2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Matthew Woods is a 2006 1B/3B/OF with a 5'11'', 215 lb. frame from West Des Moines IA, who attends Dowling HS. He has a thick, barrel chested upper body but has some life and quickness to his lower half. Woods ran the 60 in 7.59 and was 4.71 to first base. He showed nice defensive actions at first base, with quick feet and soft hands and made some nice plays during the games. At the plate, Woods hits from a pre-load, no stride approach with an upper cut/pull swing. He has some strength in his swing and is looking to lift it. He has some bat speed and the ball jumps some on contact. Woods is a hustling player who likes to play. He is also a good student.
