Calvin Drummond is a 2008 RHP with a 6'2'', 160 lb. frame from Huntington Beach, CA who attends Huntington Beach HS. He has a skinny, lean build that hasn't added much strength yet. Drummond has a high 3/4's to overhand release point from a short and compact arm action. He has some effort on release, including a moderate head jerk, but he gets good extension out front and seems to have no trouble throwing strikes. Drummond's fastball was consistently 83-85 mph and was sneaky fast in the strike zone with some running action down in the strike zone. He threw a 76 mph slider that had good spin and some tilt to it and would sometimes take a bit off his slider and throw it with a slower, curveball type of break.. He didn't show a change up. Drummond showed an idea of how to pitch and worked down in the zone consistently with some feel. His velocity should pick up some as he gains some strength. Drummond is also a good student.

Calvin Drummond is a 2008 RHP/3B from Huntington Beach HS, residing in Huntington Beach, CA, with a 6'1" 155 lb. frame. Drummond was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. He has a long, lanky body type, suggesting some physical projection as a pitcher. On the mound Drummond displayed solid mechanics. He pitched from a classic 3/4 slot and has a fluid delivery. His arm arc is good and clean and his 83-84 FB should naturally gain velocity with physical maturation, provided he also maintains his flexibility. Of particular note was his slider, which is a very promising pitch for him. The velocity was 76 mph and as his FB climbs, expect to see that slider move toward the 79-82 mph range. Drummond also showed a usable change-up with 11 mph differential off his FB. At the plate, Drummond, a right handed hitter, stayed inside the ball fairly well. He hit mainly with hands and had a very slight weight shift. He has decent bat speed and some length in his swing. Because he showed that he can get the barrel to the ball in BP, it stands to reason that strength gains will enhance his offensive abilities. both as a pitchers and as a hitter, Drummond will benefit from physical maturation. As a sophomore he is a quality D1 follow prospect on the mound. He has a good arm that works cleanly and a body that still has a long way to go before he is filled out. Expect steady velocity increases in the next couple of summers. The more mound time he gets, the quicker Drummond is going to develop.
