2011 Sunshine West Showcase Top Prospect

Here is an early look at the top prospects from this weekends Sunshine West Showcase. A more complete list will follow after all of the scouting notes have been compiled and reports have been completed.


Lucas Giolito – 2012 – RHP – Santa Monica, CA – HarvardWestlake HS – Giolito looked like a potential first round pick in hisouting.  The big right hander throws iteasy and the ball jumps out of his hand. He sat at 93 MPH with his fastball with good down plane and arm side runto it.  He also showed a sharp slider forstrikes.

CJ Saylor – 2012 – C/RHP – West Covina, CA – South Hills HS– Saylor is a top level defensive catcher with advanced catch and throwtools.  He threw 84 MPH with a 1.83 poptime in the workout.  Saylor threw 86-88MPH from the mound with a loose quick arm action. 

Stephen Gonsalves – 2013 – LHP/OF – San Marcos, CA –Cathedral Catholic HS – Gonsalves sat at 87-89 with his fastball and touched 90MPH.  He has a deceptive delivery and theball comes out of his hand clean. Gonsalves also showed a good swing with good bat speed with pullsidepop.

Adrian De Horta – 2013 – RHP – La Puente, CA – South Hills HS– DeHorta is a tall projectable RHP with an 86-89 MPH fastball touching 90MPH.  The ball comes out of his handclean and his velocity projects.  He’s ahigh level follow for the 2013 class.

Brent Wheatley – 2012 - RHP – Villa Park, CA – OrangeLutheran HS – Wheatley has a big 6-4/215 lb body that projects.  He uses a short quick arm action withprojectable velocity.  Wheatley has asharp overhand 12/6 CB with bite.

Bobby Zarubin – 2012 – SS/RHP – San Diego, CA – Santa FeChristian HS-Zarubin is an athletic player running a 6.86 60 yard dash and alsothrew 89 MPH across the infield.  Heshowed athletic actions defensively and a good swing with bat speed at theplate.  Zarubin also looked good on themound pitching at 86-88 MPH.

Joe Munoz – 2012 – MIF – Hacienda Heights, CA – Los AltosHS-Munoz has an athletic build, solid defensive actions plus carry, threw 86across diamond, glove plays, at the plate shows athletic swing with bat speedand good bat control, ran a 6.91.

Daniel Robertson – 2012 – 3B – Upland, CA – Upland HS-Robertson showed great defensive actions during the work out and continue hisoutstanding play during the game, showing soft hands and a quick transfer andrelease, he threw 87 across the diamond, showed good bat speed with line driveswing plane at the plate.

Chase DeJong-2012-RHP/OF-Long Beach, CA-Woodrow Wilson HS-DeJonghas an athletic build, good arm strength, threw 91 from the OF and topped outat 90 on the mound, was in control of game during his outing throwing a 11-5curveball consistently for strikes to go with his fastball.

Gosuke Katoh – 2013 – MIF – Poway, CA – Rancho Bernardo HS –Katoh is an athletic defensive player with real good actions and a very quickrelease.  He ran a 6.69 60 and showed batspeed at the plate.

Kiko Garcia – 2014 – RHP – Chula Vista, CA – St. AugustineHS – Garcia showed good arm speed with a clean arm action on the mound.  He gets good down plane on his fastball andhis velocity projects.  He’s a good youngfollow for 2014.

Ian Clarkin – 2013 – LHP – San Diego, CA – James Madison HS– Clarkin has a loose quick arm action combined with a deceptive delivery.  The ball comes out of his hand clean and hepounds the strike zone with his 88 MPH fastball.

Charles Moorman – 2012 – C – Lakeside, CA – El Capitan HS –Moorman showed advanced catch and throw tools as well as advanced receivingskills.  He has good arm strength andconsistently puts his throws on the base. Moorman also showed good bat speed with a good approach at the plate.

