Lots of mid to upper 80 arms in last game of day >>

Gm # 45 | 5/6/2012 | 3:30 PM Iowa TP 2 vs. Iowa TP 1

5/6/2012 4:41:22 PM

There have been a flurry of mid to upper 80's arms throwing in the last game of the day.

Jake Stolley (2012 - Linn Mar HS) pitched at 82-85 MPH with his fastball and is a projectable lefty.  With a few adjustments, he should be pitching steady at 84-87 MPH.  He also has good feel for his curveball and change up and throws 3 pitches for strikes.

Austin Stroschein (2013 - Linn Mar HS) pitched at 83-87 MPH with his fastball.  He's another projectable body and arm and should be a 90 MPH guy in the future.

Ben Miller (2013 - WDM Valley HS) pitched at 84-87 MPH with his fastball showing good feel for his change up.  He's a strong bodied player and will be another 90 MPH + guy in the near future with a few adjustments.  He is committed to Nebraska.

Nick Biancalana (2014 - Roosevelt HS) pitched at 83-85 MPH today.  He's been steady at 85-87 MPH all spring and has a power arm action and will be a 90 MPH+ guy in the near future.

Justin Wyant (2013 - Linn Mar HS) pitched at 83-86 MPH with his fastball and projects for more with some adjustments.  He's a strong bodied RHP with a clean arm action.

Nate Greve (2013 - Linn Mar HS) pitched at 82-85 MPH today and struck out 6 in his 2 innings of work.  He's a max effort guy who throws 3 pitches for strikes.
Tyler Butz with good game >>

5/6/2012 4:30:06 PM

Tyler Butz (2013 - Prairie HS) swung the bat well with a hard double off the Perfect Game sign in left center field 351 feet from the plate.  He's got hitting tools and starting to swing the bat well!  He also made a few nice plays at third base and has good arm strength.
Gormally, Crowl with good games >>

5/6/2012 3:24:02 PM

Will Gormally (2012 - Fort Dodge HS) swung the bat well today.  He had a check swing single off Kevin Elder and put some good swings off Tyler Peyton and Matt Johnson.  Gormally has an aggressive approach at the plate with good bat speed.  Alex Crowl (2012 - Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln HS) had a good game at the plate putting good swings on the ball with a hard double over the center fielders head.  He's got good hitting tools and is still uncommitted, solid player with improving tools!
Johnson with good day at plate >>

5/6/2012 3:16:58 PM

Matt Johnson (2013 - Ankeny HS) swung the bat very well today.  He's got a good swing path to the ball with bat speed.  He put good swings off Alec Rash (92 MPH FB - line out) and a hard line drive (91 off bat off 84 MPH FB).  The bat projects and is a legit two way guy at the next level.  Good D1 prospect!
Tyler Peyton up to 88 MPH >>

5/6/2012 3:03:09 PM

Tyler Peyton(2012 - Dallas Center Grimes HS) pitched at 85-88 MPH with his fastball.  He's a projectable right hander with a loose quick arm action.  He's an interesting follow who is signed at Iowa Central CC.

Gm # 44 | 5/6/2012 | 12:15 PM Iowa TP 3 vs. Iowa TP 2

5/6/2012 2:51:07 PM

Calvin Mathews (2012 - Davis County HS) pitched well today at 86-88 MPH mostly and touched 90 MPH.  He had better downer action on his breaking ball today and pounded the strike zone.  He was dominant in his 3 innings of work striking out 8 of the 9 outs.  Mathews arm works loose and easy and the velocity projects.
Pena up to 92 MPH >>

5/6/2012 12:26:35 PM

Carlos Pena (2012 - Columbus, OH) was up to 92 MPH in his first inning of work.  He sat at 88-90 for the most part and showed flashes of a breaking ball.  He struggled with his command in the 2nd and 3rd but the jump to 92 MPH from the 88 MPH he threw at the Spring Top is intriguing.
Dom Thompson-Williams just flat out hitting! >>

