Columbia Blue vs. Maroon Game Highlights >>

8/4/2013 9:47:17 PM

Jared Proctor, LHP, Bardstown, KY (2014) - Proctor showed perhaps the most polished arsenal of pitches among pitchers at the event this weekend. He worked mostly at 82-84 mph with his fastball, but also showed an outstanding late breaking curveball with superb 11-5 shape around 68 mph. He was able to consistently backdoor this pitch to righty batters and routinely buckle knees. He also showed feel for a 75 mph changeup.

Brent Stoneking, SS/RHP, Winchester, KY (2014) - The 5-foot-10 right-hander showed some of the event's best pure velocity, as he topped out at 87 mph, and lived consistently at 83-86 mph. His changeup, however, may have been his best weapon, showing forkball like downward action at 75-79 mph.

Jacob Abbott, SS/RHP, Lexington, KY (2016) - Abbott left the event as one of its most impressive position players, but he also made waves on the mound as well. Even as one of the event's younger players, Abbott showed a big fastball, working at 82-84 mph with good, late life. He also showed a hard, late biting curveball with 11-5 shape at 70 mph, as well as a 75 mph slider. He looks like a pitcher that will pick up a significant amount of velocity as he matures as well. He'll be a two-way player to watch very closely.

Zechariah Maulden, 3B/RHP, Bardstown, KY (2015) - Maulden reached 82 mph with his fastball, sitting mostly in the 80-81 mph range over the course of his outing. He varied his arm angle on both his fastball and breaking ball, netting him some additional movement in the process. His breaking ball gave righty hitters a significant amount of trouble as it showed sweeping action away at 67 mph.

Ford Schroeder, 2B/SS, Minneapolis, MN (2015) - Schroeder showed a sound approach at the plate as well as solid swing mechanics. He collected two hits in the final game of the showcase.

Batting Practice Highlights - Black/Cardinal >>

8/2/2013 9:52:00 PM

Daniel Neal, SS, South Laurel (2015) - Neal took an interesting round of batting practice that left people wanting more with the way he started and ended his round. The first 4-5 swings were loud, hard contact line drives to both gaps and centerfield. After over swinging on a couple, Neal used his last 2 swings to put the ball over the fence for no doubt home runs, the first of which cleared the bleachers in left field.

Justin Ammons, OF, Bartlett (2016) - One of the younger players at the event, Ammons showed a smooth left handed swing and showed the ability to squared up the ball pull side. He showed some power and should project for more as his lean frame fills out and his body matures.

Nathan Blake, 3B, Kenston, (2015) - Blake showed a controlled swing and a middle of the field approach. Throughout his round he showed a quick bat and as a result was able to generate some hard contact off the bat.

Bryan Soth, 1B, Arch Bishop Moeller (2015)
- Soth is strong, athletic right-handed batter who showed above average bat speed and some power potential in his BP round on Friday. He uses a small leg kick as trigger and gets on his back leg to drive the ball consistently. He'll be a hitter we are watching closely the remainder of the weekend.

John Malott, OF, Milford (2015) - Malott's tall, projectable frame makes him intriguing right off the bat, but his bat speed and up the middle and opposite field approach allowed him to jump to the top of the list of hitters who took BP on Friday. The ball was jumping off his bat and it looks like he's only going to improve with strength and maturity.

Tyler Krabbe, C/RHP/3B, Mason, (2015) - At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Krabbe boasts a powerful, mature frame and he uses it effectively in his swing. He drives with his lower half and produced impressive loft in his BP round to his pull side. He made consistent, hard contact and kept his swing very controlled and compact.
