Batting Practice Highlights >>

8/18/2014 4:01:49 PM

The most impressive power display of the event came from a surprise source. There were several well known prospects coming into the event who would have been the likely suspects to put on the most impressive power show, and several of them lived up to expectations. But it was 2016 OF/CIF Gabe Barthelmass (Laguna Niguel, CA) who stole the show. He crushed three home runs during his ten swings with several more deep shots that landed on the warning track.

2017 IF Jayson Gonzalez (Azusa, CA) was one of the usual suspects and he did not disappoint. The physical right hander showed an impressive combination of loose strength, bat speed and athleticism in his swing and he has a high power ceiling and a potential to develop his hit tool, all of the ingredients are already beginning to show at a young age.

2016 C Nolan Collett (Glendora, CA) showed a good gap to gap approach, consistently squaring up hard line drives to the center of the field with a well controlled aggressive swing that he repeated well.

2016  OF Cameron Landreth (Los Angeles, CA) generated solid bat speed from a short compact swing with good strength at contact and he projects for increased strength gains which should allow him to further develop as a hitter.

2017 MIF/OF Tristan Hanoian (Costa Mesa, CA) showed a smooth well balanced swing with a line drive swing plane that he controlled well and drove the ball to all fields.

2018 MIF CJ Brown (Jamol, CA) showed advanced polish for his age, with a sound swing and interesting tools to project upon with a very solid round.

2016 3B Noah Prewett (Calabasas, CA) showed good carry from his line drive swing and showed a consistent repeatable swing.

2017 C Hunter Isbell (San Diego, CA) showed surprising present power for his size via leverage and extension and he has advanced bat speed. As he gets stronger and becomes even more efficient with his swing he has the potential to develop significant power.

2018 RHP/3B Cade Brown (Cardiff, CA) showed big power potential, he is very strong for a rising freshman and uses that strength well in his uppercut swing.

2016 1B/RHP Mitchell Allen (Phoenix, AZ) showed big pullside power, lofting a couple of home runs over the left field fence.

2016 1B Phillip Quartaro (Bell Canyon, CA) showed good bat speed and good carry off of his bat thanks to strong hands, and his round was highlighted by a long home run out of left field.

2015 OF Charles Grant-DeBose (Torrance, CA) showed good bat speed and created leverage in his swing to generate good carry and he projects for significant strength gains and has shown very promising all around development progress over the past year and could be emerging as one of SoCal's more significant HS OF prospects for 2015.

2015 OF Daniel Priwin (Sugar Land, TX) had a very impressive round. He generates very good bat speed and drives the ball with very strong forearms, he crushed the ball to all fields in one of the best rounds of the event.

2015 OF Ryan Eastburn (Harbor City, CA) showed good bat speed and made hard contact at a good clip in spite of the moving parts to his swing, he projects well physically and has a chance to hit as he refines his swing.

2015 C/OF Jacob Davies (Encino, CA) showed good strength at contact with a short swing and homered on the final pitch of his round.

2015 MIF Nick Guaragna (Scottsdale, AZ) showed good bat speed with an aggressive swing that generated pullside pop.

2015 1B Kyle Stewart (Ladera Ranch, CA) looked comfortable taking BP on his home field, showing good strength generated power.
2-Columbia Blue vs. 5-Maroon Highlights >>

8/18/2014 7:12:26 AM

2015 C Tyler Murray (Huntington Beach, CA) provided the highlight of the game. After getting hit by a pitch in his second at-bat of the game, he took advantage of the "fastball only" situation that results (per PG showcase rules any batter that is walked or hit by a pitch will remain in the box with the same number of strikes and continue the at-bat with the pitcher required to throw only fastballs) by crushing the next pitch he saw over the left field fence. He also posted a 1.88 pop time in between innings and showed solid receiving ability behind the plate.

2017 MIF/RHP
Jake Rogers (Las Vegas, NV) impressed in a 2-for-3 effort, driving in and scoring a run with a short simple swing. He also threw a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout and allowing just one hit.

2016 C/1B
Michael Borg (Whittier, CA) went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.

2016 SS
Matthew Fields (Lakewood, CA) went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples, showing surprising power for his slender athletic frame.

2016 C
Cooper Uhl (Mission Viejo, CA) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and was a well struck lineout to short away from a 3-for-3 game. He also showed well defensively with compact actions behind the plate and solid catch and throw ability.

2016 1B/RHP
Mitchell Allen (Phoenix, AZ) had a big showing, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and also ran his fastball up to 85 mph while striking out two of the three batters he faced in his one inning of relief.