PJ Conlon – 2012 – LHP – Placentia, CA – El Dorado HS –Conlon showed very good pitchability throwing three pitches for strikes.  His fastball was at 85-88 MPH with goodarmside run.  Conlon showed good feel forhis curveball and change up as well.

Tim Willittes – 2013 – RHP –Scottsdale, AZ – Desert Mountain HS – Willittes is a projectable 6-5/200 lb.RHP.  He uses a balanced low effortdelivery and his arm works well.  Hisvelocity projects and should be followed closely for velocity gains.

Steve Carr – 2011 – RHP – Escondido, CA – San Pasquale HS –Carr showed arm strength from a clean arm action at 83-86 MPH.  He threw a good 11/5 slider for strikes andshowed good feel for it.

Dillon Jackson – 2013 – LHP/1B – Scottsdale, AZ – ChapparalHS – Jackson touched 87 MPH with his fastball with a clean arm action.  He also has a 1/7 curveball and developingchange up that shows promise.  He alsohas a sound swing and swings on a line drive plane.  The ball jumps some and he has good batspeed.

Colin Winters – 2013 – OF/LHP – Carlsbad, CA - La CostaCanyon HS-Winters has a strong physical body and projects.  He has big time pop at the plate with verygood bat speed.  He also pitched at 82-85MPH with a clean arm action.  Good followfor 2013.

Preston Scott – 2012 – 3B – Hanford, CA – Hanford HS - Scott showed big time bat speed with goodpop.  He showed big power potential aswell.  Scott showed good defensiveactions too.

Reggie Southall – 2012 – MIF – Inglewood, CA – Serra HS -Southallhas good actions at SS with a quick release. He also showed good bat speed with a line drive swing path.

John Gamble – RHP/3B-Escondido, CA-Santa Fe Christian-Gamblehas an athletic frame, short to baseball and good extension through it, ran a6.75 and threw 86 from the OF.

Parker Bugg – 2013 – RHP – San Diego, CA – Rancho BernardoHS-Bugg has a lean projectable build, velocity projects well, topped at 86.

David Oppenheim-2012-OF-Mercer Island, WA-Mercer Island HS-Oppenheimshowed good pope from the left side, good bat speed and the ball really jumpedoff his bat at times, he also ran 6.84.

Corey Oswalt – 2012 – 3B – San Diego, CA – James Madison HS -Veryathletic defensive actions, projects more of 3B than SS at the next level,threw 92 across diamond, he showed good bat speed and pop at the plate.

Ty France – 2012 – 3B-West Covina, CA-South Hills HS-Showedgood bat speed at the plate, aggressive approach, makes consistent solidcontact, defensively, has nice defensive actions, glove plays, has quick hands,quick transfer and release.

Vahn Bozoian – 2012 – OF-Chino Hills, CA-Ayala HS-Plus athleticbuild, showed good bat speed, has solid contact to all fields, defensively goodarm strength throwing 92 from the OF and 91 from 1B, the ball really carriesout of his hand.

Niko Contreras – 2013 – OF-Glendora, CA-Glendora HS-Leanprojectable build, solid defensive actions, threw 87 from the OF with carry,showed a nice opposite field approach during BP, stayed inside the ball well.

Dalton DiNatale -2012-3B/SS-Parkland, FL-Calvary ChristianAcademy-Has strength in swing, solid pull contact, shows good bat speed, goodactions on the INF, comes through well, threw 89 across diamond and ran a 6.87.

David Carpenter  -2014 –LHP – Oceanside, CA – Calvary Christian HS – Young frame, sat in the low80’s on the mound topping out at 85, will be fun to watch develop.

CJ Burdick – 2013 – RHP – San Diego, CA – Serra HS – Goodarm speed, sat mid 80’s topping at 86, showed a nice 11/5 curveball with goodspin, has feel for change up.

