The final day of the Northeast Underclass was forced indoors due to unplayable field conditions. Pitchers that had not previously pitched threw a bullpen for the scouts and there was also an optional batting practice session. Here are the arms that stood out today.
Ryan Testani (Orange #21) was only up to 81 but he has a tall and well-proportioned body and a loose and clean arm action. He creates a good angle on his fastball and it's heavy when down; his curveball has hard, downer action on it.
Evan Flanagan (Royal #2) has a strong, sturdy body and a clean delivery. His low 80's fastball comes out of his hand well and his slider has good shape.
After showing big arm strength (90 mph) in the outfield, Mac Crispino (Steel #11) was 82-84 on the mound. He has a lightning quick arm but is still learning how to use the rest of his body as he needs to be much more aggressive with his lower half. His slider has late action with tilt and his change also showed some late fade.
Will Jahn (Steel #22) has a strong, physical build and shows very good arm strength. He was consistently 85-86, touching 87, with a heavy, riding fastball. He has a long whippy arm action and a mid-to-low 3/4 release. His curve had plus action at times but his arm slot and arm action are more conducive to a slider. His change up showed some promise and he should continue to polish that pitch.
David MacKinnon (Steel #19) has a long sweeping arm action and was 81-84 with his fastball. He showed some good stuff as his fastball had good riding life, what he called a curve was actually a plus slider at times with tilt, what he called a slider was a good cutter with late action, and his forkball had hard tumble at the plate.
Skylar Mercado (Vegas Gold #12) has a very fast arm that works well and his fastball was 81-83. His slider had solid shape but his most interesting pitch was a knuckleball that flashed action that would give Doug Mirabelli some trouble.

His ball jumped out of his hands with his FB topping at 84 and paired that with a solid tight spinning 12-6 CB that he had very good feel for. In his first inning of relief he struck out the side and ended his 2 inning outing with 4 K's.
Kyle Simmons (2013) OF, 1B from West Friendship, MD had a 2 hit game for the Gold team. Simmons had an athletic build with a no motion preset in the box. Not much changed in his swing when he started with a minimal load and easy flat bat path swing. He was a very solid contact hitter.

He hides the ball well but has some simple adjustments to make to his delivery that add to his projection. The young lefty already shows a solid idea of how to pitch with his low 80's fastball.
Michael Tommila (Black #22) has a a sturdy build and still has room for strength. He shows good arm strength, hides the ball well with his short, high arm circle, keeps the ball low and is aggressive with his fastball that was up to 85.

Zach Sterry (Steel #15) showed enough raw power in BP to make the blogs but he showed a much better overall approach in gameplay going 3-for-3 with a double and a ringing triple to the right center gap. He was also comfortable going to the opposite field as two of his three hits went to left field.
