Postseason bubble watch: May 9

Kendall Rogers

The race to the NCAA postseason becomes a lot of fun this time of year, and yesterday, we released the latest postseason field of 64 projections. But that's not all there is to the postseason landscape.

There also are those teams that narrowly missed this week's field, including Dallas Baptist, Illinois State, East Carolina, San Diego State, Southern Mississippi, UC Santa Barbara, Southern California, Illinois, Cal State Fullerton, and lastly, North Carolina State.

To give players, coaches and fans alike a better idea of where these teams stand in the pecking order, the pluses and minuses of their resumes, and what needs to happen moving forward, we breakdown the postseason situations for all of those programs.

Dallas Baptist

RPI: 37

Records: 31-17, 1-7 vs. RPI Top 25, 2-9 vs. RPI Top 50, 10-14 vs. RPI Top 100

Pluses: 2nd place in Missouri Valley, 14 road wins

Minuses: Losing records vs. RPI Top 25, 50 and 100, SOS of 94, Lack of marquee wins

Overall: Dallas Baptist has a nice stable of arms that could be dangerous in the postseason, but getting there is the problem. DBU has a good standing in the Missouri Valley, but its overall resume leave a lot to be desired with an RPI of 37. In other words, if the committee were looking at this resume as of today, they’d probably think it’s a bit skewed. With that said, DBU could make the committee’s life rather difficult by winning its remaining series against Wichita State (103) and Southern Illinois (182), while also winning a midweek bout against Oklahoma (108).