Austin Cipres – 2012 – OF/RHP – Murrieta, CA – MurrietaValley HS – Athletic with a strong arm threw showcase best 93 from OF to homeduring work out, should a quick short swing to the ball, makes solid contact.

Carter Johnson – 2013 – OF – Lean athletic, good defensiveactions, clean arm, ball comes out well and has good carry, threw 88 from OF,short to ball with good extension, shows bat speed.

The followinball, g players stood out for the red team during BP at Eastlake High School

Charles Moorman (2012, C/3B, El Capitan HS, CA)  Aggressive approach, gets through the baseball well, has good bat speed and hit the ball hard.

Garrett Gandolfo (2012, 1B/OF, Steele Canyon HS, CA)  Good frame, aggressive swing, big lift, plus pop, ball really jumped off his bat, showed good bat speed and extension.

Corey Oswalt (2012, 3B, James Madison HS, CA)  Oswalt finished off a solid weekend by showing good bat speed and making consistent solid contact, he gets extend through the baseball and has pop to all fields.

The following players stood out for the Navy team during batting practice at Eastlake HS.

Gosuke Katoh (2013, MIF, Rancho Bernardo HS, CA)  Has quick hands, short to baseball, shows bat speed and gets extended through baseball.

Myles Jefferson (2012, 1B/RHP, Morningside HS, CA)  Has a lean frame with room to fill out, good bat speed, line drive swing blane, good balance and extension.

The following players stood out for the Maroon Team's batting practice at Southwestern College.

David Oppenheim (2012, OF, Mercer Island HS, WA)  Oppenheim hits from a wide base, good pull pop, line drive sing plane with good bat speed, the ball jumps off his bat when centered.

Bobby Zarubin (2012, INF, Santa Fe Christian HS, CA)  Good solid frame, has strength in swing, hit the ball hard during BP, showed good bat speed.

The following players stood out during BP for the Purple team at Southwestern College.

Christopher Johnson (2012, OF/2B, Henderson NV)  Athletic build, short to baseball, has strength in siwng, stays behind baseball well shows good bat speed.

Spencer Jeffreys (2012, 3B/OF, Eastlake HS, CA)  Aggressive pull approach, good bat speed, hits from wide base, strength in swing.

The following players stood out during BP for the Green team at Eastlake HS.

Andrew Solomon (2013, C/OF, La Costa Canyon HS, CA)  Switch hitter, from the right side, shows a good line drive approach with good bat speed, balanced through out, from the left side has a nice swing with bat speed.

Joshua Bailey (2012, OF/LHP, Bret harte HS, CA) Solid build, pull approach with good pop, shows good bat speed.

Dylan Alexander (2013, C/1B, Simi Valley HS, CA)  solid frame, easy swing with good extension, balanced, easy bat speed, mostly mid field contact.

Eric Tu (2012, RHP/OF, California HS, CA)  Nice build, shows good bat speed ad extension, gets hands into good hitting position, gap to gap line drives.

The Following players stood out for the gold teams batting practice at Eastlake High School.

Joe Munoz (2012, SS, Los Altos HS, CA) Athletic build, knee lift trigger, aggressive approach, shows good bat speed, line drive swing plane with lift with some pull pop.

Daniel Robertson (2012, 3B/INF, Upland HS, CA)  Nice balanced swing, aggressive approach, shows good bat speed, has gap to gap pop.

The following players stood out during batting practice for the Crimson Team at Southwestern College.

Grayson Pratt (2012, RHP, La Cueva HS, NM)  Medium build, shows good bat speed, relaxed, aggressive approach, line drive swing plane.

D.J. Lewis (2014, OF, West Hills HS, CA) Athletic build with room to fill out, has good hands, stays inside baseball, good bat speed, line drive swing plane, he will be fun to watch the next few years.

Preston Scott (2012, MIF, Hanford HS, CA) Big strong build, upright stance, good bat speed, ball jumps off bat, good balance and extension.

The following players stood out during batting practice for the Columbia Blue Team at Southwestern College.

