Billy Okvist is a 2007 OF/P with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from Kennesaw GA, who attends Kell HS. He has a medium build with good tone and some projection. Okvist showed very good defensive tools in the outfield. He has top level arm strength and carry with 86 mph readings in outfield drills and the same type of arm under game conditions. He gets good jumps on balls and pursues them aggressively. He's a 7.43 runner but plays faster. Offensively, Okvist hits from a no load approach with little help from his lower half. He has bat speed when he can turn on the ball and pull it but he'll have to make adjustments to have power to all fields. Okvist's bat stays on plne for a long time and he has a good hitting base to build from. Okvist also pitched a bit and showed a long, loose arm action and very good command of all his pitches. His fastball topped out at 82 mph but he threw easily and it looked like there was more velocity in there. He threw two breaking balls, a curveball at 65 mph and a slider at 72 mph. Both had good spin. Okvist looks like he could have some potential as a hitter as well. He is an outstanding student.
