2005 Spring Top Prospect
Huotari is a junior 5-10 right handed pitcher/infielder from Wisconsin with a wiry, tightly wound body. We understand that he is a very successful wrestler during the winter season. Huotari has a short, flat arm action and is quick to the plate in his delivery. His fastball was 79-81 mph and he threw a short, quick 68 mph curveball. Huotari’s best pitch, although he didn’t use it as much as he could have, was a 71 mph change up that he had nice feel for. We’ve seen Huotari pitch in the past and know that he’s a tough competitor who throws strikes and likes to win. He is also a solid middle infielder who shows the same type of scrappy determination as a player as he does a player. Huotari has good arm strength from shortstop at 81 mph and has the first step quickness to get to plenty of balls. He’s a 7.25 runner. At the plate, Huotari hits with high hands in an open stance and looks to pull the ball. Better patience on off speed pitches would help him overall as a hitter. He's an interesting player who needs to be followed.
