Cape Cod League Notes: July 3 | July 7

I promise you will not miss Missouri’s Bryce Montes de Oca when he steps on the mound. If you somehow miss his extra-large, broad-bodied 6-foot-8 frame, you’ll quickly take notice when his first fastball comes across at 95-plus mph and does so with relative ease.

One of several former Perfect Game All-Americans on the Cape this summer, Montes de Oca may not necessarily have as much prime-time exposure, as he missed the summer circuit his junior year of high school and most of his senior year, save for a couple of starts while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Fully recovered now, the Kansas native worked exclusively out of the Missouri bullpen this spring while battling some bouts of inconsistency in command. A starter on the Cape for the Falmouth Commodores, Montes de Oca lived in the zone throughout his most recent start, walking just one batter while showing the ability to battle back more often than not whenever he fell behind in the count. As mentioned in the opening paragraph his fastball is pretty electric living comfortably within the 93-96 mph range throughout his outing and looked as though he garnered the velocity while playing catch.
