Championship Game Story >>

Chet Lemon’s Juice defeated Orlando Baseball Academy Connect2011 1-0 Monday afternoon in Fort Myers to win the 2010 WWBA Florida Qualifier.

The Championship Game was the 7th game inessentially 3 days for both teams and the hitter’s showed their fatigue insteadof the pitchers.  Both teams collectedonly 2 hits and the defense for both teams came through when needed.

Orlando RHP Corey Tufts allowed only a harmless 2-out walkthrough the first 3 innings, leaving the Juice with only 1 hit to show fortheir last 8 innings dating back to the first inning of their semi-finalvictory over the Tampa Crush.  Juice SSRichie Martin opened up the 4th inning with a clean single to leftfield, however, and then stole second base with 2 out.  1B Corey Spano came through with a clutch Rbisingle to put the Juice up 1-0.

Orlando had their best chance to score in the 5thinning off RHP Paul John Roundtree, who had relieved starter LHP Corey Stump tobegin the 3rd inning.  LFTyler Shenk reached base with 2 outs on an infield error and promptly stolesecond.  DH Tanner Stanley slapped asingle to right field but Juice RF Jonathan Camp made a perfect throw tocatcher Cameron Toole to nail Shenk at the plate.

Roundtree got the win with 4 innings of scorelessrelief.  Spano came in for the 7thinning and retired the side in order, including 2 strikeouts, to get the save.

Thomas Rivera, All-America Future Prospects >>
EX Thomas Rivera (2011 Montverde Academy, Fla.) continued to impress Perfect Game scouts, going 2-for-3 with a double and a single in a 7-4 consolation loss to the Florida Stars Red. Top seeded Cyclones Baseball let 3-0 going into the 4th inning in their quarterfinal game against Ostinger's Baseball Academy and a spot in the semifinals looked like a good bet.  Ostinger's, however, came back to score a run in the 4th inning before scoring 6 times in the 6th inning and twice more in the 7th to move on with a 9-4 victory.

Walks played a key role the Ostinger's comeback as 4 Cyclone pitcher's combined to walk 7 hitters over the last 2 innings.  LF Jake Jones had singles in both innings and ended the game 3-4 with a couple of runs scored.

SS Casey Turgeon of Cyclones also went 3-4.

Meade HS, Fla.) who went 2-for-3 with a RBI double and a solo home run. Camp is a 5-11, 215-pound monster who can hit to all fields and has serious power.

CF Kuehl McEachern (2011 Eustis HS, Fla.) continued his offensive barrage, going 2-for-3 with a single, a double, and two stolen bases. McEachern is a strong 6-3, 159-pounder with nice power.

SS Richie Martin (2012 Bloomingdale HS, Fla.) and C Cameron Toole (2012 Bishop Moore Catholic HS, Fla.) both went 2-for-3 with two singles. Martin stayed on the ball well, and Toole showcased a strong arm and had good snap down throws on defense.

RHP Thomas Renda (2011 Apopka HS, Fla.) pitched a complete seven-inning four-hitter, allowing just four singles while striking out three and touching 84 mph. Renda also showed good mechanics, confidence in his pitches, and a good feel for his off-speed stuff.

West Coast Nine Win a Thriller >>
The West Coast Nine Devils defeated the West Florida Panthers 8-7 at Clemente Field at Terry Park Sunday morning in one of the most exciting games of the tournament.  They now advance to the Quarterfinals.

West Coast moved to an early 5-2 lead after 2 innings and seemed to have the game under control heading into the 7th inning with a 7-3 lead and hard throwing 3B/RHP Mike Suchy (2011, Southeast HS, FL) on the mound.  Suchy had relieved starter RHP Chad Sobotka in the 5th inning and had 2 easy innings while bumping his fastball up to 89 mph.  He tired in the 7th, however, and walked the first 3 hitters as his fastball dipped into the low 80's.

