The highlight of the event's BP session was the multi-Home Run performance by 2014 C
Tanner Ales (Oak Ridge HS, El Dorado Hills, CA). Ales blasted a rising liner over the left field fence on the first pitch he saw, he then added another shot out of Delta College later in his round. Ales showed good bat speed and strong wrists, with an ability to impart backspin on the ball with a line drive swing plane that allowed him to consistently hammer line drives deep into the outfield.
Other standouts included:
-2014 OF
Ryan McSwain (St. Francis HS, Redwood City, CA) showed a smooth load, quick hands, good bat speed and an easy swing. He has a chance to develop good power over the next few years and is an underclassmen to watch going forward.
-2013 C/OF
Daniel "DJ" Jackson (Amador Valley HS, Pleasanton, CA) showed good bat speed and raw power in his round of BP. He projects to hit for power, needs to develop better rhythm at the plate which can be an issue at times thanks to the moving parts to his swing, but they also allow him to generate a lot of momentum in his swing when he times it right and squares the ball up, allowing him to drive the ball with serious autbhority.
-2013 1B/C
Will Lighthouse (Prospect HS, San Jose, CA) showed good bat speed and strength at contact. He has a hand hitch in his load that caused him to be late with his trigger but he made up for it well with good catch up bat speed. This should allow him to stay back on breaking pitches better in live action, though it is something he will need to iron out going forward in order to turn on balls and pull them in order to unlock his big raw power. The physical tools are impressive and he is an adjustment or two away from being a dangerous hitter.
-2014 RHP/OF
Richard Boe (St. Frabncis HS, San Carlos, CA) showed big time power potential at the plate in spite of consistently hitting the ball on the ground. He starts with a high hand set causing a downward swing plane, but the bat speed and strength at contact are present to hit the ball out of the park with some loft. Boe has a big strong frame and also really impressed by throwing 92 mph from the OF in the workout, we look forward to seeing what he can do on the mound, as he appears to be a very good all around player.
-2014 MIF/OF
Daryl Semien Jr (Burlingame HS, CA) showed a smooth easy swing with good hand speed. He showed a preference to pull the ball with a swing that begins with a smooth load from a high hand set and has the potential to develop some power as he matures physically. Good contact skills, athletic swing actions and a line drive swing plane.
2014 1B/3B
Austin Bush (Turlock HS, CA) showed off good power, the ball jumped off his bat well with a long powerful swing that generates good bat speed, aggressive hitter.
