2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Matthew Vazquez is a 2006 3B/IF/OF with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Lake Worth, Florida, who attends John I Leonard High School. He has a good body with present strength, yet still projectable. Defensively he has solid actions at the hot corner. He gets to the side and fields the ball with his hands. Vazquez has solid arm strength and accuracy on his throws across the diamond. At the plate he shows explosive bat speed with raw power from a slightly closed stance. He is a very aggressive hitter who gets great leverage in his swing at the point of contact. Vazquez hit some bullets during the showcase games, and hit the ball hard in batting practice as well. He has very good upside at the plate.
