Brian Carr is a 2008 left handed pitcher/left hand hitting first baseman from Sandra Day O'Connor HS, residing in Peoria, AZ. He has a 6'1" 175 lb. frame and a lean, athletic, lively body that will keep getting stronger and remain athletic. Carr's ability is good enough to have gotten him named to a top prospect at this event. Not doing so was an oversight. He is one of the more talented L/L two-way players in the '08 class in the West and will be a highly recruited player at the D1 level. On the mound Carr has a long arm that works quickly, easily, and quite well. He creates leverage in his arm stroke and will keep gaining velocity for years to come. He is a short strider, allowing him to get on top of the ball easily. His delivery is easy and clean and he is an athlete on the mound. Carr's fastball topped at 85 mph and there is plenty more velocity to come. He showed control to both sides of the plate and good arm side run. His fastball is quite lively and fun to project out. Carr also has a good curveball, with plus depth and snappy action. It is a well above average pitch now and has a chance to be a plus pitch in the future. He also showed a decent change-up. Offensively Carr is a talented hitter. He has lively hands and a whippy, lively swing. He maintains balance throughout his swing and hits with good rhythm. He sprayed the ball to all fields and showed power to the pullside and it came pretty easily. Carr is a projectable impact bat. Defensively he showed off an accurate, quick arm. The ball jumped out of his hand easily. He sets up to the ball well. His athleticism and body type look more suited to the outfield than 1st base. In any case, he is a very good D1 prospect and should continue to develop into a pro prospect by the spring of '08. His all-around skill set and L/L profile is very attractive.

Brian Carr is a 2008 OF/P/1B with a 6'1'', 170 lb. frame from Peoria, AZ, who attends Sandra Day O'Connor HS. Carr is a lean and wiry player with speed and quickness. He ran a 7.06 sixty and showed even better game speed. Defensively he has an easy arm action from the outfield with solid arm strength, and he moves to the ball well. Carr also plays first base with nice footwork with soft hands. He made a nice leaping catch over the 1B fence in foul territory in game action. At the plate he has a quick bat from a high hand set. Carr attacks pitches and the ball explodes off his bat with a loud pop. Once he gets on the bases he has good instincts with great speed, and beat out two routine ground balls to second base. On the mound he throws from an over the top arm slot with a clean arm action and good arm speed. His fastball topped out at 82 mph while working in the 79-82 mph range. Carr also throws a 70 mph curveball with 1 to 7 break and biting action. He throws strikes and hits his spots. He did not allow an earned run in 2 IP with only 1 hit. He is a fun player to watch and is a good student as well.