5/6/2012 12:21:50 PM

Dom Thompson-Williams (2013 - Sioux City East HS) is just flat out mashing today!  So far he's 5 for 5 with hard contact every at bat.  He doubled off Alec Rash to the left center field gap about 340 ft.  He has hit well all spring, but he's really starting to come along.  He's a super athletic kid with a raw approach at the plate, but his hand eye coordination is so good he squares everything up and the ball jumps too!  He's a national level player with his athleticism and looks to really improve the more he plays at a high level.
Elder with dominant outing >>

5/6/2012 12:14:38 PM

Kevin Elder (2012 - Burlington Central HS) had a dominant performance going 3 innings allowing no hits, no runs, with 6 strikeouts.  He was steady at 88-90 MPH with his fastball and threw his breaking ball for strikes.  He pounded the strike zone and didn't have too many good swings off him.  He's committed to Arizona and should win a ton of games for them over the next few years.
Alec Rash up to 94 MPH >>

Gm # 43 | 5/6/2012 | 9:00 AM Iowa TP 1 vs. Iowa TP 3

5/6/2012 12:09:43 PM

2012 Alec Rash pitched at 91-94 early on in his outing today and pounded the strike zone in the first 4 innings of his outing.  He fatigued in the 5th and struggled with his command with a hit batsman and 2 walks.  He looked very good in the first 4 innings showing better down action on his breaking ball than previous outings this spring.  He also showed some sink on his change up and flashed big potential on it.  He's steadily improving every time out and generating more and more draft interest!
Dom Thompson-Williams with hard 1B >>

5/6/2012 8:08:36 AM

Dom Thompson-Williams led off the bottom of the first with a hard line drive 1B through the 5.5 hole.  He's got great hand eye coordination with bat speed.  Good follow, good tools!

4/29/2012 3:30:00 PM

Nick Belzer (2013 - Ankeny HS) and Craig Larkin (2012 - Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) combined on a rain shortened 5 inning no hitter.  Belzer threw the first 4 allowing just 2 walks with 10 strikeouts.  Belzer has a loose quick arm action with projectable velocity.  Larkin threw the last inning and struck out one before the game was called because of wet conditions.  He's a projectable left hander with quality secondary stuff.

Anthony Denkinger (2013 - Dowling HS) looked good at the plate in both games today showing good hitting tools with bat speed.  He also made some quality plays at shortstop.

Will Gormally (2012 - Fort Dodge HS) swung the bat well today as well collecting 2 hits in this game.  He's got good bat speed and makes consistent solid contact.  He's a good follow over the next couple years at Iowa Central CC.
20 scouts on hand for Elder, Rash matchup >>

Gm # 39 | 4/29/2012 | 12:00 PM Red vs. Black

4/29/2012 1:01:09 PM

There were about 20 scouts on hand to watch the Black vs. Red matchup featuring draftable arms Kevin Elder (2012 - Burlington Central HS) and Alec Rash (2012 - ADM HS).  Elder pitched 6 innings and was 88-90 MPH early on and was 87-88 MPH in the 6th.  He didn't have his best stuff of the spring but did manage to strikeout blank over his blank innings of work.  He spun his breaking ball pretty well and competed on a day where he didn't have his best stuff.  Rash pitched at 91-94 MPH early on and was steady 90-92 from 3rd inning on.  He struggled with his command in the first inning and settled in nicely after that striking out 10 in his 5 innings of work.

Joel Lanning (2013 - Ankeny HS) swung the bat well smoking a hard line drive up the middle off a Kevin Elder fastball registering 94 MPH off the bat.  He's a strong athletic player with good hitting tools.  He's a good D1 prospect with a handful of offers already and is also a prospect with the bat.

Calvin Mathews (2012 - Davis County HS) pitched at 88-90 MPH and struck out 5 in his two innings of work.  Mathews arm works real well and his velocity projects.  He is committed to Iowa.

Ratz, Stickney with big game for White >>

Gm # 38 | 4/29/2012 | 12:30 PM Steel vs. White

4/29/2012 11:39:58 AM

Jordan Ratz (2013 - Xavier HS) hit a home run to center field for the White team.  He's a young player with hitting tools and good power potential.  He's an interesting follow with the bat for the 2013 class.

