Nate Smith is a 2007 OF with a 6'0'', 195 lb. frame from Brampton ON, who attends Cardinal Leger SS. He has a strong, physical build and nice athletic actions. Smith ran the 60 in 6.84 and uses his speed very well on the field. He's a very good defensive outfielder who gets quick jumps on fly balls and pursues balls hard in the gaps. His throwing arm is solid. We saw him in right field but he could probably handle all three outfield positions. Smith has the same type of aggressiveness and speed on the bases and will take an extra base if you give him the slightest opportunity. Smith hits from a spread stance with a rotational swing with some lift out front. He has good bat speed and the ball jumps at contact. Smith tended to cut himself off out front and hit around balls. We've seen him better with the bat. Smith is a good athlete with a very good approach on the field and should be a nice player at the next level. If his bat develops he could be a big surprise.

Nathaniel Smith is a 6-0, 195 lb junior outfielder from Canada with very good overall strength. He was also one of the top performance players during the showcase games. Smith got everyone's attention right away by running a 6.92 in the 60 and throwing an impressive 85 mph from the outfield. He showed very good outfield instincts and actions in all areas. There was one play where a cutoff man was late getting in position on a throw, not unusual in a showcase game, and Smith was obviously a bit upset by it because it allowed a runner to advance. He knew what he was doing. Offensively, Smith is a very aggressive player. His swing mechanics are a bit raw but he generates very good bat speed while attacking pitches in all parts of the strike zone. He has a level, line drive swing and will hit the ball to all fields. Smith had 5 hits in the 2 showcase games and stole 6 bases once he got on. He was going to run until someone threw him out and no one could. We loved the way that he played the game hard and aggressively. Overall, Smith is a very good athlete with solid developing baseball skills, plus an attitude that takes no prisoners. He's a very strong follow!
