Shane Blair is a 2008 C/IF with a 5'10'', 190 lb. frame from Rock Falls, IL who attends Rock Falls HS. He has a thick, strong build, especially in the lower half. Blair is a polished defensive catcher with compact actions and good footwork. He has plenty of arm strength at 75 mph in drills, although he has a hand waggle in the back that slows down his release. He made good throws in the games. Blair is an aggressive hitter who hits out of a balanced, no stride approach and does a good job staying short and quick to the ball. He made very good contact in the games and showed pull power with some loft in his swing. His strength gives him some bat speed and makes him a threat at the plate. Blair is a solid all around player who should be a good catcher at the college level. He is also an excellent student.

Shane Blair is a 2008 C/IF with a 5'10'', 185 lb. frame from Rock Falls IL, who attends Rock Falls HS. He has a stocky, firm body with good present strength. Blair has polished catching skills and good tools for the position. He sets up comfortably behind the plate with good balance and has quick feet that enable him to shift quickly, especially to his right. His blocking mechanics are fundamentally sounded. He receives the ball with soft hands and doesn't struggle with velocity. We've seen Blair catch frequently in games and he's a very good catch and throw receiver. Offensively, Blair hits out of a balanced, tall stance with a bit of knee flex. He loads his hands well and attacks the inside pitch with authority. Blair pull some balls hard and has good bat speed. He has a line drive swing plane. Blair was very selective in what he swung at but when he swung, he took the bat to the ball hard to ball. Blair will have to watch his conditioning; he's got bigger since the last time we saw him, but his tools keep improving, too. He is an excellent student off the field.

Shane Blair is a 2008 C with a 5'10'', 175 lb. frame from Rock Falls, IL, who attends Rock Falls High School. Shane was one of the youngest players at the event, but in no way was he overmatched. He has very sure hands behind the plate and looked comfortable. That is probably because he has caught for his older brother, Seth, who is one of the best '07 pitchers in the Midwest, if not the entire country. Shane receives with soft hands and frames pitches well. He also has quick feet that allow him to block balls easily. Shane has solid arm strength that will continue to improve, and he should stop opposing team's from running. He wasn't overmatched at the plate either. He has a very balanced swing even though he swings hard and aggressively. He keeps his weight back well and show very good bat speed through the hitting zone. Shane is a line drive hitter who can make adjustments with his hands and use the whole field. Shane is an all-around player that is a must follow for the 2008 class. He is also a very good student.
