In the weeks leading up to the draft, Perfect Game will be providing a detailed overview of each state in the U.S., including the District of Columbia, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico. These overviews will list the state's strengths, weaknesses and the players with the best tools, as well as providing scouting reports on all Group 1 and 2 players as ranked in Perfect Game's state-by-state scouting lists.  Please visit this page for all of the links to Perfect Game's 2013 Draft Preview content.

Wyoming State-by-State List

It's not surprising that draftable talent is hard to come by in the state of Wyoming.  None of the colleges in the state field a baseball team, and baseball isn't an interscholastic sport at the high school level.  There is a fairly competitive level of American Legion ball that travels somewhat regionally, but the players that participate simply do not get the exposure, nor experience playing advanced levels of competition, to consistently generate pro level talent.

Brandon Nimmo was the exception to this rule two years ago when he became the highest drafted player from the state when the Mets plucked him up with the 13th overall pick.  Only two other players from Wyoming have been drafted in the new millennium: Dusty Harvard (28th round in 2006, Giants) and William McHenry (50th round in 2007, Rockies).  That number isn't expected to change in 2013 as some scouts that cover Wyoming haven't even bothered making a trip there this spring.  And with no established prospects for the next two high school classes, that doesn't look to change anytime soon.