Dillon Jackson (2013, LHP/1B, Chaparral HS, AZ) Nice build, toe tap trigger, shows good bat speed, with pull pop, the ball really comes off his bat well.

Vincent Mori (2013, MIF, Westview HS, CA)  Mori has an aggressive approach, line drive swing plane with lift, has good balance and extension through the baseball, consistently hit the ball hard.

Colin Winters (2013, Of/LHP, La Costa Canyon HS, CA) Winters had a very impressive BP session, showed a nice left handed swing with great lift, hit multiple home runs to right field, the ball really jumped off his bat.

Stephen Gonsalves (2013, LHP/OF, Cathedral Catholic HS, CA)  Gonsalves followed up winters and you may have thought they were the same player, as Gonsalves also showed a great left handed swing, has bat speed and pop to right field, he also dropped a few HR's over the right field wall.

Green

Anthony Fernandez (2012, 1B, Mission Hills HS, CA) went 2 for 2 with a stolen base, he has a lean build, shows good bat speed and an aggressive approach.

Andrew Soloman (2013, C/OF, La Costa Canyon HS, CA) went 1-2 with a double, the switching hitting catcher showed signs of being able to swing from both sides, shows good bat speed from the right side and some pop to the left, though not as much bat speed.

Jared Mattera (2012, RHP, Moorpark HS, CA) threw three innings, topping at 86, has quick arm, throws strikes, and repeats his delivery well, his curveball has depth and sits in the low 70's range topping at 72.

Navy

Gosuke Katoh (2013, MIF, Rancho Bernardo HS, CA) went 2 for 3 on the day, has a solid swing plane and bat speed, has good base running instincts.

Graham Gomez (2012, OF, Santa Fe Christian HS, CA) also went 2 for 3, switch hitter, uses the middle of the field well and shows ability to go other way.

Michael Martin (2013 - San Diego, CA) pitched at 84-86 MPH with his fastball and touched 87 MPH.  He uses a long arm action with good arm speed.  Martin throws a deceptive change up at 77-79 MPH with some sink on it.  He showed an 11/5 curveball with tight spin that projects to get better.  Martin throws 3 pitches for strikes and showed good pitchability.  He also showed some bat speed at the plate with a hard double.  He's a good follow for the 2013 class.

CJ Burdick (2013 - San Diego, CA) pitched at 83-86 MPH with his fastball.  The lanky 6-5/181 lb. right hander showed good arm strength and his arm works.  Burdick showed a change up with nice sink on it at 74 MPH.  With a few adjustments, his velocity could really jump.  He's a good follow for the 2013 class.

Brock Larson (2012 - Rancho Santa Fe, CA) had a couple hits for the Teal Team.  He showed some bat speed and squared it up.

Dallas Thomas (2013 - San Diego, CA) showed good balance in his swings.  He hit a hard double down the line with solid contact.

Garrett Anctil (2011, C, Clovis HS, CA) went 1-3 with 2 runs scored and a home run, has a nice line drive swing with late lift, showed pop during BP also.

Anders Schraer (2013, OF, St Francis HS, CA) went 1-2 with a double and run scored, nice swing plane with good extension through the baseball.

Tanner Gage (2012, RHP, Albuquerque Academy, NM) pitched 3 innings sitting in the 81-83 range topping at 85, he has a big projectable build with current strength, repeats his delivery well, his curveball sat at 73-76 and shows good potential.

Gold

Joe Munoz (2012, SS, Los Altos HS, CA) went 1-3 with a triple, has a simple swing with good bat speed, he lined out to short in his second at bat that registered 91 off the bat, he continued his solid defensive play in the field make all the plays, good all around player. He also pitched, sitting in the 85-88 range topping out at 89.

Eddie Schueber (2012, RHP, Regis Jesuit HS, CO) pitched 3 innings sitting in the mid 80's topping at 85, good frame, repeats delivery, good arm saction, has feel for 71 MPH curveball.

