26. Oregon State

Head coach: Pat Casey
Conference: Pac-12
2014 record: 45-14 (23-7 Pac-12)
2014 finish: Regionals

Synopsis: After four trips to Omaha in the last 10 seasons, perhaps no other program in the country faces a tougher rebuild in 2015 than the Beavers. Gone are mainstays Michael Conforto, Dylan Davis, Andy Peterson, Kavin Keyes, Jace Fry, Ben Wetzler, and Scott Schultz. Junior lefthander Max Engelbrekt is also out for the season with an injury. Junior righthander Andrew Moore will be counted on heavily as he pitches in the weekend rotation for the third straight year, and junior center fielder Jeff Hendrix is a freakish athlete whose power is emerging. The Beavers' roster is young but also very talented with exciting upside. Sophomores Logan Ice, Caleb Hamilton, and Trevor Morrison must step forward offensively and build on their strong freshman campaigns. Freshman K.J. Harrison could emerge as a middle-of-the-order bat and freshman lefthander Luke Heimlich graduated early from high school to enroll at OSU in January and he could end up in the weekend rotation.



27. Tennessee

Conference: Southeastern
2014 record: 31-23 (12-18 SEC)
2014 finish: Did not play in postseason

Synopsis: One of the nation’s deepest teams, Tennessee brings back a crew of some of the most dangerous hitters in the country in 2015, including a potential SEC Player of the Year candidate and possible first round draft choice, Christin Stewart. They will surround Stewart with table setter A.J. Simcox and a two-way threat in Andrew Lee, who should play a major role for the Vols both at the plate and on the mound. Lee is also slated to assume the closer’s role in 2015, opening a spot in the rotation for hard throwing and much talked about sophomore, Kyle Serrano. Serrano enters the spring as the Vols’ Sunday starter, following two arms with pedigree in Andy Cox and Hunter Martin, who will start Fridays and Saturdays respectively. The wildcard of the staff may be Drake Owenby, however. A southpaw capable of running it up to 94 mph with an above average curveball, Owenby is one of the best pure lefty arms in the conference and could be utilized in a variety of ways this spring. The player to watch on this roster remains Christin Stewart; he’s a game-changing type of talent capable of catapulting Tennessee up this list if he performs to his ability.



28. Alabama

Head coach: Mitch Gaspard
Conference: Southeastern
2014 record: 37-24 (15-14 SEC)
2014 finish: Regionals

Synopsis: A sleeper team of the highest order headed into this spring, the key word to consider with Alabama is depth. They have some major wildcards to factor in, like junior transfer Will Carter, who opened eyes by routinely topping at 95 mph with heavy sinking action during fall practice. Carter will follow senior Taylor Guilbeau and sophomore Geoffrey Bramblett in Head Coach Mitch Gaspard’s rotation, but the lineup is what may end up being the difference maker for the Crimson Tide. Led by Perfect Game Third Team All-American Mikey White at shortstop, who is coming off an outstanding Cape Cod League performance, Alabama has intriguing bats throughout their lineup, including junior center fielder Georgie Salem and exciting freshman Chandler Avant. Professional scouts continue to be intrigued by junior second baseman, Kyle Overstreet as well. If they receive strong contributions from Salem, Overstreet and Avant to go with what could be a potential All-Conference type spring from Mikey White, Alabama could boast one of the nation’s longest lineups.
