Jones will play all summer at 16 years old and his skills show it against older competition. But at 6-4, 210 with enormous strength and bat speed, his potential is as large as his frame. Watching him take batting practice with wood was both instructive and enjoyable. Jones natural swing right now is very line drive oriented, but he hits the ball so hard on occasion that the park can’t hold it. Probably the best thing he can do now at the plate with wood, aside from just getting more repetitions, is develop a quicker and shorter trigger that will enable him to get the bat head to the ball more quickly. He must be something to watch with aluminum in his hands; we wouldn’t want to be playing down at third base when he does. Jones’ mobility and throwing arm at first base are playable and will likely improve with maturity. He did show particularly good hands on throws in the dirt and this should be a strength for him in the future. Look for Jones to create lots of interest with MLB scouts. He's a definite higherst level DI bat and with serious power potential. Daryl is also a good student.

Jones was one of the top prospects in the Sunshine West showcase. He is a 6 foot 4 inch 210 pound First-baseman with a good lean yet muscular build. He showed the most powerful bat of the weekend. He hit the ball routinely to the warning track at all parts of the ball-park and one ball about 20 feet over the wall. He did this in BP by taking a rip at anything near the strike-zone, and he saw only a few strikes. In the games he started off his first at bat with an opposite field shot off the RCF fence for a triple, registering at 97 mph off his bat. He saw few fastballs or strikes the rest of the 1st game. He ran a respectable 7.12 for a slugging corner infielder and threw with 82 mph velocity across the diamond. His bat-speed is excellent and his eye is sharp. We have no questions about his power and plan to follow him very close over the next year. Good student.

Jones is a good outfielder who can hit. He showed nice actions defensively, had a playable outfield arm that projects to get stronger and he runs well. He has a plus body and good frame to grow into. He showed good bat-speed and his athleticism coupled with his good baseball actions make him very projectable. He laid down a nice bunt and ran a 4.1 from the left side.
