2011 Sunshine Northeast Showcase Top Prospect

Here is an early look at the top prospects from this weekends Sunshine Northeast Showcase. A more complete list will follow after all of the scouting notes have been compiled and reports have been completed

 

Chris Harvey, 2012, C, Norristown, PA, Germantown Academy. Harvey showed well like he always does with a pop time of 1.86 and 78 mph. He also showed the swing and bat speed that make him a top prospect. He is committed to Vanderbilt

 

Matthew Dacey, 2012, 1B, Wyckoff, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS. Dacey is a big left handed hitter with a nice stroke and good power potential. The bat stands out.

 

Jonathan Gonzalez 2013, C, Alco, NJ, Winslow Township. Gonzalez is a very interesting all around catcher. He popped a 1.91 and threw 77 mph in the catcher workout and he showed good pop in his bat and is a 2013 to watch.

 

Christian Colletti, 2012, LHP, Rockville Centre, Southside HS. Colletti sat mostly 87-88 mph with life and showed a nice breaking ball as well.

 

Tyler Honahan, 2012 LHP, Parker, CO, Legend HS. Honahan is a very interesting LHP with a smooth delivery and his arm works well. His fastball was up to 87 mph and he projects for more. He also showed a nice breaking ball at times and threw 88 mph from the outfield and 86 mph from 1B as well.

 

Jesus Colon, 2012, RHP Lyndhorst, NJ, Knox School. Ran his fastball up to 90 mph and is a good athlete who also ran a 6.69 sixty.

 

Nick Bateman, 2012, OF, Ashton, PA, Malvern Prep, Showed very well in the workout running a 6.69 and throwing 88 mph from the outfield. He also ripped a double in the game.

 

Alex Nickles, 2012 OF/RHP, Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo HS) Showed a big arm in the outfield being gunned at 93 mph and also showed solid hitting tools. He also got on the mound and worked 84-86 mph.

 

2011 Eric Alcantara (New York, NY, Cardinal Hayes) showed quick hands with good pop in his bat. Very interesting all around athlete and ran a 6.95 sixty. He is headed to Arkansas Pine Bluff next year.

 

Grant Van Orden, 2012, INF, Wyckoff, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS, Van Orden is very good all around player. He is good defensively in the infield and the bat plays well.

 

Connor Myers, 2012, OF/IF Middleton, MD HS, Myers ran a 6.67 sixty and it player very well in that games. He made hard in game contact and laced a triple and flew around the bases. He also threw 85 mph from the outfield and 82 from the infield.

 

Jessy Camilo, 2011, RHP Patterson, NJ, De Paul Catholic HS, Camilo showed a very good arm and his fastball sat 88-89 mph and touched 90 mph multiple times. He is a bit raw right now but has a very high ceiling. He is still uncommitted at this time.

 

Red Dowdell, 2012, C, Arlington, VA, Yorktown HS) Has a strong arm behind the plate and solid hitting tools with good bat speed. He is committed to VMI.

 

Michael Mecca, 2012, Ridgefield, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS. Is a very good athlete and ran a 6.53 and threw 84 mph from the outfield. He also has a nice swing.

 

Matthew Crohan, 2013, LHP Jamesport, NY, Riverhead HS, Crohan is and interesting young LHP who was up to the mid 80’s with his fastball and projects well. He also threw 87 mph from the outfield.

 

Joe McCarthy, 2012, OF, Scranton, PA, Scranton HS. McCarthy is a big strong athlete who ran a 6.69 and threw 84 mph from the outfield. He also showed a nice lefthanded stroke as well.

 

Collin McGee, 2012, C, Auburn, PA, Schuylkill Haven HS. McGee impressed with a 1.96 pop time and 80 mph velo. He has a nice swing and showed power potential. He also was 84-86 mph on the mound.

 

2012 Jovanni Thomas, (Knox School) showed a nice quick swing with good power. He was a bit pull happy but has excellent hitting tools to work with.

 

2012 Zach Gray (Livingston, NJ, Morristown Beard School) has good hitting tools and his bat plays well.

 

Gabe Levanti, 2013, C Baldwinsville, NY, Baldwinsville HS,. Levanti showed very well in the catcher workout showing good actions and popping a 1.90 with a velocity of 75 mph. He hit well in the games and is a 2013 to watch closely.

 

Mitchell Moore, 2012, INF/RHP, Dover, DE, Dover HS. Moore is an interesting all around player with good arm strength in the infield and he hit well in the games. He also was 84-86 mph on the mound.

 

Alec Hoeschel, 2013, INF, Hockessin, DE, Charter School of Wilmington. Played very well in the games and our scouts really liked him.

