Christopher Baker is 6'2", 175 lb. left handed outfielder from Chesapeake, Virginia. As a 2007 sophomore with very good present muscle tone and a projectable frame, Baker has a chance to be a big and strong athlete when he matures. We gave Baker our top hitting grades of the SE Underclass Showcase. He has a very polished approach, with a good coil, a short path to the ball, and very good bat speed that’s college level right now with wood. Baker doesn’t have ideal extension to his swing, but he swings hard and the ball jumps on contact. Baker is a 7.37/4.40 runner who showed very good arm strength from the outfield, reaching 86 mph in velocity. Baker’s defensive instincts were on the raw side, and he’ll have to improve his routes and approach to fly balls. Baker also pitched a few innings and we were anticipating big things based on his athletic ability and arm strength, but it didn’t translate to the mound, at least not this time. Baker pitched mostly at 76, although he touched 82 once, with a restricted arm stroke. Top Hitting Prospect!