Mitch Stickney (2013 - Linn Mar HS) swung the bat well collecting 2 hits with a double.  He's a projectable bodied kid who has bat speed and gap to gap pop.  Stickney is an interesting follow for 2013.
Peyton up to 88 MPH >>

Gm # 37 | 4/29/2012 | 9:00 AM Black vs. Blue

4/29/2012 11:31:48 AM

Tyler Peyton (2012 - Dallas Center-Grimes HS) pitched at 86-88 MPH for the Steel team on a cold windy day in Norway.  He threw 4 innings allowing just 3 hits while striking out 9.  He's steadily improved this spring with his strike throwing ability and has been up to 90 a few times this spring and should generate some draft interest.

Justin Wyant (2013 - Linn Mar HS) pitched at 84-86 MPH for the White team allowing no hits in his 2 innings of work.  He's got a loose quick arm and should make some velocity gains this summer.
Mattke strikes out 12 for Black >>

4/29/2012 11:19:35 AM

Mack Mattke (2012 - Xavier HS) pitched very well for the Black team going the distance allowing just 3 hits and striking out 12.  Mattke pounded the strike zone with a mix of fastballs, curveballs, and change ups and really kept hitters off balance.

A.J. Puk (2013 - Washington HS) swung the bat well going 2 for 3 showing good bat speed and hitting tools.  Puk has power potential and is committed to Florida.

Trey Beckman (2015 - Prairie HS) also had 2 hits for the Black team.  He's a young player with good hitting tools and should develop into a quality hitting prospect over the next few years.
Lewis pitches well for Steel >>

Gm # 50 | 4/28/2012 | 6:00 PM Red vs. Steel

4/28/2012 7:26:00 PM

Jake Lewis (2013 - Dallas Center-Grimes HS) pitched well for the Steel team allowing just 1 hit and 1 run in 5 innings of work.  He pitched at 76-79 MPH showing good feel for his curveball.  He throws his curveball with 12/6 action on it with some occasional hard bite.

Tanner Clayberg (2013 - Ankeny HS) pitched at 81-83 MPH for the Red team and showed command of his fastball.  He struck out 4 in his 2 innings of work.  He's an interesting follow for 2013.

4/28/2012 3:23:16 PM

Joseph Monosmith (2014 - Ankeny HS) took a no-hitter into the 6th inning mixing and matching his off-speed stuff for strikes and pitching to contact.  He pitched at 75-77 MPH and worked both sides of the plate.  Monosmith went the distance allowing just 1 hit with 3 strikeouts.

Matt Johnson (2013 - Ankeny HS) looked good defensively at 3B making a few athletic plays and showing arm strength.  He also swung the bat well taking good swings and making hard contact.  Interesting 2013 prospect.

Ryan Lillard (2014 - Urbandale HS) looks the part as a young shortstop prospect.  He's got a projectable athletic build with room to fill.  Defensively he's got smooth actions and good arm strength.  Interesting young player!

Tanner Buenting (2013 - Ankeny HS) had 3 hits for the Red team showing some bat speed and line drive pop.

4/28/2012 2:00:45 PM

Toran Shahidi (2014 - Ames HS) had two hits including the game winner as Blue came from 7 down in the 7th inning to win 8-7.  Shahidi is a line drive gap to gap type hitter who makes consistent contact.  He's also a good receiver behind the plate.

Mack Mattke (2012 - Xavier HS) and Kellen Yoder (2012 - Iowa City West HS) each had two hits for the Black team.  Mattke put good swings on the ball today squaring up the ball with line drives.  Yoder also put good swings on the ball with solid line drive contact.
Crowl with big game for Green >>

4/19/2012 6:50:57 PM

Alex Crowl (2012 - CB Abraham Lincoln HS) had a big game at the plate going 2-4 with a double, home run, and 3 RBI.  He's a strong kid with good strength in his swing.  He consistently squares the ball up and makes hard contact.  Crowl also made a very good play at 3B ranging to the 5.5 hole, knocking the ball down and throwing the runner out at first.

