Massachusetts State-by-State List

It’s been a trying season, to say the least, for Boston College, as they ended the year with a record of 12-40, including 4-25 record in conference play. It’s also a down year for them in terms of draftable talent, which significantly hurts the overall crop in the state. Holy Cross picks up some of that slack, boasting talent like infielder Mike Ahmed, who shows some power from the right side of the plate.

The highest level talent, however, is concentrated in the high school ranks. Left-hander, Ben Bowden, out of Lynn English High School, is the state’s best hope for a top ten round talent, and has shown steady improvement this spring. Catcher, Ryan Summers, checks in as the state’s second best high school talent, and is committed to Louisville.

BEN BOWDEN, lhp, Lynn English
Scouts were immediately pleased this spring when they saw Bowden and noted that he had trimmed down and gotten his big frame in significantly better shape. At 6-foot-4, Bowden now looks leaner and far more athletic. And, his velocity also projects well. He currently sits at 86-89 mph and will bump 90 every now and then. He uses his height well and has done a good job of throwing more strikes this spring. He uses a slow 69-72 mph curveball that he’s going to need to tighten at the next level. Bowden is a Vanderbilt commit that could be a selection anywhere in rounds 8-12.
