Sam Formanek is a 6' 130 pound 2007 right handed pitcher from Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, New York. He has a very slender build with lots fo room to fill out. Same pitches from a 3/4 arm slot and uses a drop and drive delivery. He has long loose arms and has good lively arm action. His fastball has some late cut action on it at 78 mph. Formanek likes to throw his fastball to both sides of the plate and shows the ability to get his fastball in on the hands of a left handed hitter which is very rare for a young pitcher. He also showed the ability to turn over his fastball to get some run on it. He did this when he wanted to go inside to right handed hitters. He throws his curveball at 73 mph with good depth. He liked to throw his curveball down in the zone when he was ahead in the count. He mainly used his curveball for a strike out pitch. Sam is a good student as well with a 3.25 gpa.