Ryan Lillard (2014 - Urbandale HS) is an interesting player in the 2014 class.  He's an athletic and projectable 6-2 / 175 lb middle infielder with good defensive actions.  He also swings the bat pretty well from the left side and hit a solid home run to center field.  He has some tools and should be followed over the next few years for improvement.

Biancalana up to 88 MPH >>

Gm # 33 | 4/15/2012 | 5:00 PM Green vs. Blue

4/19/2012 6:41:52 PM

Nick Biancalana (2014 - Roosevelt HS) pitched well for the Blue team and had good velocity at 85-88 MPH.  He's a young projectable RHP with big upside!  Biancalana has good arm speed and his arm works well.  He's a very good young follow for the 2014 class.

Ryan Erickson (2012 - Mason City HS) pitched well for the Green team striking out 5 in his two innings of work.  He pitched at 82-85 MPH and showed good command.  He's a projectable LHP who should be followed closely this summer and at Johnson County CC over the next couple years.

Cale Henke (2012 - Hudson HS) showed good velocity pitching at 84-86 MPH touching 87 MPH a few times.  He's a projectable 6-4 / 195 lb. right hander.  Henke also shows good command of a sharp curveball.  He's a good follow this summer and the next couple years at Kirkwood CC.

Ben Jacobson (2013 - Humboldt HS) pitched very well for the Green team striking out 6 in two innings of work.  He sat at 81-83 MPH with his fastball and spotted his curveball well.  He's an interesting player for the 2013 class.

4/19/2012 6:21:28 PM

Justin Wyant (2013 - Linn Mar HS) pitched well over his 3 innings of work sitting at 85-86 MPH touching 87 MPH.  He's a strong durable built RHP with projectable stuff.

Mitch Keller (2014 - Xavier HS) pitched at 82-84 MPH touching 85 MPH.  Keller is a projectable young arm who should be followed closely over the next couple years.

Lots of home runs in Orange/White Matchup >>

Gm # 29 | 4/15/2012 | 1:00 PM White vs. Orange

4/19/2012 8:41:59 AM

It was a great day for hitting in Ames as there were 4 players who combined for 5 home runs.  Corbin Woods (2013 - Xavier HS), Bryce Rose (2012 - Keokuk HS), Gage Carpenter (2013 - Wapello HS) and Kristofer Klabunde (2013 - Bettendorf HS) all hit home runs on the day.  Woods is a player that has good bat speed and hitting tools that project.  He's an interesting hitting prospect for the 2013 class.  Rose is an interesting player with some bat speed and some hitting tools.  Carpenter is a player with good raw bat speed and an improved approach this spring.  Klabunde is a primary pitcher who shows some hitting tools as well.
Rash, Mathews up to 90+ >>

Gm # 27 | 4/7/2012 | 3:00 PM Blue vs. Red

4/10/2012 2:23:40 PM

Alec Rash (2012 - ADM HS) pitched well for the Red team flashing at fastball at 92-94 MPH.  He also showed some feel for his slider with sharp late break.  Rash threw a couple of change ups at 84 MPH and threw a really good one with sink and run to it.  It shows promise as a third pitch for him.

Calvin Mathews (2012 - Davis County HS) was his usual self even in the sloppy conditions pitching at 88-90 MPH with his fastball.  He threw a lot of strikes considering the deteriorating mound conditions with the rain.  His velocity projects and he's got a loose fast arm action.

Nick Biancalana (2014 - Roosevelt HS) showed good arm strength on the mound pitching at 85-88 MPH.  He struggled with his release point, but with his arm strength and off-speed stuff he's a good young follow for 2014.

Toran Shahidi (2014 - Ames HS) had a good game at the plate going 2 for 2 with an RBI.  He hit a line drive up the middle off an Alec Rash fastball, and also put a good swing on a Calvin Mathews fastball.  He's got some hitting tools and is a good young player for the 2014 class.
Rose with big game for White >>

Gm # 26 | 4/7/2012 | 3:00 PM White vs. Green

4/10/2012 2:15:32 PM

Bryce Rose (2012 - Keokuk HS) had a good game at the plate for the White team.  He went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.  He showed bat speed and squared the ball up well!  Austin Banks had a good game as well collecting two hits for the White team.  He swings on a line drive path and has gap pop.

