Normally the scouting situation for the top ranked high school pitcher in the country entering the spring would be pretty simple. For the second straight year, though, that is not going to be the case.

In 2012, top ranked RHP Lucas Giolito suffered an elbow injury in early March that kept him out of action all spring and eventually led to summer Tommy John surgery. That didn’t keep the Washington Nationals from drafting him with the 16th overall pick and signing him to a $2,925,000 bonus.

Texas RHP Kohl Stewart is the top ranked hurler in the Perfect Game 2013 class rankings, checking in at sixth overall. Scouts are going to have sift through an entirely different set of problems this spring in order to slot Stewart properly for the June draft.
