Cody Bentley is a 2008 RHP/MIF with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Pound VA, who attends JJ Kelly HS. He has a athletic frame with projectable strength. Bentley is a very good all around athlete who has potential as a position prospect as well. On the mound, Bentley has a quick delivery and a short, compact arm action. His fastball showed lots of velocity difference and ranged from 81 to 87 mph with some running action. He could have been changing grips or moving the ball around intentionally. His curveball was 73 mph with a sweeping 10/4 type of break and he mixed in a few change ups. Bentley had good command of his pitches and an idea what he was doing. As a position player, Bentley worked out as both a middle infielder and outfielder and showed very good arm strength at both positions. He has a live body and athletic quickness and ran the 60 in 6.91. He isn't especially fluid at either position but has the raw tools to improve with work and repetitions. Offensively, Bentley shows good raw bat speed from an upright stance with a long, aggressive swing. He has some power potential and hits the ball to all fields. Overall, Bentley looks like a very good athlete who can do a lot of things on the baseball field well and hasn't settled down to one area yet. He's an interesting talent for a college coaching staff to mold. Bentley is a very good student off the field.

Cody Bentley is a 2008 RHP/SS from JJ Kelly HS in Pound, VA with a 6'0", 175 lb. frame. Cody has a lean athletic build and put up a very impressive workout during the showcase. He threw 88 from the outfield while running a 6.94 60-yard dash at the event. Cody throws from a high 3/4 release on the mound with a short arm circle. He is a strong kid who gets a good downhill plane on the mound, but is somewhat of a max effort pitcher at this point. Cody's off-speed pitches are still developing at this point, but he has enough ability on the mound where they will develop soon. He has a tendency to get a little to short in his arm circle and could add velocity with more extension in the back. At the plate Cody showed solid bat-speed but had a tendency to get out on his front foot too much. He will see a lot of improvement when he gets his weight on the back side and explodes from there. Defensively Cody has highest level outfield tools. His arm is very strong with great carry and he has very good range in the outfield. He has clean IF actions, but it looks like the outfield is his best position. Cody was one of the top overall athletes at the showcase and will be a highest-level college prospect with some draft attention during his senior year.