Michael Dlugos (2012, OF, South Hills HS, CA) went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, has a balanced swing, mid field approach, gets extended through baseball.

Chase DeJong (2012, RHP, Woodrow Wilson HS, CA) DeJong was in total control for his outing using a nice mix of 87-90 MPH fastball and a 76 MPH curveball to keep hitters off balance, the two way prospect also had a hard line out that registered at 91 off the bat.  On the mound, he has an lean athletic build with room to add strength, has an easy arm action and threw his curveball for strikes, he had great feel for his curveball that he threw for strikes all day.

Crimson

Preston Scott (2012, MIF, Hanford HS CA) Scott went 2-3 with a run scored, he has a quick powerful swing smoking two baseballs, one which read 96 off the bat on the radar screen, he showed the same power swing during BP.

Drew Lutzke (2012, C, Agoura HS, CA)  also went 2-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI's, he makes solid contact, stays balanced through out swing and shows good bat speed.

Alex Kotheimer (2012, OF, Templeton HS, CA) went 2-2, he does a good job staying back on the baseball and hitting it deep in his stance, has a line drive swing plane with some bat speed.

Jake Meloche (2012, LHP, Coronado HS, CA)  Meloche threw three innings striking out 4, he sat in the 82-84 topping out at 84, has loose arm action and a 12-6 downer curve at 71.

Marc Vela (2013, RHP, San Dieguito Academy, CA) Vela was also 82-84 in his outing, long arm action that works, has projectable velocity, has deceptive slider at 78 with short tight break.

Purple

Billy Baldwin (2013, C, Yucaipa HS, CA) went 2-3, shows a quick bat with good extension, will go other way, shows baseball smarts hitting behind runner at second to move him over.

Mark Young (2012, OF/1B, Helix HS, CA) went 1-2 with a double, does good job of staying inside baseball and going other way, plays hard.

John Gamble (2013, RHP, Santa Fe Christian HS, CA) threw 4 innings striking out 6, his fastball topped out at 86 sitting comfortably in the 83-85 range with a 76 MPH curveball, has good arm speed and is loose, curveball shows tight spin.

Stephen Gonsalves (2013 - San Marcos, CA) showed good arm strength on the mound pitching at 86-89 MPH while touching 90 MPH.  He uses a deceptive delivery with good balance.  The ball comes out of his hand clean and his velocity projects.  Gonsalves has a projectable lean build with plenty of room to fill.  He is committed to the University of San Diego.

Nolan Gannon (2012 - San Diego, CA) pitched very well for the Maroon Team.  The lanky 6-5/195 lb. right hander sat at 87-89 MPH with his fastball.  He showed good down plane and arm side run on his fastball.  Gannon threw his curve ball at 71-75 MPH and flashed an absolute hammer at 75 MPH.  He also threw a deceptive change up with sink and arm side run at 81 MPH.  He threw all 3 pitches for strikes and showed feel for them.

Steve Carr (2011 - Escondido, CA) pitched at 83-86 MPH with his fastball.  He threw a tight 11/5 slider at 70-72 MPH with deception.  Carr showed good feel for his slider and consistently threw it for strikes.  He showed pitchability and threw lots of strikes. 

Bobby Zarubin (2012 - San Diego, CA) pitched at 86-87 MPH with his fastball while touching 88 MPH.  His fastball has some down plane with arm side run as well.  He has a loose quick arm action and the ball comes out of his hand clean.  He flashed an 11/5 slider with tight spin. 

Jackson Zarubin (2011 - Pleasanton, CA) pitched at 83-85 MPH with his fastball.  He uses a deceptive full back turn delivery and repeats his delivery.  He has a loose arm with arm speed.  Zarubin has some sink on his fastball and hides the ball well.  He maintained arm speed on his change up that had sink and arm side run to it. 