Elder dominant for Black >>

Gm # 25 | 4/7/2012 | 12:00 PM Steel vs. Black

4/10/2012 2:07:06 PM

Kevin Elder (2012 - Burlington Central HS) pitched well for the Black team going 4 innings allowing just 1 hit with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks.  He pitched at 86-88 MPH touching 90 MPH.  Elder threw a sharp slider at 72 MPH with late break.

Brennan Hammer (2013 - Prairie HS) looked good at the plate with a hard double to right center field.  Hammer shows good hitting tools with bat speed and strength in his swing.  Good follow for 2013!
Green pitchers dominant over Orange >>

Gm # 24 | 4/7/2012 | 12:00 PM Green vs. Orange

4/10/2012 10:09:20 AM

Peyton up to 90 MPH >>

Gm # 23 | 4/7/2012 | 9:00 AM Black vs. Steel

4/9/2012 1:38:15 PM

Tyler Peyton (2012 - Dallas Center-Grimes HS) pitched steady at 87-89 MPH touching 90 MPH with his fastball.  Peyton has a quick arm with projectable arm strength.  He pounded the strike zone in this performance striking out 8 while walking none.  He also showed pretty good feel for his curveball and flashed a pretty good change up at times.  He's a good one to follow the rest of the spring for improvement!  Peyton is signed at Iowa Central CC.

Cole Crawford (2013 - Wilton HS) had a good game for the Black team pitching 3 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run while striking out 5 and walking 1.  He pitched steady at 81-84 MPH with his fastball and threw his breaking ball for strikes.  He's an interesting follow for 2013 on the mound.  He also swung the bat well going 2-2 at the plate with 2 doubles.

Brady Mayo (2014 - Sioux City North HS) showed good hitting tools at the plate and came up clutch with an RBI double in the 9th inning to take the lead.  He's an interesting young player to follow!

Jack Strellner (2013 - Linn Mar HS) looked good at the plate going 2-4 with 2 RBI.  Strellner is a line drive hitter with some bat speed.  Corbin Woods (2103 - Xavier HS) also looked good at the plate showing bat speed with some strength in his swing.
Team White wins 8-5 >>

Gm # 19 | 4/1/2012 | 2:00 PM Blue vs. White

4/2/2012 2:35:07 PM

Ryan Kemp (2012, OF, Keokuk HS, Keokuk, IA) had a couple of doubles in the game for the White team with 2 RBI's to help pace their offensive effort. Kemp has a strong build, gets good extension at the plate, is an aggressive hitter, and hits the ball to all fields.

Austin Stroschein (2013, RHP/3B, Linn Mar HS, Marion, IA) had a 2-run Home Run in the game for the White team to help in offense. Stroschein is an aggressive line drive hitter, with pop in his bat, and shows bat speed.

Nick Biancalana (2014, RHP, Roosevelt HS, Des Moines, IA) had his fastball topping out at 87mph with it sitting at 84-86mph. Biancalana has a short arm action, balanced delivery, and is aggressive with his fastball.
Belzer, Johnson up to 86 MPH >>

Gm # 21 | 4/1/2012 | 4:30 PM Red vs. Steel

4/1/2012 9:31:57 PM

Nick Belzer (2013 - Ankeny HS) pitched very well today for the Red team sitting at 84-86 MPH with his fastball.  He has a loose quick arm action with projectable velocity.  Belzer also threw a sharp breaking ball with good downer action on it.  He's a very good follow for the 2013 class.

Matt Johnson (2013 - Ankeny HS) also pitched well sitting at 84-86 MPH.  Johnson has been a strike thrower pretty much every outing I've seen over the past 2 years and today was no exception.  He pounded the strike zone with his fastball and showed command of his curveball as well.  He also swung the bat well making solid contact and good bat speed.  He's a legit two-way prospect and should be followed closely.

