Clayton Ehlert is a 2006 right handed pitcher/outfielder from Orange, TX with an athletic build at 6-0, 180 lbs. He has two-way prospect tools and has actually played more third base than outfield and projects there well as a position player. As a pitcher, Ehlert has a compact delivery with a short, quick arm arch in back. His fastball is consistent in the 87-89 mph range. His best pitch in Atlanta was a 74 mph change up that was just disappearing at the plate; it was a high level plus pitch at times. Ehlert's curveball has good velocity and depth to it at 73 mph. He throws strikes with all three pitches and has consistently performed well on the mound against some of the top teams in the country in the past. Ehlert is a 6.83 runner who obviously shows arm strength on defense. He has a spread no stride approach at the plate and uses his hands to hit. He generates good bat speed and shows pull power while making very consistent contact. Ehlert is a good student who has signed to go to Texas A&M, one of the best schools in the country historically at developing two-way talents.

Clayton Ehlert is a 2006 P/OF from Orange, Texas. Ehlert was named the top prospect at the Waco Underclass Showcase, although whether he was a better position prospect or pitching prospect is still an open question. Ehlert profiles better as a position player, with a mature 6'0", 180 lb. frame and a very good combination of speed and arm strength. Ehlert didn’t run the 60 in Waco because of a minor leg muscle strain, but is a sub 7.0 runner. His most impressive position tool is his bat speed and offensive potential. Ehlert hits from a balanced stance with high hand position and a good load. He takes a full aggressive swing, and showed raw power in both batting practice and in games with long home runs to left field. Ehlert’s approach is to try to lift the ball and drive it hard. As a pitcher, Ehlert was 86-88 mph in Waco, and we’ve seen him up to 91 mph in the past. He maintains his velocity well, and showed good command down in the strike zone. Ehlert’s curveball was 71 mph with tight late break, and he also had a 72 mph change up that had some quality to it.