Colin Winters (2013 - Carlsbad, CA) pitched at 82-85 MPH with his fastball.  He uses a short arm action with good arm speed.  Winters stays tall in his delivery and the ball comes out of his hand clean.  With some adjustments the velocity could really come.  Winters also showed a good approach at the plate with some big time power potential.

Dylan McDonald (2012 - Chula Vista, CA) pitched at 82-84 MPH with his fastball.  He has a balanced delivery and finishes to the plate well.  McDonald showed good feel for his change up at 72-74 MPH.  He also threw an 11/5 curve ball at 70 MPH.

John Gamble (2013, RHP/3B, Santa Fe Christian HS, CA) went 1-3 with a double.

Andrew Stephens (2012, C, Ayala HS, CA) was also 1-3, had a very good at bat, battling off good pitches before a line drive single up the middle.

Brent Wheatley (2012, RHP, Orange Lutheran HS, CA)  Strong athletic frame, sits in the upper 80's topping at 90, has an idea how to pitch, committed to Southern Cal.

Brandon Sylvia (2012, LHP, Mission Viejo HS, CA)  Easy arm action, sits in the mid 80's topping at 85, fastball shows arm side run at times, has good command.

Maroon

David Oppenheim (2013, OF, Mercer Island HS, WA) went 2-3 with a double an RBi and 3 stolen bases.

Justin Flatt (2013, 1B/OF, De La Salle HS, CA) went 1-3 with an RBI double.

Parker Bugg (2013, RHP, Rancho Bernardo HS, CA) The lean projectable pitcher threw in the mid 80's topping off at 86, he has good command and should throw harder a few years down the road with some added strength to his frame.

Drew Lutzke (2012, C, Agoura HS, CA), Lutzke was 2-2, he was aggressive at the plate today with good bat speed, he really handles the bat well.

Vincent Albelo (2012,1B Cabrielino HS, CA) also went 2-2, patient approach, line drive swing path, makes consistent contact at the plate.

Grayson Pratt (2012, RHP, La Cueva HS, CA) pitched 3 innings, sitting comfortably in the mid 80 range topping out at 86, has some good down hill plane on fastball, flashes a 74 MPH slider.

Tyler Rowe (2012, RHP, Los Osos HS, CA) Rowe threw 3 innings today, the lean body RHP sat in the 84-86 range topping at 87, he struck out 4 and didn't give up a hit.

Columbia Blue

Vincent Mori (2013, MIF, Westview HS, CA)  Mori went 2-2 with a double and a run scored.

Colin Winters (2013, OF, La Costa Canyon HS, CA)  Winterswent 2-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, he has a big projectable build .

Shayne Davern (2013, OF, La Costa Canyon HS, CA) Davern went 1-2 with a triple, run scored and RBI.  He does a good job staying inside the baseball.

Dillon Jackson (2013, LHP, Chaparral HS, AZ) pitched the final 4 innings fro the Columbia Blue team and sat in the mid 80's topping out at 87, he has very good mechanics and repeats his delivery.

Brett Volger (2014, MIF, La Jolla HS, CA). Volger went 2 for 3 today with a triple, he showed a nice swing with some bat speed and the ball will jump off his bat when centered up. 

Nicholas Yang (2013, 1B, Fountain Valley HS, CA) went 1-2 with a double, his bat has some juice in it.

Josh Paiet (2012, RHP, Eastlake HS, CA)  The tall lanky right hander looked good in his 3 innings of work today, sitting in the 84-87 range with his fastball and topping at 76 with his 12-6 curveball, he ended up striking out 5 in his outing.

Austin Cipres (2012, RHP, Murrieta Valley HS, CA) pitched a clean inning in the 10th topping at 88, right before the game Austin threw 93 from the OF during his skills work out.

TX Orange

Kevin Menker (2012, 3B, Carlsbad HS, CA) Menker was 2-3 with 2 doubles, 2 run scored and 2 RBI's, he has a line drive swing plane with good bat speed, he also topped out at 82 on the mound.

