Dane Derstine is a 2007 C with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Sarasota FL, who attends Riverview HS. He has a slender build with plenty of room to add strength. Derstine shows very good quickness defensively and solid arm strength. He threw 74 mph during catching drills and had a best pop time of 1.98. His game throws were very accurate and he's going to control the running game with his combination of arm strength and accuracy. Derstine is not only quick, he also can run , as his 7.12 60 time shows. Offensively, Derstine has a line drive swing and mostly hits the ball to the opposite field. His lack of present strength hurts his ability to drive the ball but Derstine does a good job of staying behind the ball, staying within himself and putting the ball in play. He has a chance to be a premium defensive player at a premium position and whatever he contributes offensively will be a plus in the future. Derstine is a solid student as well.

Dane Derstine is a 2007 catcher/outfielder from Sarasota, Florida, with a tall, lean body at 6'0", 160 pounds. He hits from a narrow upright stance and has good balance during the swing. He is a contact hitter with a line drive swing plane and decent bat speed. He uses the whole field and shows good gap to gap power potential. Behind the plate, he has good blocking skills from a nice solid base. He receives the ball with soft hands, and he has a smooth transfer with a quick release. He showed very good arm strength at 77 mph with accuracy and carry. He had a solid 2.06 pop time that will defeinitely improve as he matures. He is a good young catcher with lots of room to grow, and he could be a top catching prospect in 2007. Dane is a good student.
