Juan Cerda (2019 C, San Ysidro, CA): Cerda has highly projectable hitting tools and athleticism, squaring up a double with clean hands and quality bat speed.

Jose Cerda (2017 IF, San Ysidro, CA): The elder Cerda also doubled in game play, and he shows intriguing two-way potential as a hitter and pitcher.

Jared Palmyra (2018 OF, Lincoln, CA): Palmyra collected a pair of singles, and projects physically to grow into more power as he gets stronger.

Julian Tristan (2018 RHP, Irvine, CA): Tristan is an extremely projectable, extremely loose young pitcher who has a high ceiling. He worked 82-85 MPH with his fastball and mixed in a sharp off speed pitch.

Tate Samuelson (2017 SS, San Diego, CA): Samuelson is a primary shortstop, but has some upside on the mound as well. He worked 84-87 MPH with heavy sink, a sharp slider that he can manipulate, and a quality changeup with fade and deception.

Sunday Batting Practice Highlights >>

6/12/2016 8:44:55 PM

Calvin Mitchell (2017 OF, San Diego, CA) is ranked 42nd in the current PG 2017 class rankings and has one of the best and fastest left handed swings in the country.  The ball makes a different sound coming off the barrel than all but maybe 2 or 3 other players at this showcase.

Jesse Franklin (2017 OF, Seattle, WA) showed outstanding raw bat speed from the left side with an aggressive swing approach that was looking to damage the baseball.  The ball jumped very hard off the barrel when he squared it up.

Garrett Frechette (2019 1B, Vista, CA) has a chance to be an elite level hitter with development over the next few years.  He's a 6-3/180left hander with a loose and fast swing with outstanding swing mechanics.

Jose Cerda (2017 IF, San Ysidro, CA) has a big shift into contact with a strong and loose right handed swing.  He gets lots of extension out front and showed pull power.

Justin Ledgerwood (2017 3B, Alpine, CA) is a strong 6-3/205 athlete with an unusual crouched hitting approach but lots of strength in his swing.  The ball carries very well off his barrel, especially to right centerfield.

Waylon Pettijohn (2017 2B, Selah, WA) is listed at 5-8/160 but he has a very strong swing and attacks the ball aggressively from a simple load and swing path.   He crushed some balls, especially to left centerfield.

Troy Rice (2018 3B, Citrus Heights, CA) hit very well in the game on Saturday but also stood out during BP Sunday, with a short and quick right handed swing that squared everything up and drove most into gaps.

Octavio Sanchez (2018 RHP, Chula Vista, CA) is a primary pitcher but he has next level hitting tools as well.  He has a well timed rock back load and a simple strong swing that has lots of present bat speed.

Riley Carter (2019 1B, Carlsbad, CA) is very big for a 2019 at 6-2/235 but has high level hitter's tools and bat speed from a surprisingly short approach.  We'll hope he doesn't get too big in the next few years and can continue to show the same swing and strength.

Nathan Nankil (2020 OF, Chula Vista, CA) was one of the most impressive 2020's at the showcase.  He's a quick twitch athlete with hitters hands and drove the ball hard to all parts of the field.

Noah Kaagan (2018 OF, Escondido, CA) has a very sound hitting approach like most Rancho Bernardo HS players, with a simple timer and a short and efficient swing that produced solid gap to gap contact.

Cameron English (2018 C, Moreno Valley, CA) squared up virtually every pitch during his turn at the plate with a very well timed swing.  He pulled the ball hard with good jump on his line drives and really repeated his mechanics well.

Jake Connelly (2019 OF, San Diego, CA) has plenty of power for a 2019, with quick hands into the zone and good extension out front through contact.

Johnny Wiltfang (2016 SS, Clovis, CA) is one of the few 2016 players at the event but the 6-4/185 senior looks like a player who deserves a chance in college.  He has a long, loose swing with bat speed and consistently lined the ball hard to mid field and the pull side.

Henry Coquillard (2017 1B, Pacific Palisades, CA) will have to make some adjustments to his swing plane and hand path based on his BP but there is no mistaking his bat speed, athletic build and power potential.

Jacob Blas (2017 SS, Carlsbad, CA) is an Arizona commit who has a high average swing approach with very quick hands driving the barrel to contact.

3-Columbia Blue vs. 7-Orange >>

Connor Clift (2019 C, Anaheim Hills, CA) tallied three hits on the day and was a barrel finding machine.  He showed a quick swing and allowed his barrel to get baseball while staying on a line drive swing plane.

Henry Coquillard (2017 1B, Pacific Palisades, CA) was amonster at the dish hitting three doubles and one triple.  He showed the ability to go to all fields and tremendous barrel whip.

Trevor  Smith (2017 2B, Coronado, CA) doubled in his first at bat firing his hands to the baseball.

Octavio Sanchez (2018 RHP, Chula Vista, CA) was up to 84 mph in his four innings of work with good life on his fastball.

Jakob Demarest (2017 1B, San Diego, CA) worked from a quick, loose arm to run his fastball up to 82 mph.  He projects well on the mound as he continues to develop.
