Curtis Casali is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from New Canaan HS, residing in New Canaan, NJ. Casali has a long, strong, well-proportioned build on a plus 6'3" 208 lb. frame that is not only athletic, but also has room to fill out. Casali has the body and the look of the budding professional catcher that he is. He is one of the nation's top '07 high school catchers and performed well in Fayetteville. Casali was ranked #55 among PG National Top 100 position players but because of his position and his hitting/defensive abilities, he could rate even higher come next June. Casali is a good hitting prospect, regardless of the position plays. He would be valued if he were a corner outfielder or corner infielder. He makes a lot of barrel contact and has good timing with his swing. His has good hands and a quiet approach, keeping it fairly simple. His barrel can be long through the zone, which when he is really on with his timing makes him a threat to leave the yard on those days. Casali does have good present day power (particularly to the pull side) and should continue to develop even more as he gets older. Catchers that are capable of hitting in a run producing spot in the order are quite valuable commodities, and Casali is one such player. Behind the plate he flashes plus catch/throw skills and there is little doubt that he is going to be an above average collegiate or professional catch/throw prospect. His arm is strong and accurate. Even better is his exchance from glove to hand, which is a plus ability for Casali. His footwork is excellent and his hands are quick. What may be the most impressive thing about Casali as a thrower is that even with those plus attributes, he does not go to fast. His throwing motion is efficient and fluid. He ran 4.50 home/1st with a 7.44 60 yard time. Casali is one of the top tier D1 prospects and will also get upper round consideration next June, particularly if he shows his power stroke next spring.

Casali is a very athletic 6-3, 190 lb junior catcher from Connecticut with a solid frame that projects well to add strength in the future. He was one of the top prospects at the Atlantic Coast Showcase and has established himself this summer as one of the better young 2007 catchers in the country. Casali has all the tools and makeup to be a top level defensive catcher. He receives the ball quietly and confidently and shifts and moves quickly. His arm strength was 77 mph during drills with a best pop time of 1.94 and he then threw a 1.93 during the games. Offensively, Casali's swing is all about his hands. He has a very short swing and uses his hands to get the bat head straight to the ball. He went 7-8 during the showcase games and hit everything on the screws. He doesn't have much lower half involvement in his swing now or ideal extention out front, but these are things that he can grow into to develop his power further. In addition, Casali plays hard on has obvious fun when he's playing the game. This young man has a great baseball future ahead of him and we look forward to seeing him frequently over the next 2 years and beyond that.

Curtis Casali is a 2007 catcher from New Canaan, CT with a thick strong build at 6-3, 192 lbs. He is an excellent defensive catcher and advanced beyond his years. Casali has very good arm strength with a best pop time of 1.91. He moves smoothly and easily behind the plate and receives top velocity pitcher with no problems. Casali hit out of a wide bent knee stance with a limited stride that doesn't do his leverage any favors. We saw him later in the summer and he'd made some adjustments to get taller in the box with great results. Casali has good strength in his hands and good bat speed that could translate into big time power down the road with the right approach. His swing right now is more line drive/contact oriented and Casali shows the ability to manipulate the bat head and make solid contact. He is one of the top catching prospects in the country in the 2007 class and has a very high ceiling if his offense continues to develop. His defensive skills will play very high right now. Excellent national level follow.

Curtis Casali is a 2007 catcher from New Canaan, Connecticut, with a 6'3", 190 lb. frame. Casali was named to Top Prospect Team, and was one of the few 2007 players invited to the National Showcase. Defensively he has a solid arm with plus accuracy and his throws are on a line. He threw out several runners during the showcase games with pop times under 2.00. Casali has a quick exchange and release, and his feet work great. His quick feet also help him blocking balls to both sides, and he centers the ball on his chest well. As good as he is defensively, his bat will separate him from many other catchers. Casali hits from a crouched stance with a wide base and takes little to no stride. He has a very quick bat and makes consistently hard contact to all fields with a line drive swing. Casali is also a patient hitter with a good knowledge of the strike zone and waits for his pitch, then drives it showing present raw power. He will be a complete catcher at the next level and is a must follow. He is also a good student.
