Pelaez a lefty, worked his fastball in the mid 80's while mixing in a curveball and a change up. He's got a smooth delivery and a 3/4's arm slot. He attacks the hitters and works well around the strike zone. He's very decieving and has a good arm side run.

By rule, when a game goes to extra innings each team gets a bases loaded and one out situation. Gwinnett would come back and get 4 more runs of there own in the top of the 8th thanks in large part to Troy Herterick to score two runs. Gwinnett would add two more runs thanks to a couple of fielder's choice.  Indiana could only manage one run in there bottom half.

#12 SFL Elite Squad vs #5 Austin Banditos >>

7/11/2009 9:15:48 AM

South Florida leads this one by a score of 5-2 in the 5 inning. The highlight of this one is a triple play turned by  South Florida. It started with a simple fly out to the left fielder who threw the runner trying to move from 2nd to 3rd. Then, the third baseman threw to 2nd, throwing out the guy trying to move from 1st to 2nd. For those of you scoring at home, it goes down as a 7-5-4 triple play.
#10 Gwinnett vs #7 Indiana Prospects >>

7/11/2009 9:11:13 AM

Gwinnett leads by a score of 4-0 in the 4th inning as they have gotten a strong start from righty Lucas Sims (2012, Brookwood HS, GA). After 3 innings, Sims hasn't allowed a hit, while surrendering only two bases runners; one coming on a hit by pitch and the other on an error. Sims has a lot of life and arm side run on his fastball that clocks in the high 80's, while topping at 88 mph. He's a raw talent that needs to develop his off speed stuff. Sims has a good frame (6'1" 175) and one can hope that he can build off that and add even more velocity to his fastball.
#11 Spartanburg Phillies vs #6 DBAT Mustangs  >>

7/11/2009 9:05:46 AM

The Phillies got on the board first when James Nevant (2012, Carolina Day, NC) took a fastball that cleared well over the left field fence. He's got an open stance with good size (6'2" 200 pounds) and good power.

The Mustangs would battle back in the bottom half of the inning to get two runs as an error and a pass ball platted a run. That was followed up by an RBI single by Dylan May  (2013, Trinity Christian, TX).

On the mound for the Phillies is Michael Peery (2011, West Henderson HS, NC). Peery is very projectable considering his size (6'3" 180 pounds) and has a fastball in the low to mid 80's. His off-speed stuff is his strong point, as he has kept hitters off balance with an above average change up and breaking ball.

The DBAT's have the 2-1 lead in the 4th inning.
#9 NE Ruffnecks vs #8 NVTBL Stars >>

7/11/2009 8:57:32 AM

This one got off to a great start as three young ladies sang the National Anthem. Though we didn't have microphones, that didn't stop them, as they did a great job.

After an inning of play the Stars have a 1-0 lead thanks in part to a lead off triple by Tyler Caldwell (2012, Potomac Fall HS, VA). Caldwell cut the passes very well in his trip around the bases. He's got above average speed and gap power. He would later score on a sac fly.

Both teams would get out of early jams in the first frame with double plays to get of the inning.

DBAT Mustangs vs Spartanburg Phillies >>

The Mustangs take this one by a score of 10-5 over the Phillies. For the DBAT's, Jovan Hernandez (2012, Rockwell Heath HS, TX) went 2-for-2 with a single, double, walk, and 2 runs scored. Hernandez is selective and can really swing it. He's got quick hands and really tracks the ball well.

Also for the Mustangs, Cody Weishaar (2011, Terrell HS, TX) went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. He hit it over the high fence in right field on Clemente Field. At the plate he's got an opens stance and somewhat of an upper cut. Weishaar is also a very good center fielder as he made several nice plays to save runs.
Homeplate Chilidogs vs NTBL Stars >>