Panthers 3B Ian Townsend (2011, Hernando HS, FL) made the most of the opportunity, clearing the bases with a Grand Slam to tie the score at 7-7, although Suchy was able to retire the next 3 hitters without incident.

Suchy took matters into his own hands, though, after allowing the Grand Slam.  He led off the bottom of 7th with a triple over the center fielder's head.  After 2 intentional walks to load the bases and a pop up, EH Seth McCarry ended the game with a single driving in Suchy.
Tampa Crush edge South FL Elite White in extras >>
The Tampa Crush barely avoided elimination Sunday morning at the Boston Red Sox 5-Plex, skirting the South Florida Elite Squad (White) in a nine-inning thriller, 4-3, to move on to the second round of the WWBA Florida Qualifier playoffs.

The Crush scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, winning in walk-off style on a base on balls. LF Derek Nunez (2011 Tampa Catholic HS, Fla.) brought the Crush closer to victory with a one-out, lead-off single and showed a smooth swing and good wheels down the base line.
Defense Leads Ostingers to Quarterfinals >>
Solid defense led Ostinger's Baseball Academy to a 5-2 win over Florida Baseball Heaven Sunday morning at Mack Field at Terry Park and a spot in the quarterfinals.

LHP Alex Parker (4 innings) and RHP Garrett Kriston (3 innings) allowed only 3 hits but walked 6 hitters so there was a constant procession of Florida Baseball Heaven runners on the bases.  However, Ostinger's catcher Nick Kociolek (2011, Newsome HS, FL) threw out runners attempting to steal second in both the first and second innings to take the running game out of play.  CF Tanner Poole (2011, Wharton HS, FL), who also had 2 hits, then threw out a runner at home plate with a perfect strike for the final out in the 5th inning.
OBA Wins with 5 runs in the 6th >>
Orlando Baseball Academy scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit to Palm Beach Select and advance to the Quarterfinals.

Palm Beach Select RHP Cheyne Bickel (2013, The Benjamin School, FL) cruised through 5 innings, retiring the first 9 hitters in order and taking a 4 hit shutout into the 6th.  A hit batter and 2 singles scored the first OBA run and Bickel was chased by a 2 run single by OBA SS Jack Curtis.

Bickel is a nice 2013 prospect, with a strong 6-0, 190 lb build and a 84-86 mph fastball from a 3/4's release point that has lots of sinking life.  He did a good job mixing in a 71 mph curveball and throwing strikes before tiring.

OBA LHP Jordan DeLorenzo (2011, Winter Park HS, FL) didn't get the win despite working 5 innings and striking out 8 hitters but did show prospect level stuff.  The southpaw touched 85 mph on his fastball from a low effort delivery and showed a big downer curveball at 71 mph.

Montana, the lead-off batter, hit a 2-RBI double and a sixth-inning single, showing a relaxed approach at the plate and a good swing. Williams tallied three straight singles in the No. 6 spot and had an aggressive approach in the box and looked to pull often. He also proved to be a smart baserunner.

Ramos, a small, athletic lefty hitter, showed patience, gap power, and speed, hitting a lead-off double to open the home half for Clap Bat. He also stole a base and drove in a run on a fourth-inning single.

Meanwhile, Wilson flashed a quick bat and a hard, solid swing while batting in the No. 2 spot. He hit a 2-RBI triple in the fourth.

LHP Spencer Hermann (2011 Mandarin HS, Fla.) pitched a full five innings in the mercy-rule shortened contest, allowing two runs on one hit while striking out eight. Hermann touched 85 mph and showed a loose arm, a medium-effort delivery, and good command.

McEachern showed quick hips, nice power potential, and leverage in his swing, hitting a line-drive no-doubter over the left-field fence.

Meanwhile, Juice RHP Devin Smith (2010 Newsome HS, Fla.) pitched seven strong innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight. Smith topped out at 86 mph and sat between 84-85, showing good location, minimal effort in his delivery, and confidence in his pitches. He also flashed a nice 73-mph change-up.

