-2014 RHP/INF Trevor Chaney (Pitman HS, Turlock, CA) scattered five hits over four innings and struck out six for the Teal team. Chaney topped out at 82 mph throwing from a deceptive low 3/4 arm slot with a sharp angle coming from the 3B side of the rubber that made it difficult for right handed hitters to pick up the ball out of his hand. His deep sweeping curveball sat in the mid 60s and he also mixed in a solid 71 mph changeup with good fading action to the arm side.

-After throwing well in the first half of the doubleheader, 2014 RHP Tanner Houck (Collinsville HS, IL) worked a 1-2-3 inning, giving him 5 shutout innings in a dominant day on the mound in which he allowed just one hit and pitched very efficiently. The 6' 5" righty was impressive on the mound today, working in the low 80s up to 83 mph with a low effort delivery.

-2013 C Alex Sniezek (Pitman HS, Turlock, CA) caught his HS teammate Chaney and impressed defensively with a couple of striong snap throws to 1B to pick off baserunners.

-2014 RHP/OF Richard Boe (St. Francis HS, San Carlos, CA) continued to stand out in every phase of the game, blasting a double to deep left center in his first AB. It's been a big weekend for Boe who topped out at 90 mph on the mound yesterday and has shown pop in his bat throughout the showcase.

Craig Stafford (RHP, Folsom HS, Folsom CA) had his fastball topping out at 78mph with it sitting at 73-77mph with his curveball at 65mph and his changeup at 67mph. Stafford has a slender build, with a long 2-piece arm action, 3/4 arm slot, elevates his fastball for strikes, big curveball with an 11-5 break to it. Stafford went 4 innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs and striking out 2 this morning.

Tanner Houck (RHP, Collinsville HS, Collinsville, IL) had his fastball top out at 83mph with it sitting at 79-83mph with his slider at 73mph. Houck has a tall lanky build, 3/4 arm slot, long arm action, gets extended, throws downhill, fastball has tailing action, slider has a good break, throws lots of strikes, works quick, good command of both pitches. Houck went 4 innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, while striking out 1.

-2014 RHP/OF Richard Boe (St. Francis HS, San Carlos, CA) took the mound to start the final game of the day, having set the bar very high for himself by standing out throughout the day. Boe did not disappoint when he finally took the mound, topping out at 90 mph with his fastball. He did allowed an unearned run on one hit over three impressive innings of work. His big deep curveball gave problems not only to opposing hitters, but also his catcher who missed a curveball for a passed ball that allowed the only opposing run to score. His upper 70s changeup also touched as high as 80 mph and was a very good change of pace pitch. Boe struck out the side and reached his top velocity in his third inning of work. He also hammered a double in his first trip to the plate, putting the finishing touches on a 2-for-3 day offensively.

-2014 OF Ryan McSwain (St. Francis HS, Redwood City, CA) had one of just two hits for the Crimson team, stroking an easy single in his second trip to the plate. The other hit came on an infield single off of Boe's glove by talented 2013 C/OF Daniel DJ Jackson (Amador Valley HS, Pleasanton, CA). Jackson would then steal second before being stranded at 3rd.

-2013 OF/RHP Phil Pendergast (South Bay Faith Academy, Manhatten Beach, CA) figured prominently into the box score as he not only drove in what proved to be the game winning run with an RBI double in the 2nd inning, he also threw two shutout innings to preserve the 2-1 Teal victory.  Pendergast allowed just one hit and faced the minimum (six hitters) and struck out one while topping out at 72 mph.

-2014 LHP/1B Jacob Corn (Manteca HS, CA) got the start for the Green team, throwing three shutout innings, scattering a pair of hits and mowing down an impressive 7 hitters. Corn showed a loose easy arm action and topped out at 83 mph with a low effort delivery and has a projectable arm and body. He showed a good three pitch mix that included a good mid 70s changeup with a lot of deception and a 1-7 curveball that topped out at 70 mph.

Corn was opposed by another impressive starting pitcher in a game that, unsurprisingly given the talent on the mound, turned out to be a pitcher's duel.

-2013 RHP Chase Chadband (Valley Christian HS, San Jose, CA) ran his fastball up to 86 mph and showed a very aggressive pitching aproch. The physical right hander challenged hitters early with fastballs up in the zone frequently, and showed an impressive mid 70s slider with sharp late break. He would throw it at right handed hitters and allow the break to take the ball back into the strike zone for called strikes consistently and opponents really struggled against the pitch. He also showed a 70 mph changeup to keep hitters off balance.

-One of the few offensive highlights was a deep triple by 2014 RHP/OF Richard Boe (St. Francis HS, San Carlos, CA) in his only at bat of the game in the 3rd inning. Boe would come around to score on an RBI single by 2014 OF/1B Bill Rockafeller (Del Oro HS, Loomis, CA).
Batting Practice Standouts >>

9/29/2012 10:50:12 PM

The highlight of the event's BP session was the multi-Home Run performance by 2014 C Tanner Ales (Oak Ridge HS, El Dorado Hills, CA). Ales blasted a rising liner over the left field fence on the first pitch he saw, he then added another shot out of Delta College later in his round. Ales showed good bat speed and strong wrists, with an ability to impart backspin on the ball with a line drive swing plane that allowed him to consistently hammer line drives deep into the outfield.

Other standouts included:

-2014 OF Ryan McSwain (St. Francis HS, Redwood City, CA) showed a smooth load, quick hands, good bat speed and an easy swing. He has a chance to develop good power over the next few years and is an underclassmen to watch going forward.

-2013 C/OF Daniel "DJ" Jackson (Amador Valley HS, Pleasanton, CA) showed good bat speed and raw power in his round of BP. He projects to hit for power, needs to develop better rhythm at the plate which can be an issue at times thanks to the moving parts to his swing, but they also allow him to generate a lot of momentum in his swing when he times it right and squares the ball up, allowing him to drive the ball with serious autbhority.

-2013 1B/C Will Lighthouse (Prospect HS, San Jose, CA) showed good bat speed and strength at contact. He has a hand hitch in his load that caused him to be late with his trigger but he made up for it well with good catch up bat speed. This should allow him to stay back on breaking pitches better in live action, though it is something he will need to iron out going forward in order to turn on balls and pull them in order to unlock his big raw power. The physical tools are impressive and he is an adjustment or two away from being a dangerous hitter.

-2014 RHP/OF Richard Boe (St. Frabncis HS, San Carlos, CA) showed big time power potential at the plate in spite of consistently hitting the ball on the ground. He starts with a high hand set causing a downward swing plane, but the bat speed and strength at contact are present to hit the ball out of the park with some loft. Boe has a big strong frame and also really impressed by throwing 92 mph from the OF in the workout, we look forward to seeing what he can do on the mound, as he appears to be a very good all around player.

-2014 MIF/OF Daryl Semien Jr (Burlingame HS, CA) showed a smooth easy swing with good hand speed. He showed a preference to pull the ball with a swing that begins with a smooth load from a high hand set and has the potential to develop some power as he matures physically. Good contact skills, athletic swing actions and a line drive swing plane.

2014 1B/3B Austin Bush (Turlock HS, CA) showed off good power, the ball jumped off his bat well with a long powerful swing that generates good bat speed, aggressive hitter.
