Brandon Van Dam is a 2008 1B/P with a 6'6'', 215 lb. frame from Lancaster, CA who attends Quartz Hill HS. He has an extra long and strong build and could be scary strong if he works at it. Van Dam is a 2-way prospect depending on the level he ends up at. Offensively, he has a long, lofted swing tha depends on timing and rhythm to make contact. He hits from a very wide stance with a rock back load and can really hit the ball a long way against mediocre stuff that he can get extended to. He has a hitter's approach and isn't just driving the ball by accident, but high velo fastballs and off speed stuff outside will be a challenge. On the mound, Van Dam thows 88-90 mph from a long arm stroke with mimimal effort, He has good feel for his change up but little for his curveball at this point. Given that he has much more strength in his frame, he could throw very hard in the future.

Brandon Van Dam is a 2008 1B/P with a 6'6'', 215 lb. frame from Lancaster, CA, who attends Quartz Hill HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team. Van Dam has an extra large frame with long limbs and present strength in his body. He is a very projectable two-way player. Defensively he moves well around the first base bag, and has the ability to pick balls in the dirt. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who has as much raw power as any player in the country. Van Dam is an aggressive hitter with bat speed through the hitting zone. He gets leverage at the point of contact and can drive the ball well out of the park. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed. Van Dam throws with a good down hill plane, and gets life on his fastball that tops out at 88 mph. He gets arm side run on his fastball, and he projects to throw harder. Van Dam struck out 8 in 4 innings of work. Two-way prospect with very good upside.

Brandon Van Dam is a 2008 RHP/1B with a 6'6'', 220 lb. frame from Lancaster CA, who attends Quartz Hill HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event and may have as much upside as any '08 grad in Southern California. Van Dam has a long, strong, broad and projectable body, even at 220 pounds. He looks like a developing young power pitcher that will be a durable hard thrower. Van Dam has a long, easy arm action and a good delivery that utilizes his lower body well, resulting in good frontside extension. Van Dam topped at 88 mph (85-88 mph) but there is more in there than that and it is a reasonable expectation that he will frequently go 90+ this summer. He can pitch to both sides of the plate with command and keep the ball down. Van Dam's breaking ball is a slurvy curveball (72-73 mph) that will need to tighten up. He looks like he could be a good candidate to develop a split finger fastball. Offensively Van Dam is also a prospect, though not at the same level. He has legitimate plus power potential, with strong hands and pretty good timing. Van Dam approaches hitting like a power hitter and employs an easy swing. Around the bag he showed some feel and certainly looked capable of being a solid defensive player. Look for him to really burst on the scene this summer.