7/10/2009 11:40:02 AM

This game is crusing right along as the Stars have a 3-1 lead in the 4th inning. A player we've been watching this week is Alex Liquori (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) of the Chilidogs. Though Liquori is 0-for-2 in this game he's had some tough luck, as he's hit the ball well in both at bats. He also had the game-winning hit in yesterdays game. He caught the attention early in the week after he was runner up in both the Rawlings Home Run Challenge and the Verve! Fastest Man Competition. Simply, Liquori looks like a baseball player. He should get better as he gets bigger and stronger. He's a got a real good approach at the plate, sees the ball well, and has a quite swing that is short and compact.
South Florida Elite vs Team Georgia >>

7/10/2009 10:15:57 AM

The Elite get the win by a score of 10-0 in 6 innings. Nick Baker (2011, Highlands Christian, Fla) got the win for the Elite throwing 6 innings, while striking out 10 batters. He didn't allow any runs, walked 2, and scattered 4 hits. Baker pitched in the mid 80's throughout while topping out at 85 mph. He also mixed in a devisating curve that kept the Georgia hitters off balance.
South Florida Elite vs Team Georgia >>

7/10/2009 9:04:41 AM

Heading to the 5th inning, it's the Elite all over Georgia by a score of 5-0. For the Elite, catcher Michael Klement (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla) continues to impress as he just hit a 2-run home run over the left field wall at City of Palms Stadium. It was a no doubt line drive shot that Klement just crushed. Klement, who has played both left field and second base in this tournament, is at his natural position of catcher this morning. He looks comfortable behind the plate and moves well, and throws to second base in the low 2's. Klement also passes the eye test as he's listed at a solid 6'1" and 180 pounds.
Excel Blue Sox vs NE Ruffnecks >>

7/9/2009 3:26:44 PM

He has played three different positions this week and played well. He's got a compact swing and quick hands from the left side of the plate. He's got a great arm and runs very well. Masonia has looked very impressive this week both at the plate and in the field. He's quick and athletic, and will only get better as he gets older and stronger. He also showcased a great arm throwing a runner out at first from deep in the hole at short.

Smith showed some power as he hit he opposite field home run with the wind blowing in. He has a good approach at the plate and takes what the pitcher gives him. He's a speed guy with gap power, and is real athletic.

Troy Herterick got the win going all 5 inning while allowing only 3 hits and one earned run. He also had 3 K's and face just two batters over the minimium. Herterick has a good delivery and a decent change. He likes to work the ball away, while keeping hitters off balance by changing speeds.
All American Prospects vs Diamond Devils >>

7/8/2009 2:23:23 PM

The Prospects lead this one by a score of 4-2 in the 3rd inning. But, it was the Devils that got on the board first when Hunter Lambert (2011, Aynor HS, SC) took the third pitch of the game over the left field wall for the early home run. This is pretty impressive seeing that Lambert is only 5'9" and 145 pounds. The Propsect would string together rallies in the first two frames to grab the lead.
Team Conn vs Team Gwinnett >>

7/8/2009 2:18:00 PM

Gwinnett has an early 2-0 lead in this one. The early rally was capped by a lead off triple by Troy Herperer (2012, Buford HS, GA) who is also the lefty starter for Gwinnett. He didn't show great speed, but ran the bases well. The next batter was Mason Gentry (2013, Buford HS, GA) who stroked a double down the right field line to get the run in. Gentry is a very interesting player as he is listed at 6'6" and 208 pounds and has yet to set foot on a high school campus. He begins his freshman year at Burford this fall. He's also a right handed pitcher, but we've yet to see him pitch (As soon as he does we will update).

Another player that is being noticed around here is Gwinnett's Christin Stewart (2012, Providence Chria HS, GA). Stewart is one of the more athletic guy's we've seen around with a good combination of speed and arm strength (He took part in the Verve! Fastest Man Competition and finished 4th with a time of 6.88). He's also impressed at the plate with a very fluid and compact swing. We also find it very interesting that he's listed as a catcher and a first baseman in our porgams. We saw him in the outfield yesterday and he looked right at home. Playing first base today, he made a great play to tag out a runner as the ball was thrown up the first base line.

