Orlando Scorpions Underclass Purple was outhit 8 to 10, but they were able to beat Scott Benedict Baseball 6-4 in seven innings at Terry Park, Brett on Sunday. RHP Andrew Karp (2014, West Orange HS, Windermere, FL) with his smooth delivery had a solid outing as he pitched 4 innings allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 ER, 1 BB, while striking out 1. Karp threw a lot of strikes with his fastball which averaged 83-86 mph and topped out at 88 mph. Scott Benedict's Micheal Chambers (2012, Boca Raton HS, Boca Raton, FL) showed solid mechanics as he pitched 4 innings, while allowing 4 hits, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB. Chambers was able to strike out 3 with mixing his pitches between a fastball, curveball, change-up and cutter. Chambers was able to pitch effectively inside with his fastball, which averaged 78-81 mph and peaked at 83 mph.
Offensively, the Scorpions were able to score 6 runs on 8 hits. Top prospect John Jones (2014, East River HS, Orlando, FL) used his high energy to go 2-for-2 with 5 RBI's, 2 doubles, and 1 BB. Jones continues to stay hot as he went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's in the Scorpions' last game vs. the Suncoast Reebok 17U. Jones has a good eye with raw power. Defensively, Jones blocks balls in the dirt very well. He has good arm strength and likes to throw. Austin Hogan (2014, Boone HS, Orlando, FL) added two hits of his own as he went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored. Carl Chester (2014, Lake Brantley HS, Longwood, FL) with his open stance went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
Scott Benedict scored 4 runs on 10 hits. Gage Morey (2013, Wellington HS, Wellington, FL) went 2-for-4 with 1 run scored. Joe Shue (2013, Palm Beach Central HS, West Palm Beach, FL) had a good day at the plate as he went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI and 1 BB. Danny Hernandez (2014, Palm Beach Central HS, Lake Worth, FL) went a perfect 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and 1 BB. Hernandez was impressive defensively as he showed his solid defensive tools and his good arm.