 

Matthew Kleinstein, 2013, C, Marlboro, NJ, Colts Neck HS. Has outstanding defensive tools behind the plate and showed very well in the workout popping a 1.84 and throwing 79 mph.

 

Reed Schlesner, 2012, OF, Loveland, OH, Loveland HS. Schlesner is a good all around athlete who showed well in the workout running a 6.75 and threw 86 mph from the outfield. He also showed a nice left-handed swing.

 

Keith Skinner, 2012, Berkeley Heights, NJ, Governor Livingston HS, Skinner is a strong armed catcher who tore it up in the games going 4-5 with a double.

 

Brandon Benecke, 2013, Jackson, NJ, Liberty HS is an interesting all around player and one to watch in the northeast in the 2013 class.

2012's Ryan O'Connor (Bloomfield, NJ, St. Peters Prep) and Joe Palladino (West Chester, PA, Bayard Rustin HS) each knocked out 2 hits for the Navy team.

2012 Nicolas Morton (New York, NY, Packer Collegiate) ripped a double in the game.

2012's Brandon Smith (Burlington, NJ) and Corey Lerche 0(West Nyack, NY) each had two hits in the game as did 2014 Robbie Nardelli (Eynon, PA, Valley View HS) as Nardelli made lots of hard contact and is a good young hitter to watch.

2012 Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ, Plainsboro HS) ripped a single that was gunned at 89 mph off the bat.

2013 RHP Austin Goeke (Bordertown, NJ, topped out at 85 mph for the Red team, 2012 LHP Michael Niego (Hillsdale, NJ) topped out at 85 mph and showed a nice tight breaking ball and 2012 RHP Rob Costello was up to 83 mph but projects for more.

2013 Billy Nelson (Madison Township, PA, North Pocono HS) showed a nice change and pitched mostly in the low 80's but did touch 86 mph. He also showed well with the bat knocking out 2 doubles in the game.

2012 Mitchell Moore (Dover, DE, HS)is an interesting all around player and continued to hit well going 2-3 with a double.

2013 Skylar Mercado (Bronx, NY, Archbishop Stepinac HS) is an interesting young player who is a good athlete and looked very smooth in the infield.

2012 C Red Dowdell (Arlington, VA, Yorktown HS) is a an interesting left handed hitting catcher who showed bat speed and power potential.

2012 RHP Ryan Winton (Vorhees, NJ, St Josephs Prep) threw well in his 3 innings of work striking out 5 batters with a fastball that was up to 83 mph and showed a nice 12-6 curveball.

2012 RHP James English (Smithtown, NY, East HS) also threw well topping out at 85 mph with life.

2012 OF Michael Mecca (Ridgefield, NY, Don Bosco Prep HS) had an outstanding game going 2-3 with a double and a triple. He uses his 6.53 speed well.

2011 Eric Alcantara (New York, NY, Cardnial Hayes) is a very interesting player. He is a good athlete with a high ceiling. He is headed to Arkansas Pine Bluff next year.

2013 Joshua Castro (St. James, NY, Smithtown East HS) also doubled for the Texas Orange team.

2012 Ray Grasby (Covington Township, PA, North Pocono HS) took a good BP, making good contact with a short swing and gap power.

 

2012 Michael Koerick (Radnor, PA HS) showed a good swing with solid bat speed and showed signs of power.

 

2012 Matthew Dacey (Wyckoff, NJ, Don Bosco Prep) took a very good BP showing good bat speed and power potential. The ball jumps off his bat.

 

2012 Zach Maier (Huntsville, OH, Indian Lake HS) showed bat speed and drove the ball to all fields.

 

2013 Kyle Simmons (West Friendship, MD, McDonogh HS) took a nice BP making solid contact to all fields.

 

2013 Jonathan Gonzalez (Atco, NJ, Winslow Township) took an excellent batting practice. He has good bat speed and lift and the ball really jumps off his barrel. Definite 2013 to watch.

 

2012 Zach Gray (Livingston, NJ, Morristown Beard School)  has good hitting tools and his bat plays well.

 

2012 Nick Bateman (Aston, PA, Malvern Prep) showed a nice short compact swing, with good bat speed, definite bat to follow.

 

2012 Red Dowdell (Arlington, VA, Yorktown HS) showed a quick bat and the ball jumped off his bat.

 

2012 Jovanni Thomas, (Knox School) showed a nice quick swing with good power. He was a bit pull happy but has excellent hitting tools to work with.

 

2012 Frank (Tommy) Alexander (Forty Fort, PA, Wyoming Valley West HS) showed a nice swing with good balance and showed signs of power.

