NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SHOWCASE TOP PROSPECT LIST
1. SS Andre Gregory (2013/Jesuit HS, Sacramento, CA): The 6-2/170 Gregory has outstanding defensive actions in the middle infield and a pro level arm right now. His bat still has a ways to go but he keeps his swing short and crisp and showed some power potential in games.
2. OF Ryan Kirby (2013/Granada HS, Livermore, CA): Kirby is a pure hitter from the left side with a smooth, effortless swing and very good bat speed, especially when pulling the ball. He’s just going to get stronger and better as he fills out his 6-2/175 frame.
3. C Dempsy Grover (2013/Beyer HS, Modesto, CA): Grover has a broad backed 6-0/185 build that contains lots of present strength. He has a well schooled swing and the ball jumps off his bat hard with potential plus power. Grover also popped down to 1.88 in drills.
4. RHP Robert Schauer (2012/Downey HS, Modesto, CA): Schauer has a very slender build but is athletic and projectable. He threw 84-86 with his fastball and his low 70’s curveball had serious bite at times. He’s going to add velocity.
5. 1B/OF/RHP Chris Iriart (2012/Chino Hills HS, Chino Hills, CA): Iriart was one of the strongest players at the event with a cut 6-2/205 build and does everything well on the field. He has strength in his right handed swing, threw 90 mph from the outfield and topped out at 85 mph with a hard spinning curveball on the mound.
6. 1B Eriksen Dickens (2013/Oakdale HS, Oakdale, CA): The 6-3/205 Dickens has one tool and it’s a very good tool that plays at the next level. He’s a very aggressive right handed hitter with strength and bat speed and squares up the ball very consistently.
7. IF/RHPAndy Morris (2012/Oakdale HS, Oakdale, CA): Dickens’ Oakdale HS teammate is another versatile athlete who played the left side of the infield with athleticism, swung the bat well and showed a loose arm on the mound up to 85 mph.
8. OF Justin Bruce (2013/Willow Glen HS, San Jose,CA): Bruce was the fastest player at the showcase at 7.02 on a mysteriously slow turf track. He has a physical 6-1/185 frame with good strength and has bat speed, along with the ability to throw 83 mph off the mound.
9. C Zachary Raczok (2012/Claremont HS, Claremont,CA): Raczok is a high energy catcher who took over the games on defense, called a good game and showed solid, repeatable fundamentals throwing the ball. He has the strength to hit with some simple adjustments.
10. IF/RHP Michael Strem (2013/St. Francis HS,Burlingame, CA): Strem is a primary middle infielder but looked better at this event on the mound, topping out at 85 mph with good feel for his secondary pitches. He shows strength with the bat but has to become more consistent with his swing mechanics and approach.

OF Ryan Kirby (2013/Granada HS, CA) really swung the bat well, driving a double and triple up the right centerfield alley in his first two at bats, just crushing the ball. He tends to give up his hands a bit on pitches on the outside half but really got them through well on the inside half.
1B Eriksen Dickens (2013/Oakdale HS, CA) is hyper aggressive, swinging and connecting with the first pitch in 3 at bats, but he squares up the ball and hits it hard.
C Dylan Isquirdo (2013/Foothill HS, CA) is a strong right handed hitter with a quick line drive swing and hit the ball hard from gap to gap.
SS Andre Gregory (2013/Jesuit HS, CA) blasted a ball over the centerfielder's head during the second game and legged it out for a triple. IF Daryl Semien Jr. (2013/San Mateo HS, CA) did the same thing up the left centerfield alley.
C Dempsy Grover (2013/Beyer HS, CA) has a very mature approach at the plate to go with next level strength and bat speed. He was very patient with his hands on one curveball, staying inside the ball and spanking a hard line drive into right centerfield.

