At the Charlotte County Complex today the Fajardo Cariduros(Puerto Rico) needed a walk off single to break the 2-2 tie in the bottom ofthe 6th inning for a 3-2 victory over the Florida Burn (17U). JoelAlmonte (2012, Coninental Academy, PR) lead off the bottom of the 6thwith a single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice by Kenneth Rodriguez(2012, University, PR) after reaching 3rd on a wild pitch RobertMateo (2012, University, PR) drove in pinch runner Abraham Lanzo (Fajardo, PR)with the game winning run. For the Cariduros Jean Avila (Fajardo, PR) was 1-3 witha triple and a run scored.
For the Burn catcher Grant Hodges (2013, East Lake HS, FL)was 2-2 at the plate with a solo home run. Hodges displayed a quick bat andpower potential while showing he can be a middle of the order run producer.
On Saturday afternoon at the Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training facilitythe St. Pete Stars defeated the SWFL Underclass 4-1. The Stars were lead by 3and 4 hitters Ian Smith (2013, St. Petersburg HS, FL) and Nicholas Andre (2012St. Petersburg HS, FL). Smith went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a runscored. Andre who was also 2-3, hit a double and drove in 2 runs. Justin Kramer(2013, Osceola HS, FL) shined on the mound for the stars by throwing 78% strikesin 6 innings while allowing 3 hits, an unearned run, and striking out 2 to earnthe win. Nicholas Andre pitched a perfect 7th to earn his secondsave of the day.
For SWFL Underclass Spencer Hobby (2013, Fort Myers HS, FL)went a perfect 1-1 with an RBI.
The St. Pete Stars scored all of their 5 runs in the 4thinning as they defeated the Players Edge Cobras 5-4 Saturday morning at theCharlotte County Complex. The biggest hit of the game came from Ricardo Rivera(2014, St. Petersburg HS, FL) as he came up with a bases loaded triple to drivein 3 runs to make it 4-0 and then came around to score the 5th runon a throwing error. In the top of the 7th Players Edge Cobras cutthe lead to 5-4, but Nicholas Andre (2012, St. Petersburg HS, FL) came in toget the final two outs and earn the save.
For Players Edge Cobras Koby Pepia (2014, West Boca HS, FL)went 1-4 with a double and a run scored.
SCORE International (17U) pitcher Jose Pupo (2013 Leto HS,FL) fired a 1 hit shutout in the teams 3-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Warriors(18U) Saturday morning. Pupo, who showedgood command with all his pitches, went 7 innings, allowing 1 hit, walking 1,and striking out 7. SCORE International jumped out early to a 3-0 lead after 2innings and never looked back.
At the plate for SCORE International, Zach Hessinger (2013,Cambridge Christian School, FL) showed good bat speed and a fluid stroke to go2-3 with a triple and a stolen base. Alabama recruit Nick Eicholtz (2013,Berkeley Preparatory HS, FL) showed good plate coverage by going 1-2 at theplate with and RBI and a run scored.
For the Warriors Tommy Lynch (2013, Alonso HS, FL) went 1-2with a single.
Jacob Reimer (2013, Gainesville HS, FL) Zack Money (2014,Madison County HS, FL) and Anthony Mazzurco (2013, Ocala Forest HS, FL)combined to shutout the Central Florida Crushers 4-0 this afternoon at TerryPark.
2014 grad Zack Money pitched 2 innings of 1 hit relief forthe Hardballers. Money worked 80-85 with his fastball striking out one.
Louisville recruit Tucker Neuhaus (2013, Tampa Wherton HS,FL) used his large, projectable frame to drive the ball and go 2-2 at the platewith a double and 2 runs scored.