Nate Schweers (2014 - Ankeny HS) sat at 79-81 MPH with his fastball and was around the plate.  He's another quality arm from Ankeny HS!  He's got a clean quick arm action and throws strikes.  He's an interesting follow for the 2014 class.

Brady Mayo (2014 - Sioux City North HS) and Jake Westphal (2014 - Sioux City East HS) both solid follows for the 2014 class out of Sioux City.  Mayo showed good bat speed and strength in his swing today.  Westphal showed bat speed as well as good defensive actions at shortstop.
Rash very impressive for Red >>

Gm # 20 | 4/1/2012 | 2:00 PM Steel vs. Red

4/1/2012 9:15:58 PM

Missouri commit Alec Rash (2012 - ADM HS) pitched extremely well today for the Red team.  He sat at 93-94 MPH with his fastball touching 95 MPH in the first inning.  He was steady at 93-94 MPH throughout his 3 innings of work today.  Rash has a loose arm action with excellent arm speed.  He showed much better command of his fastball today striking out 9 hitters while walking none.  It was his best outing to date!  He also had pretty good control of his slider today throwing it for strikes with good bite to it.  Rash was aggressive today with his fastball and seemed to always be ahead in the count today for the most part.  He just might touch 96 MPH by the end of the spring!

Iowa commit Calvin Mathews (2012 - Davis County HS) pitched well in his own right after Rash pitching at 88-90 MPH with his fastball.  Mathews has a long loose arm action with projectable velocity.  He didn't allow a hit in his 2 innings of work while striking out 3.  Mathews is a competitor who will attack hitters with his fastball.

Nebraska commit Ben Miller (2013 - WDM Valley HS) was a pleasant surprise today pitching at 86-88 MPH with his fastball touching 89 MPH.  A month and a half ago at the Indoor Showcase he was steady at 84-86 MPH with his fastball and is showing rapid improvement.  He still has a few tweaks to make in his delivery, but his upside and rapid improvement are very encouraging!  Miller allowed just 1 hit over 3 innings while striking 5 and walking 1.  He threw 3 pitches for strikes and showed pretty good command.  It'll be interesting to see just how much Miller improves over the next year!

Dom Thompson-Williams (2013 - Sioux City East HS) was the only player to put Alec Rash into play today and he had a hard line drive single to right field.  He's a very athletic player who is talented yet very raw right now.  He shows good hand-eye at the plate making lots of hard contact and has an aggressive approach.  He's also a good runner and has some arm strength as well.  Thompson-Williams reminds me of 2011 Blue Jays draft pick Derrick Loveless a bit.  Loveless was a better runner, but Thompson-Williams shows better hitting tools at the same age.  Thompson-Williams is also a D1 football prospect as a receiver like Loveless.  It'll be interesting to see just how much he improves with more experience!

Joel Lanning (2013 - Ankeny HS) is another talented multi sport athlete who is a D1 prospect as a quarterback as well as baseball prospect.  Lanning showed very good hitting tools squaring the baseball up and showing some pop.  He's listed as a primary catcher now, but his tools project best in the outfield as he's a pretty good runner and good athlete.  He's another interesting follow for the 2013 class.
Elder strikes out 6 in win >>

Gm # 18 | 4/1/2012 | 11:30 AM Black vs. Green

4/1/2012 8:37:11 PM

Kevin Elder (2012 - Burlington Central HS) struck out 6 in 3 innings of work for the Black team.  The Arizona commit sat at 86-88 MPH with his fastball and utilized his breaking ball more in his outing today.  He threw his breaking ball for strikes and showed good feel for it.  His fastball would get some run and sinking action on it at times today.

Ryan Erickson (2012 - Mason City HS) made a jump in velocity today sitting at 84-86 MPH with his fastball touching 87 MPH a few times.  He has a loose arm with arm speed with a lean projectable build at 6-2 / 165 lbs.  He struggled with his command a bit today, however he is a very interesting player with this 2-3 MPH jump since the Indoor Showcase in mid February.  He has committed to Johnson County CC and should really develop there and be followed closely for more improvement.