Although there were 3 teams worth of players, they were combined into 2 teams for game action and played 2 games totaling 15 innings. Here are some of the pitching highlights.
RHP Robert Schauer (2012/Downey HS, CA) topped out at 86 mph from a deceptive big leg raise delivery. His best pitch was a hard spinning 71-73 mph curveball that overmatched a couple of hitters.
RHP Dominic Bethancourt (2014/Folsom HS, CA) showed nice arm strength for a sophomore, topping out at 82 mph with a loose easy arm that projects to add plenty more velo.
RHP Michael Huss (2014/Argonaut HS, CA) was another sophomore who showed good arm strength, also topping out at 82 mph. Huss was still young in knowing how to mix up his pitches but flashed an interesting true slider and a big breaking curveball that both show promise.
1B/RHP Chris Iriart (2012/Chino Hills HS, CA) was steady at 84-85 mph on the mound and snapped off some sharp curveballs at 67-70 mph from an overhand release point. He has 2-way potential at the college level.
LHP Conyal Cody (2013/Pacific Grove HS, CA) has a very athletic 6-2/170 build and a loose left arm that touched 83 mph early. He still has work to do on his breaking ball and pitchability but should throw hard in the future.

OF Ryan Kirby (2013/Granada HS, CA) has an easy, loose swing from the left side and good present bat speed and projects well with his 6-2/175 frame.
OF Matt Loscavio (2012/Tracy HS, CA): Loscavio has a tall, narrow stance that calls to mind Evan Longoria. When his front foot timing is on target he has some whippy bat speed and makes solid line drive contact, especially when pulling the ball.
C Dempsy Grover (2013/Beyer HS, CA): Grover has very good strength in his 6-0/185 frame and has a loose, extended swing with good bat speed. He has very sound basic hitting mechanics that he repeats well.
1B Eriksen Dickens (2013/Oakdale HS, CA): Dickens is big and strong at 6-3/205 and has a very aggressive approach at the plate that creates bat speed and consistent hard pull contact.
IF Daryl Semien Jr (2013/San Mateo HS, CA): Semien has a loose, easy swing with a bit of lift and separation out front. He squared the ball up almost every swing and owned the LCF alley.
SS Andre Gregory (2013/Jesuit HS, CA): Gregory's hitting skills don't match his defensive skills, which is not surprising, but he did show some strength in his hands and the ability to keep his swing short and crisp.
1B Chris Iriart (2012/Chino Hills HS, CA): Iriart is very strong at a cut 6-2/200 and the strength comes through in his right handed swing. His best contact was when he got his hands out and drove the RCF alley.

There were a couple of very strong outfield arms on display during outfield drills, although ironically the two strongest aren't primary outfielders.
SS Andre Gregory (2013/Jesuit HS, CA) didn't have outfielder's footwork but has such a strong arm that he registered 90 mph a couple of times essentially throwing flat footed.
1B Chris Iriart (2012/Chino Hills HS, CA) throws from a loose, over the top release point and was 89-90 mph with very good on line carry on all his throws to home plate.
Other Top Velo's included:
OF Devon Denholm (2012/Tracy, CA) 85 mph
OF Justin Bruce (2013/Willow Glen HS, CA) 83 mph
RHP Dominic Bethancourt (2013/Folsom HS, CA) 83 mph
RHP Matthew Huss (2014/Argonaut HS, CA) 82 mph
OF Ryan Kirby (2013/Granada HS, CA) 81 mph

SS Andre Gregory (2013/Jesuit HS, CA) showed outstanding arm strength, throwing up to 89 mph with smooth and easy actions through the ball. He looks like he could emerge as one of the top defensive middle infielders in the 2013 class.
3B Andy Morris (2012/Oakdale HS, CA) had smooth actions in drills and threw 82 mph across the infield. He look pretty solid at shortstop during game action as well.
SS Nicholas Stoll (2012/Fresno HS, CA) showed athleticism and quick feet in the infield with a quick low release that worked well when he was charging threw the ball
11/12/2011 5:38:09 PM
