The East Cobb Astros 15u team came into the final day of the 15u WWBA National Championship as the #1 overall seed in the field of 138 teams and that’s how they ended the day. They breezed through pool play with a record of 5-0 and only giving up one run and scoring an average of almost 10 runs per contest.  Wednesday night they run ruled the Dallas Patriots 9-1, followed up by a pair of run rules on Thursday, beating CBC O’s Navy 10-2 and Action Baseball Club White 15-2.

Friday proved to be tougher challenge for the Astros as they had to come from behind late to sneak past the East Cobb Longhorns who held a 3 run lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Astros came back scoring 5 runs in the last two innings including a game winning 2 RBI single off the bat of SS Jeremy Howell (2013 East Paulding HS, Dallas, GA).

The Dulin Dodgers went 4-1 during pool play, slipping up against the Georgia Academy TPX Dodgers. Once the playoffs started, they got hot beating Worcester Heat (6-4), LIDS Indiana Bulls (6-2), Carolina Reds (12-3), and the East Cobb Astros 14u (9-1).

The championship game ended up being a rematch of the 2010 14u National Championship game between the Dulin Dodgers and the Astros. In that contest, the Astros won 9-4 to win the rings. In this one, the Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on a Hagen Owenby single, scoring Jonathan Sherman. They tacked on another run in the 4th inning before the Astros got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 6th.  An error by the third baseman and two wild pitches resulted in three runs for the Astros and were followed by a bases loaded walk. That was too much for the Dodgers to overcome in the 7th as the Astros held on to take home the championship rings.

OF Eric Knox (2013 Effingham Co HS, Guyton, GA) of the Astros took home the MVP Trophy after a stellar week of baseball. He batted .565 in 9 games with a double, 6 triples, 13 RBIs, and 12 runs scored. He also threw 4 innings on the mound striking out 4 batters and only giving up 1 earned run.

RHP Chase Slone (2014 Kennesaw Mountain HS, Kennesaw, GA) took home the Most Valuable Pitcher award for the tournament. He picked up 2 wins for the Astros pitching 10 innings, striking out 7 batters and giving up one earned run.
