R.I.P. Coach Carter

Jim Arp

The Perfect Game Staff was saddened to hear about the passing of Coach Dennis Carter, who lost his battle with cancer. Perfect Game offers our condolences to Coach Carter’s family and to the entire Fort Bend Texans Baseball Organization.

I got to know Coach Carter several years ago when he called to talk about sending some of his players to our showcases. This led him to not only bringing players to our showcases, but teams to our tournaments. More importantly it led to a friendship with myself and the Perfect Game staff. It wasn’t long until he started working some of our showcase events and he was one of the better fungo hitters that we had.

After the first phone call you could tell what kind of man he was. It was obvious that he cared about the players that he coached. Not only did he care about his players, he cared about the game of baseball and teaching it the right way with respect.

I have always said that baseball is a great game and the one thing that makes it great is the people that are involved with it. There are friendships that are made in travel ball, high school and college. These friendship never go away, they last. I only knew Coach Carter for a few short years and only talked to him a few times a year, but he was a friend. A friend that I made through the game of baseball.

God called Coach Carter home to himself. I guess they needed a good coach in heaven.