 

2012 Grant Van Orden (Wyckoff, NJ, Don Bosco Prep) had good bat speed and drove the ball to all fields.

 

2012 Alex Nickles (Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo HS) had a nice short swing and the ball was jumping off his bat.

 

2012 Timothy Rhatigan (Belford, NJ, Middletown North HS) showed a nice power stroke and drove the ball to all fields.

 

2012 Chris Harvey (Norristown, PA, Germantown Academy) showed good bat speed and a nice swing. Wasn’t his best BP we have seen but he has all the tools that’s for sure.

 

2013 Nick Montefusco (Medford, NJ, Shawnee HS)  showed a nice swing and took a good BP.

 

2012 Sean Jones (Wayne, NJ, De Paul Catholic) hit very well and the ball was jumping off his bat. Very nice left handed stroke to watch.

 

2013 Brandon Benecke (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial HS) had quick hands and good pop and showed good power potential.

 

2012 Michael Mecca (Ridgefield, NJ, Don Bosco Prep) showed a smooth swing with quick hands and used all fields well.

 

2012 Colin Ammon (Phoenixville, PA, HS) had a quick bat and the ball was jumping off his bat.

 

2011 Eric Alcantara (New York, NY, Cardinal Hayes) showed quick hands with good pop in his bat. Very interesting all around athlete. He is headed to Arkansas Pine Bluff next year.

2012 Travis Rudic (Freehold, NJ, Freehold HS and 2014 Hannibal Tate (Hilliard, OH, Davidson HS) ripped back to back doubles in the game for the Crimson team.

Two guys that made hard contact in the game with nothing to show for it were 2013 Buddy Reed (Finksburg, MD, St. George's School) who also impressed in yesterdays workout and 2012 Left handed hitter Matthew Dacey (Wyckoff, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS) who ripped a groundout that was registered at 96 mph off the bat.

2012 RHP Terry Engels (Baldwinsville, NY HS) worked his fastball up to 84 mph in his three innings of work.

2012 Collin Mcgee (Auburn, PA, Schuylkill Haven HS) continues to impress as he knocked two more singles as he continues to make hard contact. He also got on the mound and pitched 84-86 mph with a smooth delivery and good action and depth on his curveball.

2012 Nick Montefusco (Medford, NJ, Shawnee HS) continues to impress with his bat and ripped a double in todays game.

2011 Bradley Taylor (Freeport, NY, Upper Room Christian) and 2012 Joe Iacobellis (Morganville, NJ, Red Bank Catholic) each had 2 hits in the game.

2012 Mitchell Preston (Wall, NJ, Wall HS) continues to hit well with 2 hits in the game. He stayed on a curveball and laced it to CF for one of his 2 hits.

2013 Brendan Benecke (Jackson, NJ, Liberty HS) pitched an inning in relief and struck out 2 with a fastball that topped out at 84 mph.

2013 Alec Hoeschel (Hockessin, DE, Charter School of Wilmington) continues to impress with the bat with a solid single to left.

2014 Erik Beal (Jackson, NJ, Memorial HS) and William Reillo (Woodside, NY, Aviation HS) each ripped a double in the game while 2012 Mitch Bennett (Pottstown, PA, Owen J. Roberts HS). 2012 Brett Kovach (Lakewood, CO, Wheat Ridge HS) also knocked out 2 hits for the Gold team.

2012 Nick Brebner (Toms River, NJ, North HS) had a nice game for the Red team showing a nice swing and going 2-3 with a double. 2013 Andrew Mullen (Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo HS) also had a nice game going 2-3 with a double.

2012 Matthew Roland (Springfield, NJ, Jonathan Dayton HS) ripped a ball to the left center gap in the game for a triple showing good hitting tools.

2012 RHP Nicholas DeFrank worked a quick inning in relief with a fastball that was up to 84 mph.

2013 C Jonathan Gonzalez (Atco, NJ, Winslow Township HS) is a very interesting young catching prospect and he showed it with the bat today smoking a double in the game. He showed very good catch and throw skills in the workout yesterday.

2012 C James Bertolotti (Bethlehem, PA, Liberty HS) had an outstanding game for the Dark Green team. He made hard contact each time up to the plate going 3-3 with 2 doubles in the game. He also showed solid catch and throw skills between innings.

2012 Matthew Medford (Wall, NJ HS) rocketed a double in the game that was gunned at 90 mph off the bat.

2012 Keith Skinner (Berkeley Heights, NJ, Governor Livingston HS) continues to hit well in games going 2-2 after a 2-3 game yesterday with a double. He also has a strong arm be)hind the plate.

