Jonathon Taylor is a 2008 OF with a 5'9'', 180 lb. frame from Acworth, GA who attends North Cobb HS. He has a short, compact build with good present strength. Taylor is the consumate leadoff hitter; a Juan Pierre type of player with a better idea of the strike zone than Pierre has ever had. He has an outstanding feel for what his skills and strengths are. Taylor has a simple approach at the plate and is looking for strikes and looking to slap and move the ball around the field and put pressure on the defense. Taylor ran the 60 in 6.53, which is very good but not exceptional, but was 3.98/4.01 down to first base. He has the same type of acceleration in centerfield and on the bases. Taylor gets very good jumps in centerfield and has great range. His arm strength is below average but he knows it and consistently hits the cutoff man. On his East Cobb Astros team with Xavier Avery and Ray Anderson, two faster players (!) with him in the outfield, Taylor plays centerfield because of his instincts and skills. It's easy to see Taylor having a Juan Pierre type of career given his skills and desire to play.

Jonathon Taylor is a 2008 OF with a 5'9'', 170 lb. frame from Acworth GA, who attends North Cobb HS. He has a short, strong build and it looks like he's grown taller in the last 4-6 months. Taylor was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Taylor is a speed player who understands his skills and tools and has a impact on games both offensively and defensively. He has a quick first step and accelerates immediately. He has very good range in centerfield and can run balls down in the gap and make plays off his feet. His arm strength is playable. Offensively, Taylor is the consumate leadoff hitter and always seems to be on base by walk or hit or error. It's a standing joke on the PG staff "Guess what, Taylor's out at second base!" He has good bat speed and a short, slashing swing that maximizes contact. Taylor will surprise you every once in a while and drive a ball hard. His offensive approach resembles a young Kenny Lofton, although he doesn't quite have Lofton's pure speed. It will be interesting to see him play more now that he's got taller and stronger. Taylor should be a high performer at the major college level.

Taylor is a young player with lively actions and good speed and quickness. Defensively he has solid arm strength from the outfield with accuracy and online throws. Taylor has center field type tools with speed, instincts, and shows great range with good reads off the bat. At the plate he has quick hands from the left side. He stays short and compact with his swing using the entire field and boosting is average. Taylor makes adjustments during and at bat, and shows good patience and strike zone awareness that will help is on base skills. Taylor is a line drive contact type hitter that will consistently put the ball in play and make things happen. Good upside.
