Darrien Acy-King is a 2005 OF from Balch Springs, TX. Acy-King is a very good athlete with above average present strength and some baseball skills. Aside from his obvious strength, the first thing that jumps out at you is Acy-King’s arm. He really has three different arms at three different positions. As an outfielder, Acy-King’s arm works as smoothly and loosely as you’ll ever want to see and his 91 mph outfield velocity speaks for itself. As a catcher, Acy-King’s arm stroke is much longer and more forced and although he can inch his pop times well below 2.00, it’s on pure 80 mph arm strength. Acy-King’s receiving and blocking skills are raw at this point, too. Acy-King’s arm strength just doesn’t translate as well to the mound, though. You can see the loose whipiness in his arm stroke, but his momentum and leverage never come together towards the plate and he tends to throw around the ball. His fastball was 81-84 mph and he threw a big looping 62 mph curveball. At what position does Acy-King wind up? We don’t know. He did swing the bat very well in Waco. He’s a straight up hitter who uses his hands well in his swing, especially in driving the ball to right field. He doesn’t have much loft in his swing right now, but has the strength to make adjustments down the road. Acy-King’s definitely a player for the next level, but he still has a ways to go before he defines himself as a player. The arm is special.

Acy-King is one of the most interesting players we saw in Waco. We have seen him before and still have not figured out where he will end up playing. He is a top player prospect as an outfielder, catcher and potentially a pitcher as well. At 5 foot 10 and 185 pounds he has a strong build that is getting leaner and taller since we last watched him play. He still appears to be very young in the face and body. He had the prettiest arm action from the outfield and registered 90 mph on the throw from right field. It is long and loose and works as well as it possibly can. He also shows some big potential as a catcher. He can receive easily and that arm, with a small adjustment shortening up produced 1.92 - 1.97 pop times that we have seen better, and 81 mph on the throw. He also has ability on the mound. In Waco he played so many innings at all positions and caught bullpens when he was not in the field, so the 80-84 mph he showed on the mound in the last game of the event was not indicative of his potential there. We have seen him throw 88 mph on the hill before and with his long fingers and plus life he already shows, there is unlimited potential in many areas. He showed that he can swing the wood and drove the ball in BP very hard and to all fields. Big 2005 follow !

05 with a great future. Big time prospect with a better than average outfield arm already. Also popped 1.85 from behind the plate. Quick bat that resulted in some very hard hit line drives, he can hit and projects to hit with outstanding power. Needs to improve the 60 time, but everything else is ready. Also pitched, but was in the low 80s. Shows his arm strength better as a position player. He's another must follow.
