TOP-25 RIGHTHANDED PITCHERS

LAKELAND, Fla.--While a number of the assembled righties threw in the 90s, it’s the projectable pitchers who usually end up making the most noise. We tend to get caught up on the radar gun, but what a pitcher throws at age 17 on a weekend in August is hardly ever what he does on a regular basis when he’s 25.

A case in point is the 2001 ECPBS which I attended in Wilmington, North Carolina eight years ago. The talk of the event was a righthanded pitcher from rural Georgia named Friedel Pinkston. One guy (me) actually rated him the #1 prospect at the event ahead of #2 B.J. Upton. Pinkston had a lightning quick arm and he dealt plenty of low-90s fastballs, standing out amongst a field that lacked power arms.

Few scouts if any had Matt Cain or Zach Greinke ranked at the top of the pitching list. Cain threw 85-88 MPH while Greinke was 83-87 MPH. Both of them throw MUCH harder today and rank among the most do