7/8/2009 1:24:34 PM

Late inning heroics were the story in this one as the Chilidogs score 5 runs in the 7th inning to defeat Chain Baseball by a score of 8-7. Alex Liquori (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) continues to impress this week as he had the game winning hit with two outs in the 7th inning. Liquori went 1-for-4 with the RBI. This week Liquori has shown a big swing and he hits all over. As I've said in previous posts, he's a descent sized (6'0" 180 pounds) kid who is very projectable.

In total, the Chilidogs had 5 hits, 2 walks, and 1 hit by pitch in the final frame.

Arsenal were all over the Blue Sox by a score of 11-1 as the Blue Sox struggled to throw the ball over the plate.

Michael Zolk (2011, North Catholic HS, PA) led the way for the Arsenal going 2-for-3 with a double, hit by pitch, and two runs scored. He's tall (5'11") and has a very projectable boby. He's got an open stance and is not afraid of the ball. He's got great power and good presence on the field. He also came into pitch an inning late in the game. He was touched up for 2 hits and 2 earned runs in his one inning of work, but he's got a good change up. He's a good athlete and projectable.

New England gets the win in this one by a score of 8-7 as they put together a strong hitting performance. But, the story of this one was South Florida reliever Nick Travieso (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla).

Travieso was clocked as high as 92 mph and was consistantly in the high 80's and low 90's. He hit 92 mph three stright times, while only featuring the fastball. He's got a long body with great build, and a solid delivery. The ball comes out of his hand free and easy. Travieso is not a max effort guy, so he's a future power arm with power stuff.

Esteban Puerta (2012, University School, Fla) was the offensive star for South Florida as he went 3-3 with a 3-run home run, and two runs scored.

The lefty topped out at 79 mph and mixed in a lot of good off speed stuff. Kuniec is a big guy, so one can hope he uses his frame to his advantage as he develops.

7/8/2009 8:58:48 AM

South Florida Elite catcher Michael Klement (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla) has hit a 2-run home run in his first at-bat against the Ruffnecks. Klement is a good sized kid (6'1" 180 pounds) and has shown to be a solid catcher with a great arm as he threw out a runner by about five steps trying to steal second base.

On the mound for the Elite is Ivan Pelaez (2012, Miami Sunset HS, Fla). The lefty is tall and lanky and features a fastball in the low 80's. Also in his aresnal is a late breaking slider in the low 70's.

His fastball was clocked as high as 87 mph and hangs around the mid 80's. For Indiana, pitcher Jordan Streigel (2012, New Albany HS, IN) was clocked in the mid 80's with his fastball, while getting as high as 87 mph. He also snapped off a couple of very impressive 12-to-6 curveballs. The righty could get better if you works on his mechanics and not tipping his off-speed pitches.
San Gabriel Valley Arsenal vs Homeplate Chilidogs >>

7/7/2009 9:43:56 AM

For the Chilidogs, Daniel Amos (2012, Whitewater HS, GA) was just clocked at 84 mph on his fastbal. What makes this interesting is that Amos is listed at only 5'7" and 155 pounds. With that said, who know how hard that fastball could be thrown with some extra inches and pounds to his body.

Also catching some attention is Chilidogs catcher Tyler Bowers (2012, Northgate HS, GA). Bowers has shown a strong arm behind the plate and is said to have a real athletic body.
Chain Baseball Black vs New England Navigators >>

For Cape Springs, Derek Fritz (2013, American Heritage HS, Fla) is a catcher that has impressed so far in this one. At 6'0" and 165 pounds he's got a very projectabe body for a catcher. He's a solid hitter and a good catch and throw guy.
Indiana Prospects vs. Gators Baseball >>

7/7/2009 9:16:16 AM

A player that we will be keeping an eye on is Connor Adams (2012, Granbury HS, TX) from Gators Baseball. Adams hits and throws from the left side, but what makes him interesting is his size, as he's listed at 6'5" and 190 pounds. As a 15-year-old this is definitely out of the ordinary.

On the mound for Indiana is Colin Shanteau (2012, Guerin Catholic, IN). The righty tops out at around 80 mph but has some movement on it. He also has a pretty well developed curveball for his age. He's got a good mound presense and a quick pick-off move to first base.