Curcio topped out at 85 mph and sat between 80-84. He pitched the first five innings, allowed a second-inning, lead-off single, and struck out three. He showed some tools on the mound and has an idea how to pitch.

Ahles closed out the final two innings, allowing a single and a double in the seventh while striking out one.
Comstock Leads Team Xtreme to 11-1 Win >>
Gm # 88 | 9/18/2010 | 4:30 PM Miami Snappers vs. Team Xtreme
Team Xtreme didn't need a stellar pitching performance Saturday evening at City of Palms Stadium in their 11-1 win over Miami Snappers.  But 2011 RHP Eric Comstock obliged anyway, throwing a complete game 2-hitter, allowing an unearned run in the 5th inning.  The 5-11 Comstock throws from an extended 3/4's release point and gets very good running action on an 83-85 mph fastball that he spots very well.

Team Xtreme's offense, led by SS Conor Hale and RF Rock Rucker, made sure Comstock didn't have to work too hard, scoring at least 2 runs in each of the first 4 innings in the 5 inning run rule shortened victory.
3 Pitchers Combine on 1-Hitter >>
Three Tampa Ball Hawgs pitchers combined on a 1-hitter in a 4-2 win over the South Florida Elite White team.

LHP Brian Daphney (2012, Eastlack HS, FL, 6-2, 180 lbs) threw the first 4 innings without allowing a hit.  Daphney was effectively wild, walking 4 hitters while striking out 8.  He topped out at 83 mph on his fastball and threw plenty of very effective 65-67 mph curveballs, especially when he was able to get the pitch under right hander's hands.  Daphney is a young southpaw prospect to follow.

RHP Brandon Gutierrez and RHP Terrence Jenkins finished up with an inning apiece, with Gutierrez allowing the only South Florida hit.

2B Troy Marlowe also went 3-4 for Top Prospects, while CF Brendan Gibbins scored 3 runs from his leadoff spot.
Brett Drops the Bombers >>
Ostingers Baseball Academy 18U RHP Kyle Brett (2011, Wharton HS, FL) threw a masterful 2 hit shutout, leading Ostinger's to a 3-0 win over the Florida Bombers.

The 5-11 Brett worked very consistently between 82 and 84 mph on his fastball from a cross body release point and had good downhill angle to his pitches.  His 71 mph curveball had a short, sharp break and he mixed in an occasional change up while striking out 7 hitters.

2012 RHP Marcus Breakman was the losing pitcher for the Bombers even though he only allowed 1 run in 4 innings of work.  The 6-1, 180 lb Breakman topped out at 88 mph on his fastball and has a loose, projectable arm.

Gm # 56 | 9/18/2010 | 11:30 AM Tampa Bay Warriors vs. Chet Lemon's Juice
A match up Saturday afternoon between two of the top teams at the event, featuring three of the top prospect pitchers in Fort Myers this weekend, did not disappoint.  Chet Lemon's Juice, behind 2011 prospects LHP Corey Stump and RHP Luke Weaver, defeated the Tampa Bay Warriors and their top 2012 right hander Jason Carmichael.

The 6-3, 160 lb Carmichael was actually more dominant in the losing cause, throwing a 6 inning complete game, allowing 4 hits will striking out 5 Juice hitters.  Unfortunately for the Warriors, 3 of those hits were bunched in the 4th inning, including a 2 run triple by RF Jonathan Camp.

Stump threw the first 2 2/3 innings for Chet Lemon before being lifted on what looked like a pitch count.  The 6-5 southpaw from Lakeland, Florida pitched in the 86-90 mph range and threw a sharp curveball between 72 and 75 mph while working in and out well to right handed hitters.

Weaver came in to finish the last 3 1/3 innings, allowing 5 hits but working out of trouble well.  The 6-2, 170 lb righty pitched at 88-91 mph and showed a sharp 12/6 curveball in the low 70's.

3B Tyler Selesky drove in 3 runs for the Bombers, including 2 with a 2-out single in the 3rd inning to give the Bombers their first lead.
