70's.

Through 3 innings, the Ruffnecks lead this one by a score of 5-3.

Naples Rays vs Team Connecticut >>
Team Connecticut gets the win 5-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Colin Sledzik (2011, Haddam Killingw HS, CT). Sledzik went the distance while striking out 11 batters, gave up 3 hits, didn't allow a walk or an earned run. His fastball runs around 80 mph and he knows how to locate his pitches. The hitting star of the game was Carson Helms who went 3-3 with two singles and a triple. He has strong, quick hands and a closed batting stance comparable to that of Edgar Renteria.
NVTBL Stars 2012 White vs Chain Black Baseball 15u >>
Chain wins this one by a score of 5-2. John Harmon pitched 6 2/3 innings of 4 hit ball, while striking out 9 batters and walking two. The left topped out at 83, while pitching 79-82.
Team Gwinett Mizuno vs All American Prospects Gray >>
On the the mound for the All American Prospects is Tanner Anderson (2011, Plant HS, Fla). Anderson is 6'0", weighs 165 pounds, and just turned 16 years-old due to a late birthday. His fastball was clocked as high as 87 mph and hangs around the mid 80's. He struckout 6 batters through 3 innings, and a lot of this has to do with a downward side arm angle that creates some run on the ball.
Homeplate Chilidogs vs Austin Banditos >>
Last night's Rawlings Home Run Challenge and Verve! Fastest Man Competition runner up Alex Liquori (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) continues to impress as he just hit a long home run over at the Red Sox Five-Plex. Our scout estimated the ball traveled around 385 feet.

Yesterday evening Liquoir hit four home runs during the Challenge and came runner up inthe Fastest Man with a time of 6.71. Thus far Liquoir has showcased a very nice combination of power and speed. The 2012 graduate is listed at 6'0" and 180 so there is a nice frame to build on.
Excel Blue Sox vs South Florida Elite Squad >>
Camp completed his outing by going the distance allowing only 4 hits and one walk, while striking out 6 batters. He stayed consistant with his pitches throughout as he was able to keep his velocity up on his fastball and the break on his curve.
East Cobb Rangers vs DBAT Mustangs  >>
On the mound for East Cobb is James Farnell (2012, Dunwoody HS, GA), a tall, lanky left hander. Farnell is listed at 6'3" and 160 pounds and features a fastball and a slider with a late rinkle to it. He has a lot of deception not only in his delivery but in his pick off move to first base. He also features good mechanics and his fastball touches around 80 mph.
Excel Blue Sox vs South Florida Elite Squad >>
Excel pitcher Justin Camp (2011, Austin HS, AL) had his fastball clocked as high as 91 mph. Consistantly, he hung between 89-91 for the most part. His curveball is described as an 11-to-5 "hammer" at 70-72 mph. He's got a big time arm and is very projectable with a strong, physical frame, which is at 6'1" and 210 pounds. The right hander will enter his junior year this fall.
Austin Banditos vs NVTBL Stars 2012 White >>
Due to time limit, this game finished at a 3-3 tie. On the mound for Austin was Aaron Colins (2012, Georgetown HS, TX) had a strong outing on the mound as he struckout 10 batters over 7 innings. Collins works both sides of the plate with good command of both his fastball and curveball, while topping out at 78 mph on his fastball. He's a competitior with a 3/4 arm slot.
Indiana Prospects vs. Gators Baseball >>
This one has just gone final as the Indiana Prospects get the 5-1 win over Gators Baseball.

For Indiana, pitcher Jordan Streigel (2012, New Albany HS, IN) was clocked in the mid 80's with his fastball, while getting as high as 87 mph. He also snapped off a couple of very impressive 12-to-6 curveballs. The righty could get better if you works on his mechanics and not tipping his off-speed pitches.
San Gabriel Valley Arsenal vs Homeplate Chilidogs >>
For the Chilidogs, Daniel Amos (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) was just clocked at 84 mph on his fastbal. What makes this interesting is that Amos is listed at only 5'7" and 155 pounds. With that said, who know how hard that fastball could be thrown with some extra inches and pounds to his body.

Also catching some attention is Chilidogs catcher Tyler Bowers (2012, Northgate HS, GA). Bowers has shown a strong arm behind the plate and is said to have a real athletic body.
Chain Baseball Black vs New England Navigators >>
This one just went final as Chain Baseball knocks off the Navigators 13-0. Besides a solid hitting performance, Robert Daniel threw a 4 inning no-hitter. Daniel also struckout 8 batters. He's a lefty that showed good command of his fastbal that ran between 76-80 mph.
Coral Springs Diamonds vs Titans Baseball >>
On the mound for the Titans is Cain Spangler (2012, Cape Coral HS, Fla). Spangler is listed at 6'2" and has a fastball around 80 mph. He has a good natural life on his fastball and seems to be very projectable with his size.

For Cape Springs, Derek Fritz (2013, American Heritage HS, Fla) is a catcher that has impressed so far in this one. At 6'0" and 165 pounds he's got a very projectabe body for a catcher. He's a solid hitter and a good catch and throw guy.
Indiana Prospects vs. Gators Baseball >>

A player that we will be keeping an eye on is Connor Adams (2012, Granbury HS, TX) from Gators Baseball. Adams hits and throws from the left side, but what makes him interesting is his size, as he's listed at 6'5" and 190 pounds. As a 15-year-old this is definitely out of the ordinary.

On the mound for Indiana is Colin Shanteau (2012, Guerin Catholic, IN). The righty tops out at around 80 mph but has some movement on it. He also has a pretty well developed curveball for his age. He's got a good mound presense and a quick pick-off move to first base.

Indiana Prospects vs. Gators Baseball >>
Through 3 innings the Gators have a 1-0 lead. Indiana shortstop JP Pena (Fishers HS, IN) saved alteast two runs in the 2nd inning when he dove to his his right to stop a hard hit grounder from going into centerfield and flipped the ball out of his glove to second base to end the threat.
