College Top 25: Wild in Manhattan

Kendall Rogers

The Vanderbilt Commodores didn't disappoint in their first week as the nation's top-ranked team, taking two of three from Alabama, and effectively holding on to the top spot in the Perfect Game College Top 25 entering conference tournament action for most.

Though Vanderbilt is No. 1 in this week's rankings, there was plenty of movement elsewhere around the latest top 25. For instance, North Carolina dropped from No. 2 to No. 5 following a home series loss to Virginia, while coincidentally, the Cavaliers vaulted from No. 6 to No. 4 after the series victory over the Tar Heels.

The rest of the top five includes No. 2 Louisiana State and No. 3 Cal State Fullerton. The Tigers won a big SEC series against Ole Miss over the weekend, while the Titans did a clean sweep of UC Irvine to capture the Big West regular season crown.

North Carolina State, Oregon State, Florida State, UCLA and Louisville round out the top 10, while Indiana moved from No. 15 to No. 11 after a road series win over Ohio State, Mississippi State made a significant climb from No. 21 to No. 13 following a home series win over South Carolina, and Virginia Tech went from No. 17 to No. 15 after a road series win over Wake Forest.

In terms of new entrants in the latest rankings, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech dropped out of this week's rankings after having tough weekends, while Kansas State, Troy and Seton Hall are the beneficiaries.

Kansas State debuted in the rankings at No. 17 after winning the Big 12 regular season crown against OU over the weekend, Troy moved in at No. 22, a spot in front of South Alabama, which it defeated to win the Sun Belt crown, and Seton Hall continued its impressive run to the end the regular season with a series win over St. John's.

The Perfect Game College Top 25 is released each Monday morning during the college baseball season.
