Justin Mateo is a 2017 MIF with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Queens, NY who attends Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School. Medium, athletic frame with long limbs and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, smooth athletic actions moving towards the ball laterally, soft hands play nicely at the ball, gets behind the ball and plays through it nicely with a sound first step, shows comfort in throwing from multiple arm slots and can make the play charging in too. Righthanded hitter, begins with a square stance and even base in the box. Uses a leg lift trigger for timing, full swing path coming through the zone and gets the barrel to the ball well, contact approach, shows rhythm to mechanics, able to generate occasional lift out front and shows carry off the barrel when timed up. Good student.
