Gamecocks remain the same

South Carolina's Chad Holbrook has never been so happy to be so busy.

Just a few months ago, the Gamecocks were in the midst of the 2012 baseball campaign, setting their sights squarely on yet another College World Series appearance. At that time, Ray Tanner was the head coach and Holbrook was in his fourth season as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Gamecocks.

Situations have changed dramatically for Tanner and Holbrook since then. Tanner filled the athletic director vacancy at South Carolina left by Eric Hyman, who made the move across the SEC to Texas A&M. Meanwhile, without any resistance, and rightfully so, the Gamecocks eased Holbrook from associate head coach to just head coach.

During his days as an assistant at South Carolina, and previously North Carolina, Holbrook attended practice, then either hit the recruiting trail, or made the short drive home to spend time with his family.

He still fills in the loose holes in his schedule with plenty of family. But instead of a vast number of recruiting trips, many of Holbrook's nights are filled with attending charity events and other local and celebrity occasions.
