David Cooper is a solid 6'0/180 1B/LHP from Stockton, CA. He is a genuine top level college 2-way prospect. In fact, he is a draftable 2-way prospect. He showed upper 80s velocity in Tropicana Field, but we have seen him touching 91. He has an outstanding changeup and throws two quality breaking balls. He has excellent command of all his pitches. He has great mechanics, repeats his delivery to a T and his arm works smoothly and quick. However, we like his bat even better. He's one of, if not the top, left handed bat in the country. He has a short quick swing at the plate that should produce consistent high averages, something that hitters facing his 90 mph fastball and plus change up won’t have. He has a great low maintenance swing and the ball explodes off his bat. He's going to hit with power also. Think Mark Kotsay at the same age. David is a good athlete who runs fairly well and he's an outstanding defensive player. He will create a lot of early pick interest in next year's draft.

David is a strong, athletic 2005 first baseman / pitcher / outfielder from Stockton, California who has the look of a ball player. We like him best on the mound. His body has some room to add a little more weight and strength in the future. He has a solid delivery that is aggressive to the plate and shows that he wants to throw it hard. His arm is strong and quick with a 85-88mph fastball that he likes to locate low in the zone. He has a nice breaking ball at 70-72mph that has tight spin and late movement with some tilt. He shows command of both the heater and breaking ball. He will be one to watch closely. David is a good student, a very good hitter with an outstanding arm. Good 2-way guy in college! Lefties throwing in the upper 80s are big time college prospects. He can pitch at any college in America. He'll get some serious MLB interest as well. David is a good student.