2011 Jonathan Buck (Green Brook, NJ, Watchung Hills HS) looked very good with the bat smoking two balls in the game including a double. One was registered at 88 mph off the bat. He also picked it well at 1B.

2012 Steven Zadrima (Bronx, NY, Salesian HS) and Joe Runco (Spring Brook Township, PA, North Pocono HS) each ripped a double in the game.
2012 3B Joe Piscopo (Huntingdon Valley, PA, LaSalle College) knocked out 2 hits and showed loose wrists with flick.

2011 RHP Jessy Camilo (Paterson, NJ, De Paul Catholic HS) showed an outstanding arm pitching 88-89 mph in his first inning of work and touching 90 mph multiple times. The big 6'4 RHP is raw but his arm works well and he is still open and projects well getting with the right pitching coach at the next level.

2012 Chris Liquori (Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo HS) hit the ball well each time up with nothing to show for it.

2012 Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ, Plainsboro HS) kocked out 2 hits in the game going 2-3 with 2 singles.

RHP Sean Jones (Wayne, NJ De Paul Catholic HS) arm worked well on the mound with solid mechanics and he topped out at 83 mph.

2013 C Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, NY HS) showed well with the bat going 2-3 with a double and showing gap power. He also looked very good today in the catcher workout.

2012 Vinnie Nocella (Turnersville, NJ Washington Township HS) showed a nice swing with quick hands and knocked out 2 hits in the game.

2013 Brian Delesky (Jackson, NJ, Memorial HS) had a nice approach and went 2-3 in the game.

2013 LHP Matthew Crohan (Jamesport, NY, Riverhead HS) is an interesting young LHP. He showed a mid 80's fastball with cut and sink and commanded his pitches well. He projects nicely and needs to be followed closely.

2012 Matt Mortimer (Spencer, MA, Worcester Academy) showed solid bat speed and squared the ball up well including one shot that was 88 mph off the bat.

2013 MIF Grant Lamberton (Newark, DE, Salesianium HS) showed a nice lefthanded swing and looked good making plays on the run in the infield.

2012 OF Connor Myers (Middletown, MD HS) can flat out fly and his speed is a difference maker on the bases. He made hard contact at the plate and absolutely flew around the bases on a triple.

2012 Nathan Struss (Collegeville, PA, Perkiomen HS) went 2-4 with a double and showed a nice stroke on the inner half.

2012 Joe Palladino (West Chester, PA, Bayard Rustin HS) and 2012 Reed Schlesber (Loveland, OH HS) each knocked out 2 hits in the game.

2012 Mitchell Moore (Dover, DE, Dover HS) struck out two in an inning of relief with a fastball that sat 84-86 mph with good life. He also smoked a double in the game showing gap power.

2012 Frank (Tommy) Alexander (Forty Fort, PA, Wyoming Valley West HS) got the start for the Red Team and looked very good striking out 6 batters in 3 innings. His fastball topped out at 88 mph from a sound delivery and he also showed a solid breaking ball. 

2012 RHP Alex Nickles (Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo HS) threw a nice inning in relief with two punchouts. His fastball was 85-86 mph after showing a big arm from the outfield that was gunned at 93 mph earlier in the day. 

2012 INF Grant Van Orden (Wyckoff, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS) is a very good all around player. He laced a double in the game and looked very good in the infield with good range, soft hands and a strong arm. 2012 Wesley Custer (Tunkhannock, PA HS) also had a double in the game.

2012 LHP Tyler Honahan (Parker, CO, Legend HS) looked very in his 3 innings of work for the Crimson team. His arm worked well and his fastball sat 85-87 mph with more to come. He also showed a nice curveball with good downer bite. Interesting 2012 LHP to watch.

2012 RHP Michael Doran (Asbury, NJ, St. Peter's Prep HS) started for the Crimson showed a quick arm and his fastball topped out at 85 mph. 

2013 C Andrew Herrera (Allendale, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS) smoked a double over the left fielders head in the game.

2012 OF/C Ray Graspy (Covington Township, PA, North Pocono HS) showed a nice swinging making hard contact going 2-3 with a double. 

2012  C Keith Skinner (Berkely Heights, NJ, Governor Livingston HS) had a nice swing and made hard contact twice going 2-3 with a double in the game.

2012 MIF Ray Triano (Brick, NJ, Brick Memorial HS) also had a nice game with going 2-3 with a double. 2013 Dan LaMorte smoked a double to lefitfield for the Columbia Blue team as well.

2012 RHP Steven Lombardi (Saddle River, NJ, Don Bosco Prep HS) looked good in his three innings of work for the Gold team. His fastball was up to 86 mph and he changed speeds well. He struck out 8 batters in his 3 innings.