David Carpenter (2014, Calvary Christian HS, CA)  Carpenter has a lean projectable frame, he sat comfortably in the 82-83 range topping at 85, his velo projects with added strength to his frame.

The following players from Teal stood out from Batting Practice at Southwestern College.

Adonis Morrison (2013, INF, Gahr HS, CA)  Morrison has a simple approach, very easy swing, mid field approach, doesn't try to do much with bat, showed good bat speed and made solid contact with a line drive swing.

Cody Schuster (2012, C, Palo Verde HS, NV)  Schuster has a quiet approach ot the ball, solid contact to all fields, showed good bat speed, hits to all fields.

Dalton DiNatale (2012, 3B, Calvary Christian HS, CA) Has current strength in swing, balanced, solid bat speed, pull pop, ball really jumped off bat, nice loose hands,

Joseph Duffin (2012, C, Orange Lutheran HS, CA) Duffin has a strong frame, shows power to the opposite field, good bat speed, let the ball get deep in to stance, ball really jumped off bat.

The following players stood out during batting practice for the Steel team at Southwestern College.

Cameron (CJ) Saylor (2012, C, South Hills, CA)  Saylor has a line drive swing plane with good bat speed, uses the whole field and has some pull pop.

Chase DeJong (2012, RHP/OF, Woodrow Wilson HS, CA)  May have taking the best BP so far, easy swing with bat speed, very relaxed in the box.  Nice natural left handed swing, uses long frame to create good leverage, good line drive swing plane, and made solid contact on most swings.

Vahn Bozoina (2012, OF, Ayaia HS, CA) Big athletic build, has present strength in swing, good bat speed, ball really jumps off bat, has power to all fields.

Ryan Peterson (2012, OF, South Hills HS, CA) Peterson has a lean build, good bat speed, makes hard contract, consistent swing plane and contact.

Lucas Giolito (2012 - Santa Monica, CA) was very impressive in his inning of work.  The 6-6/220 lb. right hander sat at 91-93 MPH with his fastball.  The ball jumped out of his hand and he throws it easy.  He showed good downward plane with armside run on his fastball as well.  Giolito showed a sharp slider at 81 MPH today as well.  He threw it for strikes today.  Giolito looked like a first rounder today.

Adrian DeHorta (2013 - La Puente, CA) pitched well for the Steel Team.  He pitched at 86-89 and touched 90 MPH with his fastball.  The ball comes out of his hand cledan and his velocity projects.  He flashed a 10/4 slurve at 71 MPH and it had some bite at times.  He also threw a change up with some sink at 75 MPH.  He's a good follow for the 2013 class.

CJ Saylor (2012 - West Covina, CA) pitched at 86-88 MPH with his fastball.  He has a loose arm action with arm speed.  He also showed an 11/5 curveball with bite.  Saylor also looked very good behind the plate showing top level arm strength and catch and throw tools.  He swung the bat well making hard contact and hitting a triple over the right fielders head.  He's a top level prospect.

Vahn Bozoian (2012 - Chino Hills, CA) looked very good at the plate.  He made consistent hard contact with a double over the left fielders head and a sharp ground out to shortstop that registered 94 MPH off the bat.

Ian Clarkin (2013 - San Diego, CA) sat at 88 MPH in his two innings of work for the Navy Team.  He has a loose arm action with good arm speed.  He uses a deceptive delivery and hides the ball well.  Clarkin is verbally committed to the University of San Diego.

Kiko Garcia (2014 - Chula Vista, CA) pitched at 81-85 MPH with his fastball in his outing.  He uses a long arm action and has good arm speed.  His velocity projects and he gets down plane on his fastball.  He's an interesting follow for the 2014 class.

