2013 South Top and Underclass Showcases
Lachlan Mayo (2014 OF) had a pair of singles in the game forthe Navy team. He showed quick hands with a good bat path and squared the ballup.
Patch Healy (2014 1B) lead off the game for the Navy teamwith a homerun to left field. He showedgood bat speed with lift in it.
Zack Plunkett (2014 C) had a double in the game. He showedgood plate coverage with lift in his swing and the ability to drive the ball.
Tyler Ivey (2015 RHP) pitched from a high ¾ arm slot. Heshowed a plus fastball that sat 89-91 mph touched 92 mph. He showed a goodcurveball at 76 mph with 12-6 breaking action.
Hector Hernandez (2014 1B) had a two run homerun in the gamefor the Columbia Blue team. He showed lift in his swing with the ability todrive the ball.
CJ Collins (2014 3B) had a two run homerun in the game forthe Columbia Blue team. He showed good bat speed in his swing with a line driveswing plane.
Adrian Buruato (2014 C) had a pair of singles in the game.He showed a good bat path with quick hands and squared the ball upconsistently.
Columbia Blue and Cardinal tied 1-1. Sam Kraybill (2014,Stillwater, OK) stood out on the mound for Columbia Blue, throwing threeinnings of shutout baseball, with five strikeouts. He sat 80-84.
MatthewWilliams and Daniel Gibbons did well on the bump for Cardinal. Williams (2014,League City, TX) tossed three perfect innings, sitting 80-83. Gibbons (2014,Powderly, TX) allowed a single hit in his three frames while sitting 85-86.
Columbia Blue’s offense was highlighted by Dean Smith (2014,Prosper, TX) and CJ Collins (2014, Waco, TX). Both singled and drove the ballwell.
Stefan Szymankiewicz (2014, Flower Mound, TX) tripled for Cardinal.Matthew Currie (2014, League City, TX) singled.
Tommy Nawa (2014, McKinney, TX)was 0-2, but hit a hard lineout to center.
Red defeated Royal 3-1, led by the relief work of BrockNelson (2015, McKinney, TX) and Noah Mahoney (2015, Flower Mound, TX). Nelsonstruck out five over four innings, sitting 80-86. Mahoney punched out four intwo innings, topping out at 82.
Caleb Kyle (2015, Frisco, TX) stood outoffensively, with a well struck single.
Grant Gardner (2015, Double Oak, TX) ran his fastball up to83 in his four inning start for Royal, striking out four.
Tyler Starks (2015,Mesquite, TX) doubled and Jake Taylor (2017, Tecumseh, OK) singled.
DanielJones (2015, Coppell, TX) was 0-3, but drove the ball well.
Dark Green defeated Black 7-1, led by Jonathan Law’sstarting effort. Law (2015, El Paso, TX) struck out seven in four innings whilesitting 82-85, topping out at 86. He also singled and scored at the plate. Lawwas followed by Shane Lang (2016, Owasso, OK), who also struck out seven infour innings, topping out at 81.
Tyler Bowen (2016, Edmond, OK)closed the gameout with a perfect inning, sitting 81-82. The offense was led by Eric Cole(2015, Southlake, TX), who singled twice and reached on an error, and JakeMcKinnon (2016, Edmond, OK), who was 1-3, but made solid contact each time.
Kyle Landers (2017, Flower Mound, TX) showed good potentialby singling twice for Black. Blake LoCicero (2016, Madisonville, LA) singledand scored.
Stenfan Szymankiewicz (2014, OF, Flower Mound HS, Flower Mound TX) showed a nice loose swing with gap to gap approach, flashes bat speed and pop.
Reid Kjerstad (2014, OF/RHP, Randall HS, Amarillo, TX) flashes pull pop with a line drive swing plane and quick hands to the ball
Greg Smyers (2014, LHP/1B, South Grand Prairie HS, Grand Prairie, TX) shows quick hands to the ball and makes good consistent contact.
Josh Garbrecht (2014, SS/OF, Edmond North HS, Edmond, OK) has a strong lower half that generates good power to the opposite field.
Ethan Hallmark (2014, OF/IF, Midlothian HS, Midlothian, TX) has a simple gap to gap approach and line drive swing plane. Good hand path to the ball.
James Weeks (2014, OF, Churchill HS, San Antonio, TX) hits from a wide base with good bat speed and gap to gap pop. Has an athletic build.

Ryan Simon (2015, RHP,3B, OF, Round Rock, Round Rock, TX)- Alarge frame with plenty of room to build. He has a ¾ arm slot which allows himto get some arm side run on his ball. His fastball sat 84-88 mph with a sharpslider that was 75-79 mph. Simon went 4innings with 8 k’s, 0 hits, 0 runs, and 0 walks. Was impressed with how he was able to controlhis body and locate all of his pitches down in the zone for strikes. A good follow.
Trey Sledge (2015, RHP,1B, Coppell, Coppell, TX)- An extra large frame and build. With a high ¾ armslot he throws his fastball at 76-79 mph with a 67-68 mph curve ball and a70-72 mph change up. He was able to keepmost of the hitters off balanced and attacked the strike zone. He went 3 innings with 4 k’s and gave up 0 ERon 2 hits. He has a unique delivery thatallows him to deceive hitters, but is still consistent on his pitches.
Brock Anglin (2015, RHP,3B,1B, Episcopal School of Dallas,Dallas,TX)- A 6’6, 225 lb player who hit great in his second game of theday. He went 2-2 with a homerun and asingle. He still has more powerpotential in him for being a ’15 grad. He is a 3-4 type of hitter in the lineup who can drive in runs and gogap to gap with power. Displayed good plate discipline and never got cheatedout of a swing. Looks to be a goodfollow for his class.
Devin House (2016, 1B, 3B, RHP, Marcus, Flower Mound, TX)-An extra large frame and athletic build. He tossed a scoreless inning with astrikeout. His fastball sat 76-79 mphwith a 67-68 mph curve ball that had hard break at times. He has a short arm action that is accompaniedwith a low ¾ arm slot that allows him to have good arm side run on hisfastball.
Will Dawson (2015, 1B& P, Cy Fair, Cypress, TX)- Will struck both balls hard in his 2 AB's. Heshowed his opposite field strength when he hit 2 one hoppers to the shortstop.Moved well for his size allowing him to score from second on an infield error.
CodyAllen (2015, SS,RHP, Smithson Valley, Bulverde, TX)- A smooth shortstop showedoff his bat and speed in the second game today. He hit a line drivesingle over the second baseman's head and then got a great jump off a lefty tosteal second base.
LaelLockhart (2016, LHP,1B, OF, Friendswood, Friendswood, TX)- A tall, wiry frameleft handed pitcher sat 77-79 mph in his 3 innings of work. His curveball has a 12-6 look that sat 63-65 mph. He has clean mechanics and a fluidpitching motion. By locating his fastball on the inside and outer halfallowed him to go 3 innings with 1 hit and 1 ER.
AaronCardona (2016, LHP, OF, Bishop, Kingsville, TX)- A 5'8 145lb LHP went 4 inningswith 3 hits and 1 ER. He has a slingshot arm motion coming from a low 3/4 armslot. His fastball was 75-77 mph, while his slider was 65-66 mph and his changeup sat anywhere from 67-70 mph. By keeping his hitters off balance he wasable to go deep into the game for the Orange Team.
RossLowe (2015, C, Hebron, Lewisville, TX)- Lowe a switch hitting catcher, went 1-1with a hard single in his only AB for the day. He stole second off thefirst pitch he saw displaying his speed. He also showed good defensiveskills behind the plate for all 5 innings.