Mitch Moser (2013 - Benton Community HS) looked good at the plate with a hard single to right field and another good at bat driving in the first run of the game.  He's a solid defensive player as well with good actions and some arm strength.

Luke Farley (2015 - Waterloo Columbus HS) showed good hitting tools for the Green team.  He's got some strength in his swing and makes consistent solid contact.  He hit a double to the left field fence in his first at bat about 340 feet and is an interesting follow for the 2015 class at the plate.

LHP with a clean arm action.  He's making some adjustments to his delivery and starting to throw downhill a lot better.  His velocity was steady at 81-82 MPH with more in there.  He's an uncommitted 2012 with high academic numbers (4.33 GPA and 34 ACT) who could really improve over the next few years.

Ryan Kemp (2012 - Keokuk HS) swung the bat well for the White team.  He had 2 hits and showed bat speed with a line drive stroke.  He's also a good runner who can cover ground in the outfield.

Nick Biancalana (2014 - DM Roosevelt HS) was up to 87 MPH with his fastball for the Blue team.  He's a projectable RHP with a clean quick arm action.  He showed an improving curve ball as a result of no longer hooking his hand in the back of his arm action.  He's an interesting young follow who could be a 90 MPH arm sooner rather than later.

Rash up to 94 MPH for Red Team >>

Gm # 5 | 3/18/2012 | 1:30 PM Steel vs. Blue

3/18/2012 8:53:11 PM

Missouri commit Alec Rash (2012 - ADM HS) pitched at 90-93 MPH touching 94 MPH with his fastball.  He's got a lightning fast arm with a clean arm stroke.  His timing and balance were a bit off today so his command wasn't as good as it was at the Indoor Showcase.  With a few tweaks he should get back to that command he had at the Indoor Showcase.  Also the scary thing with Rash is that there is more MPH in his arm.  He'll be generating interest from national crosscheckers this spring.

Austin Stroschein (2013 - Linn Mar HS) was very good today sitting at 84-86 MPH with his fastball.  He also showed good control with his change up.  He's a good follow and the velocity projects.

Justin Wyant (2013 - Linn Mar HS) looked good today as well.  He pitched at 84-87 MPH with his fastball and showed improving command in his first inning of work.  He's in the process of making some mechanical adjustments that could result in another jump in velocity.  He should be followed closely as well.

Mitch Keller (2014 - Xavier HS) pitched very well in his 2 innings of work allowing no hits with 2 strikeouts.  He pitched at 81-84 MPH and his velocity projects well.  Very interesting follow.

Nick Belzer (2013 - Ankeny HS) didn't allow a hit in his 3 innings of work sitting at 81-84 MPH with his fastball.  He's got a loose quick arm action with projectable velocity.  Belzer showed much better control of his curveball today than at any time last fall.  He's another interesting follow for the class of 2013.

Matt Johnson (2013 - Ankeny HS) looked very good in his inning of work to close out the game.  He sat at 84-86 MPH with his fastball and pounded the strike zone.  He also showed good command of his curveball which showed good bite.

Florida commit AJ Puk (2013 - CR Washington HS) pitched at 85-88 MPH with a loose easy arm action.  He gets good run on his fastball with a sharp curveball.  He's a very projectable pitcher who could really make a jump between now and the end of the spring.

Tyler Votroubek (2013 - CR Prairie HS) led the Black team with 2 hits.  He's a strong kid with bat speed and power potential.

Cody Brandt (2013 - West Branch HS) looked good on the mound sitting at 82-84 MPH touching 85 MPH with his fastball.  He's a big 6-6/230 lb. left hander who has arm speed and arm strength.  His velocity projects well with a few adjustments to his delivery.  He's a good follow for the 2013 class as well.

Illinois recruit JD Nielsen (2012 - Martensdale St. Mary's HS) pitched well striking out 5 hitters over 3 innings.  His fastball was at 80-82 MPH today, but with a few adjustments to his delivery he should be back up to 86 MPH as he was in the fall.

Cale Henke (2012 - Hudson HS) looked good on the mound flashing an 80-84 MPH fastball with a sharp curveball.  He's got a projectable build and is signed at Kirkwood CC.
