Joey Zarella is a 2009 LHP/1B that attends Langley HS and resides in Langley, VA with a 6'0", 160 lb. frame. Joey has a lean athletic build with some room to fill out. On the mound Joey throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean long loose arm action. Joey is able to work the corners well and shows the making of a nice straight change up. He makes hitters put the ball in play and looks to have good upside on the mound. Joey has a tendency to open up a little early and will need to work on finishing center to the plate. He looks as if he chokes the ball some and he could throw harder if he eased up his grip. At the plate Joey is able to turn on the ball well, but his swing has some bat wrap and gets a little long at times. He will need to work on getting his bat in a ready position earlier and keep his hands inside the ball. At first base Joey showed very good actions. He is athletic around the bag and has nice release and good hands. Joey is a kid that could develop into a solid mid to high-level college prospect.