PJ Conlon (2012 - Placentia, CA) looked very good for the Red Team.  He pitched at 85-88 MPH with his fastball.  Conlon gets good armside run on his fastball and the ball comes out clean.  He showed good feel for his curve ball at 76 MPH and his change up at 78 MPH.  He threw all 3 pitches for strikes and showed pitchability. 

Tim Willittes (2013 - Scottsdale, AZ) pitched at 83-85 MPH with his fastball.  He has a tall projectable body at 6-4/200 lbs.  Willittes pitches with a balanced delivery and spotted his fastball well.  His arm works and his velocity projects.  Willittes pitches with low effort and is a good follow for the 2013 class. 

Charles Moorman (2012 - Lakeside, CA) looked good behind the plate for the Red Team.  He showed good catch and throw tools to go with receiving skills.  He also showed good bat speed and swing path at the plate.

Gosuke Katoh (2013 - Poway, CA) showed very good defensive actions with a quick release.  He also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a couple of bloop hits.  Katoh showed good baserunning instincts and speed as well.

The following players stood out in the game at Southwestern College.

Gold

Daniel Robertson (2012, 3B, Upland HS, CA) Robertson went 1-3 with an RBI, showing very good bat speed and hand quickness, very solid defensively, showing good hands and actions at short stop, Robertson is a verbal to UCLA.

Carlos Martinez (2012, OF, Nogales HS, CA)  Martinez was 2-3 with a run scored, showing great discipline at the plate and staying on the ball with a hard line drive to right field.

Jack Colick (2011, OF, Crespi HS, CA) Colick went 2-3 on the day with 2 clean singles, has a simple approach and gets the barrel to the ball.

Joe Munoz (2012, RHP, Los Altos, CA)  Munox sat 86-88 on the day, has good arm speed, arm works well, shows 11/5 curveball at 70 with nice spin.

Green

Anthony Fernandez (2012, 1B, Mission Hills HS, CA) Fernandez has a nice line drive swing plane and stays inside the baseball well, he also stole a base and scored, defensively he attacks the baseball and works through it well.

Eric Tu (2012, RHP/OF, California HS, CA)  Tu has a really nice swing, good balanced, nice load, shows bat speed, makes solid contact, he went for 1-2 on the day.  He also was 81-83 on the mound topping at 84 with low effort, his curveball topped at 71 and showed good down plane on it.

The following players stood out during their batting practice at Eastlake High School.

Austin Cipres (2012, OF, Murrieta Valley HS, CA)  Showed a nice relaxed swing, was short to ball and had good extension through the baseball, the ball will jump off his bat when centered up, used the whole field.

Raymond Bartolmucci (2013, C, De L Salle HS, CA) Solid frame, hits from a square stance, sets up like Albert Pujols hands and leg bend, has good back side, showed some bat speed, used middle of field, has some current strength.

Carter Johnson (2013, OF, La Costa Canyon HS, CA) Short compact swing with good bat speed, line drive swing with good extension, ball jumps off bat, minor adjustments should add more pop to the gaps.

Nicholas Yang (2013, 1B, Fountain Valley, CA) Good frame, aggressive pull approach, shows bat speed, started to use whole field towards end of batting practice, lot of line drives up the middle.

The following players stood out during batting practice from the Texas Orange team.

Alejandro Robles (2012, 1B, Mater Dei Catholic HS, CA)-Good build, has a pull approach, nice line swing plane, shows good bat speed and makes solid contact.

Logan Przybylak (2014, 3B/C, San Juan Hills HS, CA)  Good build with room to add some strength, showed good extension through the baseball, line drive swing plane with late lift, showed some power to left field hitting 2 home runs.

Kevin Menker (2012, 3B, Carlsbad HS, CA)  Solid build, line drive plane, good bat speed, makes consistent solid contact, uses middle of field well.

Christian Hellmers (2013, RHP, Carlsbad HS, CA) Athletic build, line drive swing plane, creates good leverage with back side, shows good bat speed, should continue to improve.
