Karl Maas is a 2006 RHP from West HS, residing in Tracy, CA, with a 6'4", 230 lb. frame. He has a strong, power pitcher type build. Maas pitches from a high 3/4 slot. He separates his hands to the goal post position, doing a nice job of getting his arm up and clear of his body. Maas has good arm speed and good direction down the slope. As he masters the ability to separate on time over the rubber all of his stuff is going to take a big leap. His fastball (80-82) has some sink on the arm side and at times some cut action on the opposite arm side. His fastball is generally not straight and has some heaviness to it in the hitting zone. He does a nice job of competing to the zone with his fastball. Mass has a breaking ball (68-71) with two plane slurve-type shape and decent rotation. He also showed a change-up though did not use it much. Mass throws strikes, particularly with the fastball, and he has a some pitchabilty. There is defintely the potential for him to develop into a power sinker/slider type pitcher. Look for him to make a jump in the spring and get some strong follow attention.