2017 LHP Isaac Esquida (Pomona, CA) struck out three and allowed just an unearned run over three innings, topping out at 86 mph and spinning a quality 73 mph curveball and flashing a 75 mph changeup.

2017 OF/RHP Daniel De La Pena (Monterey Park, CA) struck out all three batters he faced in his inning of relief, topping out at 82 mph.

2017 RHP Marcus Christy (Mesa, AZ) struck out four in three scoreless innings, sitting 80-82 with his fastball and generating uncomfortable swings from right handers thanks to the angle his cross-body delivery creates coming from the third base side. He backed the fastball with a curveball up to 69 mph and a changeup up to 75.

3- Dark Green vs 6- Navy Highlights >>

8/18/2014 1:34:22 AM

The game got off to a fast start as 2016 OF Joeseph Mendez (Saugus, CA) led off the game with a home run to left field. He would make hard contact each of his next two at-bats as well, finishing the day 2-for-3.

2017 OF/RHP Chris Demgen (Carlsbad, CA) had a productive game on both sides of the ball. He went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored at the plate, and he also struck out a pair on the mound working in the upper 70s.

2017 MIF/OF Tristan Hanoian (Costa Mesa, CA) was one of the top prospects of the event, showing high end ability on both sides of the ball. He went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, and he stood out with his baserunning instincts, showing intelligent aggression. He also stood out defensively for his fast feet and quick actions.

2017 C/1B Nick Hernandez (Las Vegas, NV) showed some pop in a 1-for-2 game, his only non-productive plate appearance came on a high fly ball that hung for 6.28 seconds, he also had an RBI sac fly with a 6.32 second hang time as well as an RBI single in a loud offensive showing.

2016 RHP Parker McHale (Las Vegas, NV) registered the event's highest velocity, running his fastball up to 91 mph in an impressive three up/three down inning of work. He paired it with a power curveball at 79, and also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

2016 3B/RHP Noah Prewett (Calabasas, CA) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and ran his fastball up to 84 mph in a threee up/three down ininng of work on the mound.

2017 C Jake Meyer (Scottsdale, AZ) showed quick feet behind the plate defensively and good lateral agility. He also showed a quick swing and went 1-for-2 at the plate.

1-Black vs 4 Gold. >>

8/17/2014 6:16:51 PM

2018 RHP Ethan Sachs (Riverside, CA, Arlington HS) impressed on the mound as the young righty ran his fastball up to 84 mph and pounded the strike zone in a quick 1,2,3 inning.

2017 Dylan Aronne (San Juan Capistrano, CA) showed good bat speed and drilled a 3B in the game.

2017 Daniel Aceves (Culver City, CA Culver City HS) had a very good game at the plate going 2-3 with a double.

2016 Greg Lamb (Orange, CA, El Modena HS) showed a quick bat that projects well and went 2-3 with a double in the game.

2016 Bradley Medina (Redondo, Beach, CA, South Torrance HS) has a nice smooth swing and showed the ability to hit to all fields.

2018 LHP Erik Tolman (Lake Forest, CA, El Toro HS) tossed three shutout innings allowing only 1 hit and is a projectable young lefty to follow.
8-Purple vs 9-TX Orange >>

8/17/2014 5:16:19 PM

OF Hikaru Watanabe (Hirakata, Hyogo, Japan) was very impressive for the Texas Orange team as he showed a smooth LH stroke with good bat speed and laced 2 doubles in the game.

Hisayoshi Hamazaki (Sagamihara, Kanagawa, Japan) struck out 5 batters in 3 innings using an 82-85 mph fastball that he commanded well.

2015 RHP Jairus Richards (Gig Harbor, WA, Bellarmine Prep) was also up to 85 mph for the Texas Orange team with a quick arm and also showed a sharp breaking ball.

2015 OF Andrew Shults (South Pasadena, CA South Pasadena HS) was the offensive standout for the purple teams as he really impressed with the bat going 3-4 with 2 triples.

2015 OF Ryan Eastburn (Harbor City, CA, Torrance HS) continues to have a good showcase with 2 hits in this game including a triple. 2015 Derek Reily (Anaheim, CA, El Dorado HS) and Dickie Brown (Long Beach, CA, Los Alamitos HS) also had 2 hits for the Purple team.
7-Orange vs 10-Vegas Gold >>

8/17/2014 2:16:12 PM

2017 Jayson Gonzalez (Azusa, CA, Bishop Amat HS) continues to really standout at the showcase. He drilled a line drive single that was 99 mph off the bat his 1st AB and later on had a double in the game.

2015 Charles Grant-Debose really impressed in the game last night and it continued today has doubled for the Orange team. Also was up to 83 mph on the mound.

2015 Brooks Stotler (Vista, CA, Rancho Buena Vista HS) has shown very good all around tools this weekend and was up to 84 mph on the mound this game.

2016 RHP Jose Campos (Winnetka, CA, El Camino Real HS) got the start for the Vegas Gold team and was up to 83 mph. He showed a clean arm action with deception and kept hitters off balance with multiple breking balls.
7- Orange vs 8- Purple Highlights >>

8/17/2014 1:50:11 AM

2015 OF Charles Grant-DeBose (Torrance, CA) made not only the highlight play of the day defensively when he robbed extra bases with a diving catch at full extension, but he followed it up in the bottom half of of the inning with a triple to left center. He also proved that neither end of that impressive inning was a fluke by picking up another hit in a 2-for-3 effort with two runs and covered a ton of ground in CF all game and made several tough plays look easy.

2015 MIF/RHP Tim Nelson (Chino Hills, CA) opened eyes on the mound with the tremendous movement he was able to impart on the baseball. He lived at 87 and topped out at 88 with his fastball, but more impressively it featured hard late short running action to the arm side. He backed it up with a 12-6 curveball that flashed bite at it's best in the low 70s and an upper 70s splitter which was a filthy offering. He struck out all six of the batters he faced.

2015 LHP Chris Davidson (La Canada, CA) showed good potential, with a clean arm action and a fastball that topped out at 84 mph, and he paired it with a deep breaking curve in the low 70s.

2015 MIF/OF Brooks Stolter (Vista, CA) showed off impressive speed, getting down the line in 4.19 seconds on a ground ball that he nearly beat out for an infield single in his first at-bat. He posted a nearly identical time down the line the second time up when he successfully legged out an infield hit.

2017 IF Jayson Gonzalez (Azusa, CA) made a highly impressive play coming in from third base. He has a big barrel chested frame, which would suggest that he's a below average athlete. As such, a runner attempted to drop down a bunt for a hit down the third base line with Gonzalez at third. He charged hard and came in to make a beautiful barehanded scoop and throw in one motion to nail the speedy runner. He also showed impressive ability with the bat in spite of an 0-for-2 showing, crushing a well struck at'em ball to center field.

2015 OF Ryan Eastburn (Harbor City, CA) went 2-for-3 with a couple hard hit balls, including one that came off the bat at 93 mph.

2015 MIF Derek Reilly (Anaheim, CA) went 0-for in the boxscore, but his double digit pitch battle made a big impression on the scouts in attendance. He took a fastball off his hand during the middle of the battle and didn't let the pain affect his ability to spoil quality offerings and stay alive. He eventually flew out with a loud fly ball (5.40 hangtime).

2015 MIF Dickie Brown (Long Beach, CA) went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base.

2015 RHP Matt Young (Corona, CA) struck out eight over four shutout innings while allowing just two hits in his start for the Orange team. He topped out at 84 and showed a sharp 75 mph slider that he used as his out pitch.
9-Texas Orange vs 10-Vegas Gold >>

8/16/2014 10:39:39 PM

After throwing very well last Friday night in the PG All American Game scrimmage 2015 RHP Jonathan Buckley (Chino, CA, Ruben S Ayala HS) threw very well tonight and struck out 8 batters in 3 innings. The 6'4 RHP was 84-87 with his fastball and showed a nasty splitter to go with it. Very uncomfortable swings against him.

2016 RHP Preston Price (Vista, CA, Cathedral Catholic HS) ran his fastball up to 88 mph and showed a sharp breaking ball as he struck out 5 in 2 innings.

2015 Christian Lynch (Chino Hills, CA, Brea-Olinda HS) doubled for the TX Orange team and 2015 Reid Lundeen (Laguna Niguel, CA, Dana Hills HS) impressed with the bat showing a nice swing and went 2-2 in the game.

2015 Nicholas Guaragna (Scottsdale, AZ, Chaparral HS) showed a nice smooth swing and had a hustle double in the game.
5-Maroon vs 6-Navy >>

8/16/2014 9:52:47 PM

2016 LHP Erik Miller (Wildwood, MO, De Smet Jesuit HS) was very impressive today starting for the Maroon team. The 6'4 lefty sat 86-89 mph in his 1st two innings with good life and big down hill plane. He also showed a sharp breaking curveball and commanded both his fastball and curveball well.
